Small parking lot that wraps around the building, with several spots reserved for the rewards program members. We booked via American Forces Program, so I can't speak to the usual hotel system. Clean, staff were great, the fifth floor premium rooms have balconies with industrial carpeting. Combo tubs and showers. Just a little run down, our first room the shower was broken. Just north of the Kroger chain store and Dairy Mat, but you need a walk of several blocks or more for most dining and drinking options. Stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Detroit-Birmingham recently for a wedding in the area and had nothing but good things to say. This is easily one of the nicest Holiday Inn Expresses I've ever stayed at. The room was huge, the bed was super comfortable, and everything felt clean and well-maintained. The staff was also very friendly and welcoming, which always makes a difference. The location was perfect, close enough to where I needed to be without feeling hectic, and the price was great for the quality of the stay. Honestly, I have nothing bad to say about this hotel, especially for a Holiday Inn Express. I would absolutely stay here again if I'm ever in the area and highly recommend it. read more

Great hotel. Would stay here again. Check-in was super easy and took only a couple minutes, very friendly guy at the front desk. Got a double room, which was large, about standard size for American hotel rooms with two beds. The hotel is right on a busy road (Highway 1 / Woodward Avenue) but the windows are well-insulated and the road isn't as busy at night, so it was actually pretty quiet at night. Internet was fast and easy to connect. Shower and beds were comfortable. They have Dove branded shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand wash and lotion, which I far prefer over typical hotel toiletry products. Breakfast was tasty, with lots of options: pancakes, scrambled eggs, egg white omelettes, pork sausage, sausage gravy, biscuits, roasted potatoes, cinnamon rolls, oatmeal, toast, bagels, english muffins, pastries, jam, butter, cream cheese, hard boiled eggs, cereal, yogurt, milk, soy milk, apples, bananas, oranges. I think these options are standard for Holiday Inn Express. The pancakes were a bit thin and rubbery (makes sense, since they literally come out of a machine), but the rest of the hot food was quite good. The coffee machines grind the coffee fresh for each cup. There was a woman cleaning the breakfast area who kept it spotless. Breakfast is available from 6am-10am. It's great that breakfast ends late, but they were out of scrambled eggs and cinnamon rolls at 9:45am, so get there early if you want the full selection. There are trays provided so that you can bring breakfast up to your room. Asked for late check-out and got 1pm, very much appreciated! read more

I am beginning to realize my reviews could be better -- the last person who reviewed this place did a great job -- read it! We were there on a Friday night and the price was very reasonable. The guy at the front desk was friendly and efficient, and the room was very nice -- the hotel is located at an excellent and safe area. The following morning you could get a very good complimentary breakfast with fresh coffee (ground by the machine right there). All the staff were courteous and very polite. I don't see how you could ask for more. read more

Elaine was so, so nice on the telephone, but TBH seems to not know what to do. She failed to assist me when I called, resulting in me having to call back FOUR TIMES in order to accomplish the simple feat I requested before my client arrived to the hotel. It took 3+ hours to get a simple CC Auth sent to me for a client's arrival. Once I received and sent back the CC Auth it took another 2 hours to get a response. In the future I MAY go here again (for convenience since it's super close to the office), but will likely try other places (or Airbnb) first. read more

When you stay a Holiday Inn, you know what you're going to get. Up in Birmingham, MI for work, I thought this would be a pretty meh experience but I'm excited to report that this was one of the most accommodating, comfortable, friendly mid-range hotels that I've ever stayed in. The front desk was pleasant throughout my stay, and the basic amenities covered everything you could need. There's parking all around the building, the location is close to the downtown Birmingham area, there's free hot breakfast, and even a Kroger with Starbucks in it around the corner. Beyond that, my king size bed has me kicking myself for not buying one like it back home. It was so comfortable; super soft sheets, and big long pillows. As a parent of a newborn, the amount of sleep I got made this feel like a tropical vacation instead of a suburban work trip. Just a friendly vibe throughout the hotel, consistent Wi-Fi, and a bright and welcoming experience top to bottom. read more

