My van getting dropped off.

Chris and the team at Holland (shouts out to Jiro!) are the honest, communicative, knowledgeable, efficient, and cool mechanics of your dreams. Off road and on road expertise. These guys are it. I'm a mechanical engineer who's never let a shop touch my custom 4x4 van (I built it myself). Unfortunately, earlier this year I hydrolocked my engine on an off-roading trip, and don't have access to a shop space to do an engine swap myself. A worst nightmare for someone like me. After scouring google and yelp looking for a well reviewed spot that works on off road rigs, Chris and the team at Holland (aka Berkeley Off-Road) were the top of my list. I went by the shop and once I saw Chris' personally built custom rock crawler and Grand Wagoneer, I knew I'd found the right people. They have not disappointed. Jiro has since swapped a new engine and transmission into my van, with Chris communicating issues along the way and letting me decide how best to move forward. Heck, they even let me know when to come see the first start (!!). Do you like your truck or car? Bring it to Holland Service. A mechanic's shop by car people, for car people. I can't begin to describe how nice it feels to know that if I need, I have a shop I trust. Priceless. Keep places like this in business.

Chris is amazing. We got referred to these people by another car guy cause we were told they were the best. And boy they didn't disappoint! They fixed out differential, and when it still had problems, we brought it back in and addressed what adjustments were needed. We worked together as a team and I highly appreciate the work that was done. They also even pointed out some stuff on the car that was needed that no one else noticed ! Thanks so much Chris for your professionalism

Top quality service. Chris is the man. Found the issue, fixed it and the Jeep is back up and running smooth!

they are the only shop in the bay that i trust with the car that my wife and my daughter drive, and trust with my work truck. Our family safety on the road. I drive classic 90's vehicles, and it is worth their price per hour to know that Chris is an expert who really sees the value in quality vehicles, and knows how to make them work. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of vintage subarus and chevy trucks. they are the only shop i use.

Fleet maintenance with holland service

Chris and Trevor always take care of me when we need our fleet maintenance. I can't thank them enough for their quick service and friendliness . I also like that they always use quality parts. It gives us peace of mind, knowing our vehicles are well-maintained.

The automotive techs at Holland are efficient, knowledgeable, polite and expedient. They took care of my automotive needs in a no nonsense way, and the price was right. I recommend the mechanics at Hollands and especially Chris and the two roosters. Dr. Dave gives you 5 stars! Aloha

Chris received a $17,000 estimate from the dealer to replace the entire system, which was pretty shocking.

