Based on the atmosphere and quality of wine, I love this little spot. It is so cosy. We were the only customers in the store and received superb service. The owner runs this location and a few other shops, plus hosts food tents at festivals during Christmas. She came over to our table and made some wine recommendations and gave us a bowl of crisps on the house. My partner, Seth S., and I both ordered the Pinot Noir from Romania. It was delightfully full-bodied and smooth. The lighting is dimmed just enough to encourage good conversation and a comfortable atmosphere. There are two main rooms for seating, each with groupings of chairs or booths around bistro style tables. The art and decor feel like a brasserie. I would highly recommend The Deli for a delicious glass of wine (or 3) and great conversation with friends.

Breakfast Review:…read more One of the best Full English breakfasts in the Midlands! Its a wonderful deli, on the High Street in Boldmere, with outdoor seating - which is superb when the sun comes out! The breakfasts are awesome. Superb sausages, great bacon, exceptional bread, (the deli sells some of the best bread in Birmingham). 2 succulent sausage, 2 bacon, fried egg, 2 half tomatoes, mushrooms. toast, quality butter. Its one of the best in Birmingham, (I rate it joint 2nd). The staff are great, headed by Pip the owner and her team of assistants, (including sons). The only real problem with this place is that I always spend a fortune on their amazing cheeses, breads, cakes and pate's. Try it. You will thank me!

All the pastry has the unmistakable individual hallmarks of good, shop-made products. Eric Lyons also stock home-made pickles, chutneys, and the more unusual Madhuban Honey Garden (the perfect brand name for Indian influenced cuisine made in rural England), fresh and hand-made curry sauces. On the drive over here I was discussing with my driver my considering being a vegan. All that is in doubt now that I am positioned over the meat cabinet on the other side of the shop. It's filled with traditional chops and steaks, and some more unusual products. Turkey Balti sausages are another example of Indian meets English, and while I wont' be buying them in the warmth of late May, they are a top contender for Boxing Day supper. We leave with two chilli burgers and two minted lamb burgers, for an early evening barbeque, but I'll return for a proper mission here later this year and I'll be sure to have plenty of room in the freezer.

Moseley farmers market is an award winning market held in the central square of Moseley. I had been…read moremeaning to get down for months before I finally managed it this Saturday... And I wasn't disappointed. The market is exactly what you would want a medium to large sized market to be. Offering a huge range of locally sourced goods sold to you by the actual producers of the items, you can get most things you would need to stock up the fridge, freezer and cupboards (with a good amount of locally made crafty things too). It's in a pretty setting and has a lovely community feel to it. We managed to find parking in the small shopping area just up from St Mary's Row at around 9:15am, but parking could be a bit of a nightmare if you were getting here later. The square area offered braces of pheasants for £6, cheese, wine, condiments and artisan food products and the High Street area (which we hadn't realised was there until we were leaving - D'oh) offers more of a crafty element. We had a nice little poke around the stalls and chatted to many of the business owners about their products and they were more than happy to talk to us and advise where the items are made and the ingrediants that go into them. We got some lovely locally made fizzy red wine (Did you know there are vineyards in the Midlands?) for £10 a bottle, some hot sauce from Pip's and was very tempted by cakes and unusual scotch eggs... We are definitely planning to go back. If you haven't been, you must go. Get there early if you're planning to drive but the buses down to Moseley drop you off right in the thick of the action, do that might be the best idea.

I've been attending the market for over three years now, and I rarely miss a month. The stalls always draw me back when I'm needing a healthy variation to my diet, and the price range is perfect value for money. Specifically regarding the Beans & Leaves stall, which sells a wide range of both coffee beans and loose teas. Most of these infusions rarely reach the £4 mark for 100g, which results in more than enough tea for two for several months! The tea stall holder himself is a bubbly yam yam who'll immediately strike up a conversation. It's just a shame that his stall is on the windiest part of Moseley, meaning that a lot of his tea ends up at the other side of the market! But of course, on first visit, you'll want to sample everything. Whether this be jam, ostrich burgers, bakery, alcohol or cheese (in fact, I highly recommend the Warwickshire Truckle), there's literally something for everyone. I've also tried a range of unlikely produces which sometimes appear at the market, such as a piece of fruit called a quince, and a green tea cake, both equally as delicious as the other. As a worthy winner of "best farmers market in the UK 2012", Moseley Farmers Market is a treasury to Birmingham and brings a tasteful locality to the streets of Moseley.

Local Hot Sauce! When people in this city refer to 'local' produce and foods, in reality it has…read moreprobably crossed some miles from over the Warwickshire border. Which isn't a bad thing. It's close enough. But to have someone cooking up small batches of hand-crafted sauce in your very own suburb, not three miles from the city centre is a bit special. And Pip's Hot Sauce is special stuff, indeed. Most chilli sauces fall into one of two categories: They are either mid-sweet and ketchupy in consistency like a cheap chip-shop style sauce, or the US type; all vinegary and thin; all hot-hot-heat and no real taste. Pip breaks the mould with the first sauce out of her kitchen. Her maverick touch is to use smoked ingredients, which give El Boca Del Diablo an original flavour all of its own. Fairly hot and well-balanced it's the perfect condi-mental companion to nachos, or used as an ingredient in other Mexican meals. After I'd opened my first bottle, I livened up a tuna pasta bake with a dash of the devil. For those Adam Richman wanna-bees, there is Nagatropolis. Made with Naga Ghost chilli and Scotch Bonnet it comes with the warning 'As soon as you open the bottle you're on your own, pal!' Perfect for when your dining experience needs to be a Man Versus Food occasion. There's more! La Barbacoa is a BBQ sauce. 'I like to put a splash of that in my baked beans', offers sometime stall-worker Heidi Heineken.' When you follow her advice, your taste buds will transport you to a campfire somewhere near the Tex-Mex border. Most, (if not all) the sauces are suitable for vegans and vegetarians. Can it get better? Yes. The sauces are all prepared using fresh ingredients and free from artificial business. And you can taste this. For the full range of Pip's Hot Sauces sees her website. Or even better catch up with Pip at her stall at one of the many Farmer's Markets, and craft and food fairs in Birmingham and beyond.

I am OBSESSED with Pip's Hot Sauce…read more I first discovered Pip's (being sold by Pip herself) very shortly after moving to Birmingham nearly three years ago, at a pop up street food market. I've been hooked ever since. I go through bottles of Pip's way faster than I'd like to admit. Pip's comes in many fantastic flavors, but my go-to is the classic 'La Boca del Diablo', which has a garlicky kick and tastes good on literally everything. There's a range of flavors available, and they sometimes experiment with new ones (they've recently added BBQ sauces to their line). If you find Pip's for sale in person at a market or event, you can usually sample everything. They also have great gift sets available. You can order online, or follow them on twitter (@Pipshotsauce) to see where to buy in person-- usually at Brum Yum Yum Street Food Market in King's Heath. Some great restaurants in Birmingham restaurants stock Pip's, including The Plough in Harborne and Buffalo and Rye in the City Centre! Fantastic, locally produced, hot sauce. Yum.
