This is an older hotel but clean and in good condition. My room was very clean and well arranged. Breakfast was very good and the breakfast hostess was working hard. She was really busy keeping all the food refilled and the food area and dining tables clean. Doing a great job and very pleasant as well. The pool looked nice and very clean. We were out in Frankenmuth, Michigan to visit all the holiday stores there ... and it was so busy we had to stay just out of the downtown in a little area called Birch Run ... sort of like a suburb of Frankenmuth. Located just 5 or 10 miles from Frankenmuth, this was ideal and just minutes away. This was a newish Holiday Inn Express and was just fine for our purposes. The front desk greeted us warmly when we arrived, checked us in with no hitches, and we were all set. The place was reasonably clean, the lobby area pretty small but sufficient, and they had a nice pool for anyone looking for that. The next morning we patronized the little breakfast room and the food items they offered were just perfect. The staff operating the breakfast room replenished the foods regularly, making for fresh and hot choices. The prices here are more family friendly than those in the Frankenmuth downtown area. The bedding was nice and the beds were perfectly adequate for a short visit. Nice experience here, and we'd not hesitate to stay again when we return. read more

With rare exception, the staff appeared to have little interest in customer experience. We paid 20%+ extra to stay at what we perceived would be the best lodging in the area and were deeply disappointed. No service of room for the 4 days we stayed--even after we requested it. The staff unanimously asked if the "do not disturb" sign was on the door (so, our fault) ; it wasn't. Even though very disappointed, we maintained a polite and friendly attitude. Our final event was with front desk person and manager, blaming them making excuses for the inattention and failure to meet basic expectations. Save the money--stay somewhere else. We stood at Holiday Inn for 3 nights and were in town for a wedding. Our flight landed late and we made it to the hotel at 1:30 in the morning. I had been in contact with the hostess at the front desk previously and she told us not to worry she would be there to check us in. Customer service was amazing, from front desk, to hospitality making our breakfast, and down to our hard working ladies that tidied up our room. Yes, the hotel is basic and a bit old, but it is clean and very presentable. Our breakfast every morning was made with care and the food area was always clean. The date and I wanted to spend the night up here and visit Frankenmuth and have fun times so we looked into a hotel in the area that wasn't 10 zillion dollars and close to everything we needed. Most of the hotels in this area (Birch Run & Frankenmuth) tend to be super expensive during the summer months due to its popularity and closeness to many different activities. While this place wasn't cheap, it really was a fabulous stay and had all the amenities that we wanted and needed for our stay. For starters, the properties clean and easy to find, at the corner of Dixie Hwy about a mile off I-75. Just far enough away (maybe 2 miles) to birch run, it was easy in and easy out with traffic and such. (birch run can be crazy busy at times.) Walking in the lobby was clean and decently decorated with modern amenities. Check in was simple and quick and staff was friendly and helpful. We were put in room 209 with 2 queen beds, a fridge and a microwave with a nice big bathroom. Tons of space to move around with really cool features to make it feel modern. Clean comfy beds with tons of pillows, fancy lamps and lots of space to put your stuff down and not trip over it. The bathroom was stocked with towels, washcloths and tons of toilet paper and was in really good shape. But here's where they lost a star and even though it's not a huge deal, it was annoying none the less. I don't know if was on purpose or not, but the bathroom door kept automatically shutting all by itself. A very minor inconvenience, but still a pain in the butt. I kept trying to prop the door open after I had showered to let some of the steam out and it would NOT stay open. Fortunately, there was a bag with a hair dryer in it and I used the strings from the bag to hold it open on one of the towel hooks they had on the wall. It got annoying after a while because when I was in and out getting dressed, I kept having to prop it back open. UGH. But the winning measure of the whole stay? THE HUGE BREAKFAST SPREAD! Holy goodness was it fabulous. They had two types of omelets, biscuits and gravy, cereal, waffles, oatmeal, pork (I don't eat pork) and TONS of other food. The staff was really good about keeping it stocked and moving with food when it would run out. They also have a fabulous coffee and tea station off to the side which we abused along with the kruieg from our room. The date loved it and it was a great way to start the day with the variety and options presented to us. They also have tons of seating to eat at in the lobby area which we loved so we didn't have to treck back and forth with food in the elevator. It was almost like a mini cafeteria! We definitely loved this the mostest! They also have a pool with a large hot tub which both are indoors and quite large. I think you have to use your room towels to dry off with but the desk said they can give you fresh ones when you leave. We didn't swim because we were so tired, but would have if we didn't have so much fun in Frankenmuth. In the lobby area they also have drinks available (pop, juice and water) for a reasonable price. Pop and juice $2, larger waters were $3. They also have vending machines near the elevators if you need a pop for the same price but don't want to walk downstairs. As far as Holiday Inn Express locations go, this one is newer and in fairly good shape inside. Room was clean and had good amenities; the bathroom was a little small and some of the paint was peeling a little, but nothing too bad. Free breakfast is a nice touch; I went during a busy time so food was a little picked through but they did try to restock quickly, and they had a good variety of food. During festivals there is a free shuttle to Frankenmuth across the street which was convenient. There is a restaurant and a KFC in walking distance, and plenty more options a short drive across the freeway. Overall, a decent place to stay. read more

