This is one of two Natural Bridge State Park campgrounds. The other is Whittington. It's just a…read moremile or so away, on the opposite side of the road. I could almost bet a million dollars that I've driven by a thousand times and it always seems packed full. There are both RV sites and primitive sites available. There are just a few sites that I would recommend.... and the few others that line Middle Fork Creek. The creek is small, bet there were people fishing. There are two completely areas to this campground. One, is sort of like a subdivision in the city, huge cluster sites, close together. The other part was a more relaxing, quieter section. Those were the sites along the creek. The only part that I would stay, if I did come back again, would be the creek side sites. I live in a subdivision in the city, so I want to vacation somewhere different. We attempted to book the night before we decided on our last minute, second camping trip of 2017. Reserve America is how you pre-book KY State Parks. Reserve America charges a $7.50 reservation fee, which I despise and have avoided by during a "walk-up". We had attempted to do a walk up here before, but they were full to capacity at both campgrounds. So, we knew that we needed to arrive early on a Friday. We arrived around 3:00 on a Friday in April and there were only two spots available. Both weren't prime locations either. Note to self... never trust doing a walk up here, it's always way too booked up. And score a site creekside. The regular walk-up weekend rate is $34. That is crazy expensive for the condition of the sites. We were in site B7 and when we arrived, the people beside of us were hooked up to our water faucet. We later found out why. The one that we ended up with leaked and gushed water. It caused our site and even the site on the other site, muddy. The annoying thing was that the guys at check-in said that they already knew about it. The activities around are pretty limitless. Ziplining, rock climbing, hiking, or just plain site seeing up in a chair left, I would say that the Natural Bridge SP area is one of the boomingest state park areas in Kentucky. A lot of the campers head out for the day, leaving their dogs in their campers. There was a lot of barking when we walked around the campground and even sat outside. Pets aren't allowed on the hiking trails, so if you plan to hike in the area, know that ahead of time.

Perhaps the low cost has something to do with the way everything layout in this campground? The electric/water hook ups were on the wrong side of RV/trailer, dump station is on the opposing traffic, rain drainage was none existence as any moisture collected above are being seeping out across multiple sites below. Our site#B6 was closed to the comfort station, which was a bit dated, but showers, toilets, and sinks were clean and functional. Sites here will need leveling blocks to make it right. There are also primitive sites right next to a creek running on one side and warning of flash flood on the other side. Since the entire campground just below Hwy 11, car noise could be a problem for light sleepers. OTA TV has 12 digital channels. No WiFi reception inside this valley, weak LTE/3G here but somehow we got free TengoInternet at picnics area and near cottages. If not for Natural Bridge formations, Red River Gorge, Nada Tunnel nearby, we wouldn't think we stay as long as we did.

My family and I went for a hike here last weekend during Labor Day weekend. We drove about an hour…read moreand a half down to the place. I've heard good things we've seen good pictures so we decided to climb up the mountain through the East pinnacle track and look over everything in the beautiful scenery. It was a pretty easy hike not too challenging I have two young kids and they made it up pretty well. However we go hiking a lot so this was not too challenging which my kids really appreciated. There's a lot of people to bring dogs we had a game to see how many dogs are passed for the bottom to the top we passed 31 dogs so it was a lot which was good because my daughters like to pet the dogs. So definitely recommend it definitely will be back a +5 stars

Very clearly marked trail and not a lot of elevation changes most of the way except for the area around the arch. Gray's arch is very beautiful, fascinating how features like these are shaped by nature. After the arch area, there is a forested area with streams that is fun. Overall, the trail is not too long, has interesting sights to see and not very strenuous.

This is a park formed out of reclaimed farmland attached to EKU, of which their website gives a…read moredecent description. To get to it, one has to drive through at least a mile of somewhat dubious gravel road, which is doable if you don't have an off-road sort of vehicle, but not something I would make a habit out of. Or you can run in on the cross-country trail if you have some time on your hands. The scenery when you get there is quite pleasant, and offers a variety of topography. You'll hear plenty of birds, and dodge plenty of bugs. The paths were discernible as such, but had plenty of growth on them and you definitely want to be tick-safe (as the sign at the entrance reminds you). Some areas have running water with rather inadequate fords, so be prepared to get a little muddy. There are various signs detailing the sort of flora and fauna of the region and the history of the environment. I hit most (but not all) of them in an hour or so. It's a nice bit of Kentucky landscape, of which there are too few pieces open for public use. The research function for the university is also valuable I'm sure. I think the threshold to make it a little bit more usable is not that high. I wouldn't want to see it overdeveloped, but a little more work towards the trails and road would go a long way.

Aw, Liz Weber (owner of Muir Valley) was ADORABLE! She was there when we showed up the 2nd day, map…read morein hand, and directed us so that we knew what to do in an emergency. She even had some recommendations for a dryer climb, since the weather the day before had been a little wonky. On top of that, all the climbers we met were perfectly respectful. It was a carry-in, carry-out preserve and thankfully the only 'garbage' I saw on the ground was a blanket of leaves everywhere - which was perfectly oh-so-fall. The walls, as Liz mentioned, were incredible, even in the rain (not all, but some), since there were walls with overhangs that blocked out even the nastiest of storms. There was a bathroom in the parking lot and an outhouse closer to where we climbed. The trails were well marked and a quick Google search would bring you information about every single route and its ratings that you could find in the preserve. We loved this place, the slabs, the crags, the well-worn muddy paths, the chimney climbs, the practice walls - loved it all. I can't wait to bring back a larger group of climbers here! There are very clean…read morebathrooms, lots climbing opportunities, and they have 8 stick clips available for borrow (free and honor system of returning). We climbed here for two days and will be going back. There are routes for every skill level. Climbing routes are well maintained and well marked.