Very comfortable and clean hotel. They recently did some renovations and remodeling, so while there are parts of the hotel that are older (some of the walls, the elevator) the rest of it looks very updated. Staff are very friendly and welcoming and we had great conversation with some of them. They offer coffee and lemon water in the lobby all the time, and occasionally serve some delicious, warm, soft chocolate chip cookies. The breakfast here is awesome as well - omelettes, pancakes, biscuits, and rotating between bacon, sausage, and canadian bacon. They also serve several different types of cereal and muffins - including Cheerios and chocolate chip muffins, which are my favorite and I haven't always been lucky enough to find at other locations. read more

Cots as requested, rooms were clean. Free breakfast was delicious! Courtney, at the front desk was an absolute pleasure. Quite dated, probably 40 years old. Rooms are small and the the place needs a tear-down or a severe remodel. The side of the hotel facing Woodward Avenue gets traffic noise, mostly because the windows are old and don't seal well. Staff is friendly and helpful. Breakfast room is crowded and noisy at times. I stayed here last week as I was on a business trip and I wanted to share my story. I was starting a new job, and as such brought an heirloom I always keep close to me when I need a little bit of extra luck, my dad's Vietnam dog tag. The hotel it self was under renovation so there was a lot that could have been improved. The service and staff on the other hand needed no such improvement, they were great. You see, I left my dad's dog tag in the room after I flew back to So. Cal. I was literally in the terminal when I called the Holiday Inn Express and talked to Alison Roberts. She promptly went and searched my departed room immediately after taking my phone called, and called me back 2 minutes later to explain that she had found the tag. She asked for my address, and shipped it out that day. I received the dog tag today, and I couldn't be more relieved. Alison, thank you! I really do hope you read this, as this is one of if not the only prize possession I have, and I owe its safety to you. read more

Meh, it is a Holiday Inn. Overall the experience was as-expected. Middle of the road. I knew what I was getting... A three. No complaints about the staff, everyone I met was friendly and helpful. Fun actually. So, if the hotel was a solid "three" and staff were above average, why the two-star rating? One word: Internet. The network was 100% useless for all three of us, in different rooms on three different floors. So, it wasn't my devices or my co-worker's devices or our other co-worker's devices. Nor was it a particular, room, floor or access point. We needed to work in the evenings and were unable the entire week. Surely this isn't catching the management by surprise, I'm positive this is a common critique and they've heard it all before. Get your poop in a group and fix the obvious to get that coveted three out of five star rating. read more

I lived in Birmingham for 40 years. Moved away and came for a visit and stayed here in the middle of the pandemic. I would not stay again and would not recommend it unless they do some serious updating. The rooms were not only dated...I don't care about that... but they were tired and sorely in need of renovation. Wallpaper was peeling, the tub had dirt stains, carpets were worn and all in all it was a little creepy in this time of Covid. The only thing going for it is its close proximity to downtown Birmingham. Next time I will stay in Troy or Southfield. I thought holiday inn would be reliable but this place is definitely neglected. I NEVER leave reviews, especially negative ones, but I've felt compelled to write this one. This hotel staff is amazing. Elaine, Candase, Shane, Randy and manager Terri. HOWEVER...it's absolutely disgusting. First thing that happened was that I "lost" my deceased mothers ring that I know where it is at all times. I left it by the tv. A housekeeper was right outside the room when we left, so I'm a little suspicious. I tore the room apart. 3 times and also my own things 3 times. It doesn't make sense. When tearing the room apart I realized just how filthy the room was.under the side table looked like crack rocks. Also, the bathroom was disgusting, and while looking for my ring .The power went out so we were moved to a new room. Which is fine. But what I found made me sick.I opened the side table drawer to see if anything was left before we left, and I'm not joking there were condom wrappers, lube and a few used condoms. The prices are very competitive and the location is convenient for anyone needing to visit various automotive companies (something closer to I696 would be better, but this is the best available option). The rooms are clean and comfortable. I've heard that the lower-cost rooms are a bit out of date and dingy, so it might be worth spending a few extra dollars for the upgraded room. Free parking. It's walkable to downtown Birmingham shops and restaurants (if that's your thing). Hunter House sliders is more my style. read more