Great location and very friendly staff. Breakfast was your typical fanfare of eggs, meat, muffins/bread. They did have an automatic pancake maker which was awesome, and their biscuits and gravy were good. They also had plenty of seating for breakfast so we didn't have to wait around for a table. The pool was a nice temperature and the hot tub was relaxing. The rooms were a good size and the beds were very soft and comfortable though they are high off the ground. For anyone shorter than 5'8 be prepared to literally climb into bed. The room has a desk, wardrobe, chase, and nice seating area by the tv. The bathroom was large and has a heat lamp for when you get out of the shower. The shower was the only downfall for us. It had great shower pressure but the different setting were horrible and the tub drained very slowly. We also had problems with water coming out of the shower and slightly flooding the floor. You can see that they've had water issues previously. Not a deal breaker though as everything else makes up for it. Despite the shower we would still visit here again. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed here earlier this month. We didn't plan on staying overnight but decided to on a whim and with lots of activities going on in the Birch Run/Frankenkuth area, we had one of the last rooms available. The hotel was recently updated and looked really up to date and more trendy. Our room smelled fresh with new furniture. Check In was easy and simple (we booked on booking.com) The free breakfast was pretty good. Wish there was more of a flow in the breakfast area. Everyone was kind of in everyone's way trying to get food. With that being said there was a lot of options: hot foods, fruit, pastries, yogurt, cinnamon rolls etc. Lot of options. There's always a 24 hour "store" where you can buy drinks and snacks and other must haves for traveling. The only two issues we had was the walls are incredibly thin. Someone sneezed in the hallway and we said "bless you!" The person heard us and said "thank you!" There was a travel baseball team staying when we were there and we could hear all the rowdy kids. Second issue was the pillows were way too soft for our liking. Didn't use the pool, hot tub or fitness area. read more

Great location, easy to get to, and get to the places you need to go. Interaction with staff was limited but they were pleasant. The pool area and hot tub was very very noisy nearly impossible to be in the room with the drunk parents and kids playing softball with a beachball and a bat. The rooms were clean as expected. If you like to sleep in the tropics this is the place for you. I prefer it to be a bit cooler than 75 in the room. The energy-efficient thermostat will see to it you don't get cool. If you turn it on it will turn off in a few short minutes. It was a terrible night's sleep. That alone unfortunately will prevent me from staying here again. read more

Nice and clean Holiday Inn. With a good size pool and hot tub. Small, but effective workout room. Breakfast was better than most I have been to. They had the typical pastries, toast, cereal. However I am a "healthy eater" and like to keep my food clean. They had plain oatmeal, turkey sausage, and egg white/veggie omelettes. I appreciated that they gave some healthy choices. This location also accepts pets too (I didn't bring any though). They only bad comment I have is that they need to remove a compound TuffStuff cable machine in the workout room. It's not working properly and just is taking up space. I will definitely be back to this location next visit to our Grandparents! read more

I normally have a decent experience with Holiday Inn Express hotels. This time I was not very impressed. I do appreciate a nice clean hotel, but I am not above going to a lower end hotel as long as it is clean and kept up. There was only one room left and it was 8:45pm so I didn't want to drive around looking for other options. The room rate was $200 for a 2 queen bed room. This price is ridiculous for what we got. The lobby was just ok. Nothing special. The girl at the front desk was nice, but not exactly warm and welcoming. I would not stay here again, but it was sufficient for just one night. Conveniently located near Birch Run Prime Outlets, lots of places to eat (including the famous Tony's I75) and just miles from Frankenmuth, MI! CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST Very nice area & clean! Includes many items to choose from toast, bagels, cereal, waffles, pancakes, fruit, scrambled eggs, bacon, and the list goes on! various beverages available too. I do wish they serve breakfast a little earlier (we have kids that get up pretty early and are starving!). THE AMENITIES Indoor Pool with hot tub (very heavily chemicals so do take note!) Because of my job, I've had the distinct pleasure of staying at nearly hotel in the Birch Run area and I must say that this is my current favorite. The staff is friendly and helpful, the rooms are very clean, and the price is comparable to, and sometimes less expensive than, other similar properties in the area. I've also visited many HI Express properties in my travels and this one has perhaps one of the best breakfasts that I have seen. It has a full variety, it's well stocked, very well attended, and there was plenty of seating even on a busy Sunday morning. I'll definitely book here again for my next stay in the area. read more

