Yoga mats and towels to make my princess feel comfortable
Malisa R.

I took my 9.3 year old bullmastiff to see Dr.MacKinnon to explore holistic ways to treat her Hemangiosarcoma. My pup has been my fur baby since she was a puppy so dealing with this devastating news was hard. I explored options with chemo so I wanted to see what else I could do to ensure my baby's quality of life was not impacted. I was so happy that Dr. MacKinnon didn't just quote textbooks, but she has experience. Over 40 years to be exact! I am definitely grateful for individuals that spend time going to school, being one of those people, however science can only explain so much. She wasn't focused on scaring me with life expectancies if I didn't do X, Y, and Z. She was kind and provided a realistic options based on what she has seen with this type of cancer. The approach for treating my pup is focusing on immunity and Whole Foods. I did like that the vet was trained in Western and Eastern medicine so she supports chemo if it was effective for this type of cancer.

Water treadmill therapy
Jeni P.

My fur baby Chloe has a slipped disc and pain. I wanted to help her, not just cover up the problem with pain meds. She loves coming here. Everyone genuinely cares about her. They are wonderful with all of their fur baby patients. The laser therapy, water treadmill and acupuncture has been a game changer in how she feels and getting her back to good. Prices are comparable to others. Going once a week can get expensive. Wish they offered a package deal or coupon.

Budget is waiting for the treadmill to fill on his last day of treatment. He's doing great!
D L.

Budget, my 10 lb. beagle/dachshund, ruptured a disc in his lower back in November, 2016. After five months of crate rest he was no longer paralyzed but his back legs just didn't work right - his legs crossed, he walked on his knuckles and he had no apparent muscle in his legs. A friend recommended this treatment practice and we had a consultation in April, 2017. They started him out on underwater treadmill twice a week for several months and gave me some at home exercises for him. He improved enough to go once a week for several more months and then graduated to every other week. He gained almost 2" of muscle mass in 6 months and continues to get better, although he will never walk quite like other dogs. But he can walk and even run! His final treadmill session was on 8/7/18 and he's doing great! I can't say enough good things about the care and treatment my dog and I received from the staff at Holistic Veterinary Center. Budget had been in a hoarding situation, was not friendly and had to be muzzled for his first visit. That problem was resolved dramatically and was an unexpected bonus as a result of his visits and interactions with the staff. His vet, Dr. MacKinnon, was terrific to both of us and was always ready to answer questions in terms I can understand. I could tell that she really cared about my dog. The physical therapists and veterinary technicians were kind, knowledgeable and caring, and they always went out of their way to greet Budget and ask about how was doing. The dog, of course, was more thrilled with the pumpkin treats.

Jack on the tread, first day!! Such a great experience for him!

Dr. Molnar handled everything so calmly and efficiently--it took him only a few minutes to do what we had been struggling with for so long. He was a rescue as a puppy and had some sort of issue his entire 14 year life but I was lucky to have the means (and pet insurance) to treat any and all issues. That being said, paws and claws has been through with Renly: intestinal blockage surgeries, cancerous lump removal, epilepsy treatment, liver treatment,Osteoarthritis treatments. And because of them my husky lived 14 happy, pain free, years with amazing quality of life until literally his last day. We've been through several vets in the many years of patronage but Dr.D has been our vet for the last couple years and without a doubt her treatments are why my dog lived to 14 pain free and happy. Yes they are expensive, Woodland Hills, but pets are expensive. I highly recommend pet insurance for all pets as that is the reason I was always able to treat my dog. Last: the staff. Everyone at the front desk and the techs are amazing but I have to specifically point out Xavier, who has gone above and beyond for us more than once, and was the one to help renly pass, as they had their own special bond. and Bailey who has been there for us for many years as well. Now I have brought home a 10 month old east valley rescue who had kennel cough and several other shelter related issues and Dr. D has treated him appropriately and he is recovering quickly. I'll never go anywhere else. Love you guys!