THE GOOD: This small…read moreshop is ran by a guy name Earl. Seems to have been in business for quite some time. I go to him on a Monday 10/20/25 for a smog diagnosis that he charged $95, about the standard price. He was able to complete the inspection and gave me a diagnosis back same day (approx. 4 hours total time). He offered a free throttle body clean because upon their inspection, the throttle was dirty and had a lot of carbon build up. I was notified the vehicle would be ready for pick up at 4:15PM, I told him I was going to be there 4:30PM. When I had arrived, earl was nice enough to wait around after they had closed for me to receive my vehicle. THE BAD: After I paid him for the diagnosis, he told me what was wrong and gave me the keys, then promptly left with a friend that was awaiting him. Right after I pulled off in my car, something was awfully wrong. The idle RPMS was sitting at almost 2K RPMS on a cold start and would come to about 1500-1900RPMS the entire time. As I was driving while hitting the gas you could hear what sounded like was a vacuum leak somewhere and car has some minor lost power. I call Earl immediately after, but he was already gone from the shop; Earl told me to just bring it in first thing in the morning. I bring the vehicle back to Earl on 10/21/25 a day later and present to him what had sounded like a vacuum leak. He was quick to check into but also VERY QUICK TO DENY RESPONSIBILITY. I told him that the vehicle was 110% not like this when I had brought it in and they definitely may have knocked a hose or two loose or something. They first told me they would not doing anything like that, and wanted to run a smoke down test in-front of me to check for vacuum leaks. I was told by Earl, they only took off the air intake boot to access the throttle body to spray carb cleaner and there's absolutely no way they caused any of the issues presented. They run the test, and there shows no leaks from the smoke. They also run a brake clean spray to see if it will choke the RPMs down (another method to check for vacuum leaks). We go for a couple of test drives back and forth, the mechanic that Earl has working for him, poor guys age is catching up to him and cannot hear a huge vacuum leak for his life. Earl claims to hear it as well, but cannot figure out what it is. Earl first blames the brake booster, and is adamantly asserting that he or his shop did not cause this. ***Earl THEN DISCOVERS A MISSING connection on my VSV, but the old mechanic claims it won't cause any vacuum leaks or noises and just caps it off.***. They then proceed to say the noise and high RPMS is an exhaust leak and show me where it is leaking. You can see exhaust smoke coming out the pipe right below the manifold but I wouldn't say it was sufficient enough to be causing such a vacuum leak noise. They adjudicate the issue is an exhaust leak, therefore, they did not cause it and cannot fix it anyways. It is worth mentioning I am not by any means a mechanic. I am what you call a garage monkey. I understand some concepts, but no way am I to be at the SUPPOSED level these guys are at. I have my doubts so I go home and take apart the air intake boot and further inspect the throttle body. There it is, lo and behold a vacuum line disconnected from the throttle body that was suppose to be connected the VSV. To summarize everything , Earl is a truthfully a honest guy it seems, but is seemingly incompetent on the work and guys working for him do rushed, shoddy, crude, messy work. It's not hard taking off an air intake boot and reconnecting all necessary hose lines back. Paid $95 for some problems they claim they didn't cause and don't believe the customer, ONLY to take it back home and undo the bad work they did. Crazy stuff and would not go back. Be wary of what you're doing here.

I noticed a transmission leak on my vehicle and decided to look for an expert transmission service…read moreprovider near me, and came across Leale's as I always look into reviews to see what people are saying i noticed honesty and to me that is key, so I've decided to contact them. And they told me bring the vehicle in for inspection. I arrived about 15 minutes before they open and surprisingly the gentlemen instead of pushing me away by telling me we are still not open asked me to come in and I was able to leave my car that is above and beyond especially because I expected a please wait. We're not open yet. So they contacted me that day. Giving me a price range. And they kept their word. My vehicle was there over the weekend, the next day, I noticed a check engine light on. So I decided to drive back To Leale's they put it in the scanner. And they noticed that it had a code related to the cadillac converter one of the gentleman there told the one that was scanning for codes. Raise up the vehicle, make sure that all the sensors are connected. They could have missed not connecting one. And that can be the cause of the check engine light. They did remove that check engine light. And also they had the person that was working on my car. The day before, and he mentioned that one of the gaskets in the exhaust before the Cadillac converter was a little deteriorated, and they recommended that I change that. So I do appreciate the honesty. My car is Running even better than before, as they did not just fix the leak but actually serviced the transmission. I would definitely recommend this place. It is hard to find Honest mechanics And Quality service also customer service was great clean shop respect you guys.

I read your response, and I'd like to clear up a few things--because your version of events leaves…read moreout some key details and adds a few creative flourishes of its own. First, calling the issue a "phantom noise" is a bit ironic considering I provided not one, but two video recordings directly to Leo. Hard to call something imaginary when it's literally on video. Dismissing it that way doesn't make the problem go away--it just makes it seem like you weren't interested in acknowledging what I actually reported. Second, the radiator cap. You've now framed it as though catching this $5 part was some heroic save that justified the entire visit. Let's not pretend replacing a radiator cap is equivalent to diagnosing the issue I brought the car in for. As for communication: I paid for a diagnosis, I left with no diagnosis, and the noise continues. That's the entire story. Your response suggests my review was inaccurate, but the facts are straightforward: - I brought you evidence of the noise. - The noise was not diagnosed. - I was charged anyway. That's not miscommunication--that's a service that didn't deliver on what I paid for. I'm glad your technician looked the car over, but the work I requested wasn't completed. That's why I shared my experience, and I stand by it. Regards, Yonas
