Had a great time at Holsopple Brewing when they hosted genre film club in the fall. It was raining when we went so we didn't get to sit outside but looks like they have ample space out there. A very comfortable, unpretentious venue with great draft beers. More of a neighborhood vibe but certainly welcoming for anybody. You can sit indoors -- either at the bar counter or at one of several tables -- or outdoors -- at one of many plastic tables and chairs under a large tent they keep erected just outside the building. There's a pool table and ping pong table you can pay to play on, and a weekly karaoke event if you want stuff to do while you drink. The bartender was very knowledgeable about their craft options and happy to talk about them to help you pick your favorite. You can even get a little sampler glass to help you decide. Overall a very nice place to grab a drink or two if you're in the Lyndon area or even just looking for a bar with an easy, casual vibe. read more

Came to support a fundraiser for one of the local nonprofits. Sat outside under the bid 'ol tents. We all had the IPA. Wasn't super strong. It was certainly refreshing since it was so hot out! Holsopple is going to be a preferred spot to relax, especially when I'm craving beer and sushi. While no food is served here they do allow you to bring it in or have it delivered. Two suggestions: ToGo Sushi or Chefs Cut Pizza. They offer a lot of outside seating covered by tents, which helps with rainy weather. Indoor seating is available but more limited. There's a small segment of the building you could host a small gathering, with advance reservations. Beer is made local there. Available menu will change. Growlers and Crowler made available. I'm a fan of several of their beers and cider is offered. Kid and Dog friendly spot. During summer/fall they often host music or a small art fair event. We really like this brewery! We've been taking some dance lessons next door and this place gives us the ultimate convenience before and it after our classes. And the pizza place two door down? Forget about it. They have a wall full of options, so even weird non-beer lovers like me can always find something that suits our fancy. My husband loves trying all the different beers. There's indoor and outdoor space, so no matter the weather you will feel comfortable. Overall this is a really nice place that we frequent maybe at odd hours, but we still frequent! Not only was there a craft brewery about a mile from where I lived, but (as it turns out) an absolutely STELLAR craft brewery! Hidden away behind a Sushi place, a cremation service, a pet groomer, and next to a dance studio, Holsoppe isn't the kind of play you'll find by accident. I'm OK with that, though, because it means it can still be kept a secret. :) Holsopple makes some amazing ales and lagers. I was lucky enough to get two bottles of their first bottled beer (Happily Ebony After). All their brews are done on site by people who have a love and a care for the craft that shows in all their brews. With twelve taps there is always something new...even a cider that I really liked, and I'm NOT a cider drinker. The staff is always busy and well informed. Ask any of them about any of their brews and they'll know the answer because they believe in what they sell. They excel at suggesting something you might like based on the types of beers you like and since it's brewed there, it's always fresh. There are snacks and merchandise for purchase from growlers to pint glasses to t-shirts to stickers. If you're feeling competitive there are video games to play and a few board games on hand. Holsopple recently expanded their seating area, allowing for more elbow room and patrons. I don't know what the name means (or even how to spell it correctly the first time), but the result was an amazing selection of excellent beers! If you visit, you'll see that it is one long room. A tight bar with a very helpful and friendly bartender welcomes you in while the rest of the room stretches back. There was plenty of seating and quite a few board games and darts were available to pass the time with friends. Or enemies. I don't know how you do things. I was greatly impressed by the variety of beers that they brew! Seriously, there were so many interesting combinations of flavors and new takes on traditional ales that I wanted to try that I have to make my way back! . It's small and welcoming. Growlers are available if you become a regular and pints are around $5-6. I don't make my way to Lyndon often, but I would make a point to stop here. read more

I'm a big fan of Holsopple Brewing. They have a limited scope of things they do well and execute those with excellence. Examples - Rotating assortment of brewed beers? Check. Holsopple consistently has a wide span of brews from lagers to pale ales to Belgians and porters and bourbon barrel aged goodness. I love coming in to see what's new and can always find a palate satisfying option. I'm often surprised and pleased with the creativity that I see on the board. Food? Nope, they're not in that business. Not unless you count the popcorn and trail mix behind the counter. But they're super chill with YOU bringing in food, I've often walked across the parking lot to To Go Sushi or brought in snacks. We brought in a do-it-yourself meat & cheese plate yesterday and felt mighty fancy, not even a second glance from my bartender friends. Local hangout vibe? Super check. After a dance lesson next door yesterday I brought my preschool aged daughter in with us for a sit afterward. The barkeep hooked her up with some popcorn, asked what she might want to see on TV since there was only one football game on at the time and screens to spare (she - and a surprising number of other patrons - watched Brave btw) and there are games and a few cute toys in a corner cubby that helped her feel at home. While mom got her Milkshake IPA on - we all won yesterday. I've always been greeted by friendly faces at the bar, many of them familiar, and enough space to spread out and lounge a bit. I've been involved in Tetris tournaments on their arcade/old game system mod. It's not unusual to see the occasional work-looking meeting here or someone studying. The music is good. You do you and stay awhile at Holsopple. So yeah, what is there not to like? Don't expect a huge brewery, at least right now these guys seem to be small on purpose focusing on high quality brewing. They are centrally located in the Lyndon area and it's easy to stop in while on your way to or from other errands. Easily a fan and love the local color they bring to the area. read more