I appreciate that there is complimentary wifi because on arrival I had zero reception so using the wifi helped me get the address for where I needed to head to next. The office is very clean and there are several friendly staff at the desk. I was checked in and given a room to wait. First the technicians came in and got a couple of tests on Reya's eyes. They were so gentle Reya stayed pretty still for them. Then the Doctor came in to talk to me and do a few more tests including staining. Reya was so calm and the Doctor was so gentle it went very smoothly. After the examination was finished the Doctor explained to me about the various issues that were found in Reya's eyes with a very thorough explanation of everything. We made a plan that I feel happy with for Reya and we will be following up again in a couple months. What is nice is they take care credit with the 0%APR option taking some stress off the payments. While I waited I perused through the book that has all the eye issues that dogs can have and it's really amazing that the eyes are so strong and yet so fragile. I recommend the Vetrinary Eye Clinic if your pet is having an eye problem.

The staff are friendly, unhurried, and coordinate well with one another and with the doctors. Now for the stuff that matters most: Compassion. I think of compassion as understanding someone's suffering, and then acting to soothe that suffering. By this definition, Dr. Sheahan is one of the most compassionate people I have ever met. When I first brought our cat Benny to her for a swollen eye, she used books, photos, videos, and a whiteboard to give me a clear idea of what she was thinking. She gradually unfolded the possiblity of cancer, so that I had time to process it both mentally and emotionally. She outlined the testing options step by step in plain language. She gave me some privacy to collect my thoughts, and then returned to complete our conversation. She called *after hours* to convince a radiology company to expedite Benny's CT scan. When the tests confirmed her suspicions, she didn't announce the bad news and then walk away. Instead, she spoke with gentleness and sat with my daughter and me in our grief. When we asked about next steps, she didn't tell us to go find a cancer specialist. Instead, the following morning she called *before office hours* to speak directly with the oncologist she trusts, to start Benny on treatment and get him scheduled. And Dr. Sheahan did this on her *own day off,* keeping me in the loop by phone and text. All while tending to her garden, and making me laugh. As a retired pediatrician myself, the highest praise I can give her is this: I wish she were *my* primary care doctor.

Unlike our previous experience where we were able to book ahead of time and plan for our pup's passing, this was a circumstance where our baby needed immediate services -- his body was failing. Once I saw our senior 13-yr old pup was telling me it was okay, I called Dr. Gonzalez at 7pm. She was at our home by 10pm. Our pup had been sick for several years, and in that last week, our primary vet had already told us his health was declining, so we at least knew the end was near. And I had already mentally prepared to be strong and let him go when he needed to -- so I had Dr. Gonzalez's number on hand. We live in an apartment building, so we reserved a spot for her in our lot as close as possible to an exit. She came upstairs to our home, and she had brought all her equipment. I had already imagined how I wanted this experience to go for my once in a lifetime soul pup. I sat on his favorite place on the sofa, and I had him in my lap. Dr. Gonzalez gave me a pee pad to wrap around him within the blanket understanding there could be an accident in the process as his body released his spirit. I had a candle lit. I had soft music playing. We had low lighting on to honor what was about to happen. Dr. Gonzalez was also super accommodating to our 2nd puppy who was curious about her and wondering what was happening to his big brother. She didn't shoo him away -- she invited us to keep the puppy around so he can know his big brother was about to pass on. She gave us time to speak to Nuxx, love on him, and then let him go. Then, it finally happened. And Dr. Gonzalez stepped out of our apartment for awhile, giving our little family time to grieve, sob, and hold our baby close. Our puppy sniffed him too and said his goodbyes. Then she came back, and she asked us if we wanted to be the ones to carry him out or she was happy to do so. My husband carried him, myself and our puppy followed along -- felt like a procession down our apartment hallway. We got to Dr. Gonzalez's car, and we gently placed our baby's body in her car, and said our goodbyes again. Then...it was done. Throughout the experience, Dr. Gonzalez was so incredibly supportive, gentle, understanding, and patient. What else can you ask for when such a heartbreaking thing is occurring? When a spirit is literally fading in your arms? I am still not over losing him, but at least I know we gave him the most peaceful send-off we could: in his own home, in our arms, surrounded by so much love. If / when we need to go through again, I will continue to call on Dr. Gonzalez. RIP Nuxx.
