This Best Western on the surface looks like most other Best Western Hotels but it has some quirks…read more In fact, I think whoever designed the rooms or approved the design is a kindred spirit with my dad. Everything was functional and "it worked" but things were a little bit strange. So at first we could not find the fridge. The most logical place for the fridge would be under the microwave, in the space under the counter that looks like it would accommodate a fridge. Since the coffee maker was next to the microwave, it just made sense that all food related equipment would be in this nook, right? Well, we finally found the fridge, it was in the closet!!! And the light switch to the light right at the entrance, where do you think that was? Also in the closet! You had to open the closet to find the light switch! Perfectly logical, right? Lol. And the little extra security latch thing, you had to slide open the closet door and keep it open to swing the security latch all the way open, otherwise it hits the closet door. And the light switch for the main part of the room is all the way at the back of the room. So if you didn't know to look in the closet to find the light switch at the entrance, you had to fumble your way in the dark to the back of the room to turn on the lights! We were in 105. Maybe it's just this room that's weird (?!?). However, I should note that when we were checking out, the front desk staff noticed the room we were staying in and she said it's her favourite room in the hotel. Not sure if she says that to everyone, or if the other rooms are even stranger, haha. Anyway, my dad would have been like, everything works, what's the problem? Lol. I am more forgiving of such strangeness, given my upbringing, but my husband thought it was pretty ghetto, haha. Breakfast was also funny. So we were traveling during the time of Covid (not our preferred time to travel, but we were coming home from an interment and wanted to break up our drive), so I was happy that everything was pre-packaged and to-go, but we stayed at another Best Western during our trip and they had hot wrapped breakfast sandwiches (bacon, egg and cheese in an English muffin), and other pre-packaged food. This place had vegetarian omelets that were cold (and although they did not appear frozen, they were rock hard, lol). They were put in individual Ziploc-type bags. We had to heat them up in the microwave in our room. I got a "danish" which was in the same type of bag, but not a single serving, it looked like it was a huge loaf that was manually cut into pieces. And it was more like a coffee cake than a danish. I did get an individually packaged (by the manufacturer) yogurt and apple sauce, and also a juice box. They had bread and bagels, which I passed on, also cottage cheese and whole fresh fruit. Breakfast was not as bad as at the Microtel that I stayed at once in Texas (that place takes the cake for the absolute worst breakfast - think stale pastries and expired juice - and it was over a decade ago, so during normal times, and the fact that I still remember it, says a lot), so I guess I shouldn't complain? Lolz. The hotel is also right by Highway 401. It's functional and serves its purpose as a place to stay. It's not glamourous nor cool. There's free parking. We paid around $130 a night. My husband was not impressed with this place. I thought it was satisfactory ;)

I only had to wait about five minutes and was greeted by a very friendly and efficient staff member. She let me know that instead of parking on the street I should park in the back parking lot for hotel guests and could access my room from there. I was worried that I'd be lugging my stuff up the stairs since most places with back exits don't have elevators. I was very pleasantly surprised to find they did have one! This place has clearly been recently renovated - the décor is modern and actually quite nice for an inexpensive hotel. It looks like they are still renovating as I noticed work being done on the main floor (the carpet was being torn up). My room (a standard queen) had two beds, a small closet, big workstation and a nice bathroom. I appreciated the microwave and fridge! While the room layout was very basic, the renovations really make it more desirable than many other chain hotels I've stayed in. Marble countertops and desk, dark wood accent panels and nice flooring and fixtures make this a comfortable place to spend the night. They also offer a complimentary breakfast, which is a nice plus! Waffles? Yes please! The one thing I noticed more than anything? The absolutely SPOTLESSNESS of my room! Seriously, I don't think I've ever stayed in a hotel this clean before. Downside? The walls are super thin so I could hear my neighbour showering and any time a door closed.

That is, until I pulled up to the hotel. I was a little freaked out about the neighbourhood it's in because of the assortment of "unique characters" on the drive up from the highway. But that feeling of unease turned into a great big NOPE when I drove up in front of the entrance. The street seemed like a favourite place of junkies and hookers and there was no way I felt safe leaving my car in their back-street parking lot. It took about 30 minutes of calls and I had to pay another $150 to find another place to stay (a brand new Holiday Inn Express just a few blocks away, with underground parking, and pristine rooms), but it was totally worth it. Stay away from this place if you can!

Exceptional Stay Thanks to Vik and His Teame recently needed assistance with a reservation during a…read morestressful, last-minute booking situation, and once again the Quality Suites Whitby delivered above and beyond. Our family of four has stayed here many times -- it's an affordable favorite -- and even during renovations, the hotel has continued to provide a consistently solid and comfortable stay. Special recognition goes to Vik Verma, the current General Manager, and his staff for their outstanding service and professionalism. Through my work, I'm closely connected to the hospitality industry, so I see firsthand how important it is for brands like Choice Hotels to hear when their teams are doing excellent work at the ground level. This is one of those times. Vik and his team truly deserve to be recognized for the exceptional service they provide. We are looking forward to our upcoming return and stay!

The entire hotel smelled like wet dog. the entire hotel including our room was AT LEAST 30 degrees celsius. The AC was non existent. The front desk took over 15 minutes to answer the phone when calling from our room. They couldn't provide a wifi password. Or a fan. Or a reason why the hotel was actually the Saharan Desert. The carpets were wet. The room was "cleaned" once on our 3 day stay (after we begged and pleaded with the front desk). And I say "cleaned" because all the dirty laundry was just thrown into our rooms closet. Just to further stress the impact and embarrassment of recommending our friends and family to book there during our stay as well, because it was our wedding day. I don't know how you expect to repair this extremely poor experience, but I can tell you that a lot of my family & friends are extremely dissatisfied.

I strongly urge anyone considering this hotel to look elsewhere. My experience at Homewood Suites…read moreby Hilton Ajax was not only disappointing but also deeply unprofessional. After checking out, I was falsely accused of damaging a mirror in the room and charged $200 without any written/photo evidence, or opportunity to dispute the claim. There was no room inspection at check-in or checkout, and no proof was provided to show when or how the damage supposedly occurred other than the housekeeping crews word that they had checked the rooms prior to our arrival. When I reached out for answers, the front desk manager, Ally, was evasive and unable to provide any documentation or a clear explanation for the charge. Ally admitted that they have no written policy regarding incidentals or damage charges despite being part of the Hilton franchise. There is no transparency, no standard process, and no accountability. Since this location does not provide you any written documentation for signature upon arrival, once you press the green button on the keypad, you're at the whim of the management of this location. That said, the rest of the staff of the hotel was accommodating and respectful.

Check in was easy and smooth. Rooms were clean and pretty spacious. We got the king studio, which has a kitchenette, sofa bed and dining table. The bed was decently comfortable. A big thing for us was that it wasn't noisy at night with people outside or neighbouring rooms, so we were able to get a good night's sleep. It's also right by the highway and has lots of parking. It's a kind of secluded area so it felt safe as well. There aren't too many options for places to stay in the area. We chose this one because it seemed to be the best overall with the reviews and price. Recommend if you're in the area and need somewhere to stay!

After we sanitized the space we realized that : - there were used washrags thrown over the top of the shower - the garbage bin was full - the refrigerator was filthy (absolutely thick with dirt and build up) - the bathtub was stained We wheeled our suitcases right back out.