A brewery...in Lyndon??? Who would've ever thought?! I like Lyndon. It is my neighborhood. But we don't always get nice things. Now, I am glad to have Holsopple within literal walking distance from my doorstep. Out of all of the breweries in Louisville, this one is one of the smaller ones. They don't have as much to choose from, but they do have a good variety and some interesting choices. Plus, they also sell their own canned beer! The prices are dirt cheap, too. You can do a sample size (kinda like an XL shot glass) for $2, and a 12 oz pour for $4!! They have bigger sizes you can do as well. I tried the Holsapple Cider, which is a great one for the fruity and sweet lovers. Holsopple also makes for a great hangout spot. The backroom is filled with board games, Jenga, darts, and a video game system that has like, a gazillion games on it. Another brewery you need to cross off your Louisville bucket list! read more

Having been here a few times, finally getting around to reviewing this place. Located in St. Matthews on Catherine Lane adjacent to a dance studio sits Holsopple. The inside is quite spacious with a few tables for seating. There is no food here but they do have some bar snacks which consists of chips amongst other things. This place is also dog friendly like most other breweries here in Louisville. My favorite beer here is the rotating Milkshake IPA and Paulas Pilsner. It's not often I come to St. Matthews but when I'm in the area Holsopple is a must stop. read more

It's always delicious. Never too crowded, always a place to enjoy your food and drink.

Generally speaking, Louisville's East End neighborhoods are lopsided in favor of chains versus small businesses. Lyndon has a surprising amount of mom-and-pop character, however, and Holsopple is one of the most well-known examples of this. Their beer is uncommon on taps across the city, so you'll probably have to go straight to the source to sample their work. And it's a nice detour! I'll get the negatives out of the way first. The taproom is nondescript and just feels somewhat odd to visit (although the outdoors section has received some charming upgrades). The rotating taplist artwork is pretty delightful, but the interior is as spartan as it gets otherwise. Holsopple is also rather pricey compared to the competition, especially with their to-go cans. But let's not lose sight of the most important question: is the beer good? Fortunately, it is quite good indeed. As far as I can tell, the Obscured Northeast IPA has been around since Holsopple's inception, and it's the clear standout in my eyes. NEIPAs can run the risk of being abrasively sweet, but Obscured's fruit flavors are expertly tempered and the texture has a little heft to it, sort of like an oat IPA. Long story short, it's an uncommonly smooth NEIPA that feels like a real treat and occupies a valuable niche. Back to Our Roots, Holsopple's blonde ale, is another noteworthy option. It's well worth snagging a pint if you feel like pivoting from sweet and hoppy flavors to something crisp and semi-dry. Blonde ales are surprisingly rare at Louisville breweries, but Holsopple does nice work with theirs. Beyond that, I've had good luck with sours and darker ales here, and I do feel that Holsopple's beer is on a positive trajectory overall. If you live in/near Lyndon and have any interest in craft beer, swinging by Holsopple is a no-brainer. Against the steeper competition in the greater Louisville Metro, it doesn't crack the top ranks, but those who make the trek will still find an enjoyable brewery with some tricks up its sleeve. read more

This brewery is quickly becoming one of my favorites. They continue to grow both in edits and in brewing quality beers. Beers: Their iPA is very solid, and their Coffee Stout is extremely tasty! The oatmeal stout is a close third place for me. I look forward to their special releases as those can be a nice treat, also. Facility: Dog friendly inside is a major plus. Typically a food truck outside, but on Sunday afternoon it was absent. They recently more than doubled their size for indoor seating, adding an additional bathroom as well as a dart board (outside of the bathroom). Throw in an old school console video game hooked up next to the big screen for sports and they're making it easy to look forward to my next visit here! read more

