They were super helpful when I brought my '93 Sportsmobile here after finishing the 4x4 conversion to have the guys look it over. This van is my first big offroad vehicle and the folks at Holland talked through the little issues I was experiencing with me and helped me understand what to expect from the new axles and suspension. friendly and knowledgable service here, I would reccomend to anyone with a 4x4 or van that needs mechanical work. Thanks guys! read more

I've been a physician (emergency medicine/internal medicine) for decades but always have done my own auto repair work since I was raised as a mechanic and have a decently-equipped garage. I have rebuilt engines, changed clutches, worked on brakes, suspension, and exhaust, etc. My 2015 Nissan XTerra Pro had multiple dashboard warning lights on (ABS, anti-skid, engine light, etc.) and the speedometer didn't work. My OBD Bluetooth fault code reader indicated a wheel speed sensor or control module problem, but I couldn't figure out what it was - I tested all 4 speed sensors and looked at the wheel sensor wiring and everything seemed good. I gave up. Julio at Holland spent several hours tracking down the problem - turned out to be a minor issue, namely corroded grounding wire of the control module cable. I never would have figured it out on my own and Holland gets credit for the great sleuthing work. I willingly paid for the hours of labor, and there were no hefty (and unnecessary) charges for un-needed parts. read more

Been taking my cars here for 4 years now and the staff is awesome. I trust their work and honesty, no BS. I had a 2005 Honda Accord which broke down on me during a road trip through the desert. I had to get towed to a mechanic in Flagstaff AZ whom I had never met and wasn't sure what to think of the diagnostic report. I called Chris at Holland and he looked through the pictures and report I sent him and talked me through my options free of charge. Although my car was totaled Chris gave me more confidence in handling the situation and talking to the other mechanic. read more

These guys are the best! Definitely take your vehicle to them. They are trustworthy, kind, and genuinely care about their customers. If you want a garage that you can trust check them out! read more

I called in to get a quote for a repair on an older car and was told "That is just not a car where are taking in right now." I politely asked the gentleman on the phone for clarification on what he meant: "Can you please explain what you mean by that?" " I am not sure I undestand, can you explain the rationale? He repeated the same sentence four times in a condescending tone. The repair I need costs over $1,200 in labor alone. I understand a business can refuse service to anyone, but treating customers poorly is not a profitable business practice. A positive tone and some patience can do wonders, even I am being turned away! read more

My car is a senior citizen, an old Honda with well over 100,000 miles, but I am hopeful it will go another 100,000 with continued service from the sane, measured, honest folks at Holland. They keep things working, over and over, for fair prices. They've fixed my a/c, replaced a hose on my power steering, and provided routine maintenance...they seem to be able to do it all. Christine keeps me in the loop in real time, and Chris is always thorough and detailed when he writes things up. Less than a mile from my house, very local, and highly recommended. read more

Horrible. First appointment canceled by mechanic for personal emergency. Rescheduled, got a text 45 minutes late, unable to keep appointment. Asked to reschedule for the following week. Total waste of time. read more

I recently brought my car to Holland Service for an oil change and a few other issues I was having with my car. Chris, the owner, was able to help me quickly and professionally. These folks know what they're doing and they do it exceptionally well. They are honest with no BS. Fast, super friendly and you just can't beat their prices! Holland Service ROCKS!! read more

This review is a long time coming and I'm glad I'm finally sitting down to acknowledge them for the years of great service they have given me. Chris the owner and Robert my favorite mechanic have always been honest and fair with me and done a great job keeping me and my car on the road. Lexann the office manager had recommended them when our kids used to play together by basically saying ' they don't 'fix' stuff that isn't broken. That is for sure true. They are all friendly, accommodating down to earth real people and super competent professionals. Usually you'll need at least a week (unless emergency?) to get an appointment so whenever possible give yourself plenty of time to get the service on your car you're needing. Again, highly recommend! read more

I let my water pump leak go too long and it overheated. That caused the intake manifold to leak as well. Chris and the team fixed both problems in just two days. They didn't even lecture me about letting the problem go too long. They are always fair, professional, and friendly. I love this place. read more

I have brought my Ford Econoline van here several times for service and every time they've been very helpful and quick in their diagnostics and repairs. Happy with the work and friendliness of the staff! read more

My local electrician friend and fruit tree pruning client told me Chris is "the best" and after also reading the previous Yelp reviews, and having a large 1993 Ford Club Wagon (Sportsmobile conversion van) which not everyone wants to work on due to size or age, I was happy to learn they work on plenty of vans and larger vehicles. My van had been sitting way too much the past two years and more and it needed most fluids changed and a variety of details handled, and Chris and crew seemed to do a great job at a fair enough price. Chris also patiently answered all my questions and I feel like I can trust him anytime with work or further questions. It is always good to find mechanics and others who combine honestly and conscientious skills. I think Chris and co-workers qualify, so thanks Holland team! read more

Always honest. Chris Will always give sound advice. He won't try to sell you on unnecessary services or parts.