Standard Holiday Inn Express. Door we came thru needed repair - slammed shut on daughter, and once she stopped blocking it, it slammed shut with a huge bang at midnight... not so great. Breakfast setup was poorly thought out. It's up to high so anyone below 5'4" probably has a hard time getting anything to eat. They had forks, knives etc., right beside toaster - so people waiting for toaster items make it impossible to get at cutlery/napkins. Toast condiments are kind of around corner - so you can't figure out where they are. (Hint: switch cutlery for condiments in positiioning!). No waffles, which I always look for on these buffets - they are almost a given now-a-days and I love them. Disappointing. It took two people to get at the sausages - ridiculous. Overall - it was fine. It met the need - we needed to sleep. Would I recommend? Check the pricing and shop around. You may be able to get more for close to the same price. Would I return? Depends on need and pricing. If all I'm doing in sleeping and they have the best rate, I'll go there. read more

Solid 4. Nice, spacious room. Huge mini fridge, microwave, Kuerig for those coffee addicts. Best of all clean! One of the cleanest hotels I think I have ever stayed in. Convenient to I 75 and everything we were in Michigan for. The only down side were the kids in the hall yelling, running, pounding on doors. They have a "strict" quiet time starting at 10. This noise started at 10 and went on until 1130-ish before I had enough and called the front desk. It stopped after that. I get you are kids and all wound up but where are the parents or chaperones or whoever that were letting these kids be as loud as they wanted. Some people can be inconsiderate. So, long story short the walls are not as thick as they could be. Overall, solid. read more

We were spending a day in Frankenmuth and chose this location because it was more affordable and had vacancies. The low rating made me nervous but we ended up being quite pleased with our stay. The building is new and everything was clean. I used the pool, hot tub, and fitness room. Breakfast was good and two people were always overseeing it. At night it was quiet and we couldn't hear the Highway. The hotel is a mile away from the outlet mall! I highly recommend staying here. read more

I stay in a Holiday Inn Express in Michigan at least once per week, ended up in this one because the other one I was in lost power at 10 PM due to some accident. The front desk was nice but a bit inexperienced, the breakfast area was pretty glamorous, and the room was quiet, comfortable, and clean. I slept well The downside is that the fitness room is really sad with broken old equipment, room actually smelled like dirty socks, not even an elliptical and it is the size if large bathroom. The hallways are dated and kind of stink like cigarettes and body odor. And parking kind of sux. Wasn't a bad experience, just didn't shine like a Holiday Inn Express should. Knowing what I know about other Holiday Inn locations within 20 miles of here I would probably choose one of the others and avoid this location. read more

We've stayed here 3 times before, and just today I booked another stay for my mom and I next week (22nd-24th), for her birthday. We haven't been in over a year now, last time we stayed the whole place was in the middle of a remodel and the entire first floor, and a small section of every other floor, was under construction. There was stuff everywhere! But there were plenty of signs and safety measures though. I only bring it up because despite ALL of that, and the noise and the mess, it was TOTALLY and COMPLETELY worth the money and the effort. We absolutely love this place! And their concierge/customer service is always tops. My mom and I have sort of made it a tradition now to come here 2 times a year, for each of our birthdays, and do the whole Frankenmuth/birch run deal. It's like a mini vacation. We don't live but maybe an hour away but it's so worth the little relaxing getaway we get coming here. The pool and hot tub are just so nice and you can use them year round, no matter the weather which is a real bonus for us, and the newer rooms are just FANTASTIC, I can't say enough wonderful things about those beds!! The hotel is right of 75, and only a few minutes from basically everything. There's even a meijer basically walking distance. And a movie theater. It's very convenient. I can't wait to go next week and see how nice every thing is after all that construction. We usually only go for one night, but this time we are doing 2 since we always wish we had another night once we get there. Just too much to do in one day. I'll make sure to update this review after our stay next week (5/22-5/24) and update about the new look of the place since all the construction. I'm really hoping it lives up to my memories...and I'm also really hoping we can get a top floor room this time however because we're both light sleepers and no matter where we stay, it never fails that there is someone stompy above us each time... This place has gone downhill due to poor management. Renovations have been ongoing inside & out for months now but no discounted room rate for the inconvenience. Workers, equipment, & materials scattered about in the parking lot & inside. The newly decorated rooms have toilets so low they are child height. They don't meet the Comfort Height for Americans with Disabilities Act of 17 to 19" by a long shot. The beds are as high as the toilets are low so here again an accessible issue unless you are very mobile. The work quality is very poor with many touch up required to improve the overall looks. The breakfast area has changed where the food is & is more crowded now. The juice machine waters down the juice & the eggs, turkey sausage, bacon, omelettes were cold & hard. Some days there were shortages of milk, yogurt, buns. Etc. We had a bag of new clothes stolen from our room during the day even though they took the tip but didn't make up the room. There were 5 rooms that day left unmade by housekeeping that we found out about. After some time arguing with the General Manager he credited us with 1 nights stay for the value of the clothes but refused to compensate for invasion of personal privacy & lack of security, never mind driving back to Saginaw to repurchase the stolen articles. There are no hallway security cameras & the GM hides behind an obscure Michigan State Statute that protects the innkeepers against liability. Good luck finding a copy as it is in very small print on the back of the rooms door beneath the emergency exit procedure. After complaining to IHG Customer Service he sent an email full of inaccurate excuses & an offer of a underwhelming 20% discount on our next stay. Do yourself a favour & drive 10 minutes into Frankenmuth & stay at the fairly new HIE there with good reviews. It has been over 3 weeks since we stayed here & if you take the time to read more reviews in TripAdvisor about this property you will continue to see bad reviews on work supposably to have been completed by now according to KK the genera manager. Holiday inn express, has some great two room suites up stairs away from the front desk and pool. Any room on the same floor as the desk and pool has so much noise from the kids running and screaming in the hall plus people getting in for the night (doors slamming,people marching up the stairs) forget sleeping. The breakfast is good for adults but not so kid friendly. The rooms on the lower level sometimes have ants in the summer. The pool is too small for both adults and kids. But if you have a jet tub in your room you won't use it anyway. The rooms are average in cleanliness. Some of the beds need replacement as they are not so comfy. But like in all hotels the more you spend on the room the better it is. The photos that are now posted are of one of the most expensive rooms. We love Holiday inn express. read more