Headed over to Holsopple for the first time to grab a growler for quarantine. We drove up to the tent and were helped immediately. They had minimal contact precautions in place to prevent any accidental spread, and were very efficient! We took home the Apricot In The Moment, not something we would normally get but it sounded like summer so we went for it. $5 fee for the growler deposit and for a total of $21 we had craft beer for two for the week! It's been months! I'm gonna write a review! We stopped at Holsopple after dining for burger week and had a marvelous time. Parking is ample, there is a little outdoor area for hanging out. There are bagged snacks, but nothing hot. We sat at the bar and I wish I could remember the bartender's name, but he was awesome. He was kind and patient, allowing us to taste some beers. My husband chose the Heine Brother's Coffee stout and I picked the Pineapple Milkshake IPA. Can you say cream soda! So good! But jammed back with booze, be careful. Not many people are adding lactose to beers and although it may not make it a "true beer", it's still absolutely freaking delicious. It was nice that my second beer could be a five oz pour, so I could enjoy a little bit more flavor and drive home safely. You can purchase growlers or large cans too. Holsopple Brewing been our go to place throughout the pandemic. It's our favorite local brewery where we feel the most comfortable hanging out when outside our home. Went to the brewery to attend Beer with a Scientist. The talk was pretty good but the acoustics were terrible. The place is really small and difficult to find. They did have plenty of chairs set up so everyone could sit if they wanted. It was nice that they brought pizza in and served it for $2 a slice since they don't serve food other than bagged snacks. On a given night there may be enough parking but due to the event parking lot was full. My husband had one beer and said it was pretty good. He had the 12 oz Paula's pilsner that was $4. So I suppose prices were reasonable for beer. They also had 5 oz size beer for $2.50. The selection seemed to be pretty varied. This is a great local beer brewery! It is small and intimate with a nice outdoor tented area. Everyone was friendly, bartenders and patrons! I started off with the flight to taste a little bit of everything. All I can say is it is some of the smoothest beer I have had! My personal favorite was the Dunkel. As though beer was not enough, a food truck was parked outside. None other than the delightful FlavaVille! The loaded fries were full of flavor, with a touch of spice but of course fries! With all the great beer and food comes good service! The owners are the bartenders that genuinely make you feel at home! I see this place being similar to Cheers but better! Wife had puffle fluff (or something like that) it's a sour with a raspberry marshmallow finish. I had the peanut butter porter it was full of flavor. Hidden gem in Lyndon! Quaint, homey brewery off of Lyndon Lane. It's tucked towards the back of the complex past the dance studio, so it was a little hard to find. We went on a Saturday night and they had live music which was awesome. It was busy, but not overwhelmingly so and there was plenty of seating. Some tables close to TVs to watch the game and some closer to the band. There were lots of beer options, and really unique ones! I loved the peach gose which tasted light and crisp. My husband loved the New England IPA and the Kentucky heat (peppered cream ale with jalapeños and Serrano peppers). The latter one had spice, but it was still a refreshing beer! Yummy beer and a great atmosphere. Tucked away in Lyndon, you might not even know they are there but once you find them you will not forget the location. I had two beers and my bill was cheeper then expected. The first was a porter with a smooth finish and the other was knock me on my butt blonde ale with a 9.6 ABV that came in a 12oz pour. I sat at the bar and enjoyed the company around me. The patrons were all friendly and willing to chat. I don't recall any music but I was okay with that. Sometimes you want to go to a place that does not have blaring music so you can think or talk to the person next to you. I am eager to go back and check out some of their other beers and the patio when it warms up. You can buy growlers of beer to take home and bring back for a fill up. Tried Holsopple tonight and loved it! Casual indoor and outdoor seating, fun games on the tables and corn hole and other "yard games" available too. My husband had the Citrus IPA and I had the Apoula. Both delicious! The Citrus IPA is like a blue moon w/ an orange + more hops. I'm personally not as big of a fan of the super hoppy beers, so the bartender offered two free samples to help me find what I liked best. That's how I ended up on the Apoula - light, fresh, delicious. I couldn't wait to try out this place, and I wasn't disappointed. I had the Golden Gambill. They just tapped it for the first time today; it's 15 days old. It was delicious. The place itself is small but has plenty of seating inside and out. They've managed to make a rather dour strip mall location into a cozy place to spend an hour or two. Lots of wood and good music. Everyone was friendly and glad to see me. They don't offer much food other than packets of chips and candy bars. Food trucks park there. Longshot Lobsta was there when I dropped by. They sell growlers and flights of their beers. All in all, they made a great first impression. I will be back. read more

Nice to have a local brewery away from Highlands/downtown for those of us who live out in the burbs ;) We came here late on a Saturday afternoon. We were with my mom, waiting for my dad to get out of an all-day event, so we grabbed some snacks from home and headed to Holsopple. The bartender was friendly. Mom and husband each had a flight, and I had water because I don't like beer, haha. The flights are priced per beer rather than per flight. Husband enjoyed all of what he tried. Mom only liked two or or three of her four, but I don't fault the brewery for that. She's kinda picky about beer! They do sell some snacks (mainly, or maybe only, potato chips) but you're welcome to carry food in as well. The taproom is small without feeling crowded. There is lots of additional seating outside on picnic tables under a tent for when the weather's good. There are tons of board games to play if that's your thing. It's a friendly little place. We'll likely be back again to spend some time on a lazy weekend afternoon; maybe play a game next time. read more

I'm not sure how I'm only just now discovering Holsopple Brewing, but I'm glad I did! Of course, right now things are a bit different due to Covid, but I still had a good experience. Right now you can only sit outside, but they have a lot of seating and tents to shield you from any bad weather that may come along. For my drink, I stuck to my comfort zone and ordered a hard cider. This cider reminded me more of a light beer, but it was still really good! On certain nights they also serve empanadas, which I would really like to try! read more