I Came in today with a broken car that needed a tad of tender loving care. An amazing and professional mechanic named ALEX came to my rescue and resolved the issue in a fast and timely manner. Thank you ALEX and Holland Service for the fast and efficient car service I received today. I will be returning for future repairs seeing my experience here was an absolute joy. Everyone I crossed paths with today that worked here were very nice and a delight to be around. I truly felt my vehicle was in excellent hands. These mechanics really know what their doing and I recommend you make an appointment to have your car repaired here. read more

Holland Service - Auto Repair Near Me - Berkeley, California

I really like and trust Holland Service. I've taken two different cars there over the years. I feel safe asking Chris, the mechanic, anything about my car without fear of judgment/looking stupid. He breaks everything down in an itemized list and explains what really needs to be done now vs. what could be taken care of down the line. Also, there's a great coffee shop (Highwire) and yoga studio (Addison Yoga Loft) right down the street if you're looking for a place to be while you get your car worked on. read more

These guys are probably the best mechanics you can find. I have a very large old chevy van with an unwieldy 7.4 liter 454 v8. To make matters worse, it's crammed into a small and very hard to get to engine compartment. The prospect of changing out the spark plugs and wires was frankly daunting. This from someone who's pretty mechanically savvy. No problem for Chris and the crew at Holland Service though! They did a full service (oil change, etc.) as well as replaced all my spark plugs and ignition wires and vacuum set up. They checked the rest of the truck over and let me know any other potential problems, things like replacing the differential seal and fluid. Clearly they were unafraid to crawl under and inspect my beast of a truck. The truck starts right up now, and runs and idles beautifully. Plus it passed smog with no problem after this. Even more important was all the free advice and wisdom they gave me. This old truck is unusual, and I had to learn a lot. I was impressed with how much Chris the owner and the other mechanics knew. Even though their price is super fair--what you pay for with places that have been around a while like Holland Service is the tremendous expertise and experience, especially for odd old school vehicles like mine. Added to all this they are friendly and solution-oriented. These guys are 5 star and worth every penny! read more

Friendly. Easy to work with. Honest. Fair price. Trustworthy. Clean. Accommodating. Reliable.

I took my car to get an oil change at another shop over the weekend and something wasn't right afterward. I called up Holland service anxious about what was going on with my car. Recently, I drove to the Berkeley area from Ventura, and the second day of my visit the Alternator on my car stopped working properly. Asking around if anyone knew of a reputable and reliable local repair shop, I was twice referred to Holland Service. Upon my arrival, Christine greeted me with a fantastic smile, and inquired how she could help me. Right away, I knew these were good people to work with. As I explained my car challenge, and the fact that I was out of town with no other transportation, Christine immediately went to work on my behalf to move things around in the schedule to fit me in. She inquired of Chris, the owner, how they could help me out, and both of them put their minds together to make it happen for me! Needless to say, the outcome was incredible! Not only did they fit me into the schedule, they gave me an estimate of what was wrong, what options I had available, what they recommended, how long it would take, and how much it would cost me... all up front, so I could make an intelligent decision on the facts. That's the way a business should be run! The outcome was exactly how it should be... my car is fixed, working fantastic; my downtime was minimal considering the circumstances; the pricing was more than fair (did I mention they offer a Senior Citizen discount?); and their customer service is spectacular! I'd highly recommend Chris (He's a fantastic business owner), Christine (she really runs the place), and all the likable, knowledgeable and experienced Technicians at Holland Service for ALL your auto maintenance and repairs! read more

It was late and my tire sensor light came on. I ask the owner Chris if he could check the pressure on my tires. He helped me out right on the spot. I personally want to thank him for during that. I have done business with them in the past and they some of the friendliest people. read more

I live around the corner. I think Chris is a good guy who might have gotten too busy for his shop's capacity and quality has suffered as a result. I had 2 separate bad experiences here. Once I drove my truck in to get the starter/flywheel looked at and I watched on one of his mechanics literally rip a wire out from under my hood and then claim it needed a $40 repair. I'm a mechanic on the side and could have repaired the part for the cost of a two cent plastic connector, but now my truck was stranded at his shop and I didn't have my tools. I asked to borrow tools to fix it and he said that he wasn't in the tool rental business. So he charged me $20 as a compromise. the best part was that I DID THE REPAIR while his mechanic watched. that I can't blame on him, but he also didn't take ownership of the mistakes his employees made. The second thing was troubleshooting and changing a starter pinion / flywheel on the same Toyota. I got all the parts for him and asked him to either replace the flywheel ring gear and/or the starter, whichever had the worn teeth causing the problem. When I went to pick it up he had replaced both of them, and so I asked for the old parts back. The starter was clearly bad, and the ring gear was in great shape, which meant the ring gear didn't need to be replaced. His mechanics just didn't care enough to follow directions and inspect the parts they were replacing. Again, this was not directly Chris's fault, but a result of him hiring sub-par guys to work at his shop, and then not taking responsibility for the work they did. I hope he has since increased the quality of his mechanics, there is great potential for this shop, its just falling short as is. read more

Wife took our old car there because of good yelp ratings. We paid an exorbitant amount and a couple months later we had more problems with the car. Hard to tell if it was the same thing or related but was made to think all issues were resolved. What I didn't like is he started working on the car without giving us a quote or estimate. One redeeming quality it was repaired quickly but maybe that was a negative. We will never know :-( I just hope we don't have to go back there again. read more

Fantastic service and Chris knows his stuff!! Took the time to speak with me and educate me!