Initially, I was disappointed to discover there were no luxury hotels in Birch Run. I travel often, and have learned the hard way that staying at a budget hotel is akin to camping, which I don't do. With no better option, I opted to stay at the Holiday Inn Express. I was pleasantly surprised with the size of the room, it's amenities, and most importantly, the the room's cleanliness. The room was kept at a nice, chilly temperature, which was welcomed on a balmy 90 degree day. The crisp linens smelled of fresh laundry and the pillows were labeled 'soft' and 'firm.' Most importantly, the staff was considerate and accommodating. I ordered takeout at a restaurant nearby and wasn't given napkins, cutlery or anything one would need. The front desk clerk brought all the items the restaurant should have included and also suggested a new restaurant as an alternative, since there isn't much in the way of decent food in the area. The hallways were considerably hot and humid and the walls are thin, so you can hear the people around and above you a little too clearly. If you're looking for a family friendly hotel, this is it. However, if you don't want other people's children infringing upon your holiday, definitely book elsewhere. read more

They're remodeling but overcharging for an unfinished room. Very clean with new carpeting, etc but would like it chat with the designer who put the toilet paper holder out of reach of a person using the commode!!! Pool and hot tub close at 10:00 pm on the weekend, a dozen unhappy guests were kicked out of the pool area at 10 last nite..tactfully tho! Staff was friendly...we'll look for somewhere else to stay next time in the area..they had an old mattress that didn't even fit the new box springs thrown on the bed, my wife didn't sleep well due to the springs poking her in the back. Took 20 minutes with the tech support to connect one of our devices to wifi, gave up trying to connect the others...we didn't have any trouble connecting at other chains the night before or after. When we complained about the conditions of the room the next morning we were told "yes, we're aware the mattress needs to be changed". (!!!) when we noted the TP was out of reach of the commode, the desk girl responded with "now THERE'S one I haven't heard before" and obvious didn't really give a sh*t. Seriously this is the worst stay I've EVER had at a Holiday Inn and will make us think twice about staying at any of their hotels in the future read more

This hotel has potential but was very disappointing. The hotel is under construction still being remodeled. We entered the hotel which has a really nice lobby and friendly staff. We got our room keys which only worked once after that it wouldn't work again we couldn't get in our room. You could tell that there was a lot of dust in the lock. A nice maintenance guy came up and cleaned the lock and no more problems which was great. Our room however was incomplete from its remodel there were holes in the dry wall which were very minor and trim missing. That didn't bother me much knowing they are in process of renovations. The rooms are really nice with very nice lighting. Later in the evening we decided to warm up our food in the microwave in our room. 5 seconds in and the whole room lost power. We called the front desk and made us move to another room across the hall. I was going to wait until tomorrow after we check out to write the review but the new room wasn't much better. We got in the new room which all renovations were completed. However now our refrigerator doesn't work to keep our food cold. All very disappointing for a hotel that is newly renovated. If I was them I would call the electrical contractor that decided to throw everything on the same circuit because the hotel says this is known issue right now. This was our last stop on our honeymoon before heading home and has been the worse experience by far especially for the price considering the rooms are incomplete. I hope after the Reno's are done they get better I would stay away another couple months until all Reno's are completed. read more