So the hotel is ok. Staff is pretty friendly. Messed up two of the three bills in our party. If we had not brought it to their attention, they would have made $400 off the two of us. As a Spire Elite member I expect better than I got. I was not recognized initially as this status. I had to request my free upgrade, when I should have gotten it automatically. The cookies at night are awesome! My TV remote never worked right. The channel button never worked. Tried 4 remotes over 2 nights and never got one to work. I lived, but should not have happened. The shower was a bit odd. I am 5' 11" and shower was at my shoulder level. I had to bend down to get the water over my shoulders and squat for my head. Not cool. The Cable on the TV kept going out every few minutes for about 10 seconds. Very strange. Kept happening all night every night. Breakfast was awesome as always and the staff was good. You do need to check out the stairway across from the elevator. Worth a quick trip down. I posted pictures of it. All Detroit stuff, but cool none the less. First of all - this place freezes accounts when you put a credit card down. Be aware of that because I know some places can do that but the help here doesn't communicate that well. The service was the worst part. Awful really. The girl working talked to her friend who was there most of the night. Good work ethic. Contradicting on many issues via the phone and front desk before and after our stay. The account that was frozen ended up being charged when we gave them another card to charge at check out. Great location if you are staying in Oakland county. Hotel is right in the heart of Birmingham.Samantha " Sam " at the front desk is a real SUPER STAR! She really gets to know her guests so that she can accommodate their needs and offer you a great experience. She went beyond to make sure we didn't need for a thing. Weather it was printing out coppies of some great restaurants in the area and slipping them under our door, or simply a friendly " good morning " she offered a level of service you just don't see nowadays. When visiting the area again we will surely be staying at this establishment. read more

I had confirmed reservations 8 months in advance. When I arrived I was told that they had overbooked and that my room was downgraded from the executive level to a handicapped equipped room. My husband and I came out of state for a wedding that was held nearby. We got a room for 2 days on the weekend. The second night after the wedding we went back to our room and noticed that the hallways to our room were very warm. When we got to our room we noticed that the A/C had not been working. The room stayed in the 80's all night. The night manager told us that they have been having issues with the new A/C's that were installed. He was very sorry, but was unable to put us in another room (he had already relocated other tenants). We left extra early (3am because we couldn't sleep) and left for the airport. I have called every single day to talk to a manager about this, because I don't feel that we should have to pay for the room on the second night or at least get some reimbursed. I've left messages and voicemails. Today I was told that the manager who can help us out works from 8-3, this means that every time that I've called she was on duty! Now I won't be able to hear something back until Monday when she comes back in. This is really poor management. I already received the bill on my credit card, but this is absolutely ridiculous. I would not recommend this hotel to any of my friends. read more

Unfortunately, the fire alarms at this property are set off by a small amount of steam and are poorly located immediately outside of the bathroom. When you take a hot shower, the fire alarms go off. It truly is ridiculous. I heard other guests' fire alarms going off as well! My fire alarm went off for 20 minutes while staff kept trying to turn it off remotely. I was told by management that this is a known issue and that they are "working on it". However, looking at prior reviews of the property, it looks like this has been going on for a while, and nothing has been done to remedy the situation. There are no fans in the bathroom. While one window does open, it does not enable enough air circulation to remedy the situation. Had I known about this issue, I doubt I would have stayed here. The hotel overall seemed dingy and overpriced for what you get. The location was nice, however, and it is easy an easy walk from the property to downtown Birmingham. read more