I love this place. Last honest garage in the east bay. I seriously hope they can stay in the neighborhood !!

I recently joined the legion of folks who've had the catalytic converter stolen from their car. For me, it happened Christmas Eve, so I knew it was going to be tough even finding a shop that was answering their phones, much less open. But after reading laudatory reviews here on Yelp, I tried Holland Service. Trevor was really helpful, scheduling my job for the first available post-holiday slot. The job itself was done in a day, including installation of a guard to (hopefully) deter anyone who might think of helping himself to my new converter! All this for a very fair price. Great work guys -- thanks! read more

Christine at the front desk is super sweet and helpful. Even if they can't take me that day they work with me and my schedule to help me get my car in for repairs. Christine was very attentive to my needs. I admit I had been shopping around getting price quotes on replacing a Serpertine belt. Prior to my call I wasn't in a good head space. The person whom I purchased the car from mentioned that the belt will probably be the next thing I would need to take care of. When I expressed concern, he said it wouldn't be something I would need to address anytime soon and can't imagine it to be more than a hundred or two to get work done. I didn't push for him to get it done before signing on the dotted line. He said wishful thinking when I asked him to help with expenses. Lesson learned. Anyhow, not in a good head space... Kristine gave me a quote for both, labor and the belt: $100.00. Also, on yelp they currently had a promotion: buy now for $50.00 and get a voucher valued at $75.00. Walked out paying $23.00 and change. One of the other quotes I got prior to committing to Holland Services was from Ocean works in Berkeley. They do good work and had gone to them multiple times. However, they quoted me $225.00 to $275.00. Wow!!! Too expensive!!! Part is about $30.00. My parents still take their car to Oceanworks. I feel they are getting the short end of the stick. Even if they believed they were or had been cheated, they wouldn't speak up or question it. They just pay the ticket. I was nervous to try a new place especially for car work. Happy I did. I gave five stars assuming nothing will go wrong with belt. They will be the first place to call for my next service. read more

It was a pleasure working with Holland Service and the owner Chris. I thought my breaks needed to be replaced but it turned out they were fine. This could've be an easy time to get taken advantage of but an hour after I dropped of my car Chris called and let me know the breaks had a lot of useful life in them. I can easily trust this operation after that cause it would've set me back $300+ to replace those breaks. Chris then pointed out a few other issues that should be handled before they became bigger problems, and was very up front and accurate with his pricing. He also gave me a thorough checklist of things I should keep my eye on in future. I will continue to go here and I recommend Holland Service to anyone looking for a good auto shop. read more

When I drove my packed mini van cross-country, by the time I got here my brakes were completely shot. I brought my car into Chris based on a recommendation from a friend and it was the best decision I ever made! They got me in quickly, the pricing could not be beat, and everyone I interacted with was so kind and helpful. When I need my A/C fixed recently, I didn't think twice before calling them again and I am so glad I did. Chris walked me through all of my questions with care and patience. 10/10 would recommend to anyone needing work done on their car. read more

This Monday morning came in hot. As I was parking to work for the day, a random passerby told me my car was drizzling oil all over the road. I have no clue about cars, so called my husband and he suggested I take it to a mechanic as soon as possible. Holland Service was thankfully just a few miles away from my location. They were extremely professional, courteous and friendly from the start. Even though it was a busy day for their shop, they gave me a competitive quote quickly. I was expecting the repair to be complete midweek. Around 5 pm I received a call that the repair was complete AND *under budget*. I was absolutely blown away by their value & service. I highly recommend Holland Service & feel so fortunate I stumbled across their shop. read more

Have had many vehicles serviced with Holland over the years, most recently, a 2003 Toyota Tacoma with a complicated list of problems, all resolved with excellence and attention to detail. Without hesitation, I recommend Holland Service. read more

I've brought my truck to these people three times over the last ten years, and they've always taken good care of the old girl. Each time I told them what I thought needed to be done (like Diesel fuel filter replacement, alternator replacement), and each time that's exactly what they did, without trying to sell me on some other work. The young lady who runs the office is knowledgeable and professional, and takes care of a customer in a friendly and helpful way. The guy who runs the shop and/or does the work is efficient and communicative. He always calls me up to say what he's going to do and how much the estimate is, takes the truck for a spin if necessary, and calls as soon as he's finished. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this shop to a friend. read more
