This is for all you Mid-Century Modern lovers out there. The Kaufmann name came from Edgar J. Kaufmann he was a Pittsburgh Department Store Tycoon. He wanted a retreat from the harsh winters back east. The Architect is Richard Neutra this is by far one of his famous works to date. He designed the house in 1946. There is no tours of this house. In fact it is private. You will see a no trespassing sign with armed alert. So whatever you do take pictures outside of the property. I cannot put other website links on this site. It is a very walkable town with plenty of parking lots to handle the January through March crowds. I am looking forward to another eventul Modernism week in February. All my favorite restaurants are locatated in downtown, like Farm, Cheeky's, Wilma and Frieda, Al Dente, 849, and Tropicale to name a few, with so many more like Bongo Johnny's and Broken Yolk. Kids were bored because they don't have a lot of booths that sells kids items, but that's ok! There's an admission fee, payable at the Visitor Center, which is well worth it for a sparkling clean and well-maintained trail (not even gonna talk about reparations but come on, let's do it, this fee is nothing in the overall picture.) Thanks to tropical storm Hilary and a rainier than usual winter/spring, the waterfall was incredible on my most recent visit. It's permitted to swim in the naturally formed pool underneath and swim people did, under the sycamores in a lovely shady area. The hike up can be a bit strenuous depending on the heat and the humidity; it is required to take at least two liters of water with you for the 2 mile round trip hike. Parking free in the lot. Highly suggested to visit as early as possible.

From La Quinta it's a good one hour + drive but definitely worth it! If your staying in Palm Springs proper or Joshua Tree much closer, regardless though worth it! Integratron essentially is a sound bath experience but in one of the coolest and best acoustic domes. I'll let the staff give you the history but it was very cool about learning how this place came to be and the intention behind it and land the dome sits on. This is a family owned business which makes it even more special. Three sisters own it and all of the family helps to run this space one way or another. On the day we came different cousins were sharing the duties. Love a local family run and operated space! Before starting the sound bath it's nice to explore the grounds, relax and they even have a gift shop. Nice bathrooms and plenty of parking. The system here is organized and seamless. Very great communication and guidance here. Make sure to pay attention to your emails before you come because they give great tips - like to bring blankets, dress in layers etc. As others have shared. The first 15-30 minutes is essentially going over rules, tips and history before they get started with the meditation/sound bath. I appreciate that they take everyone safety seriously and want everyone to have a joyful experience so they make sure to talk you through the do's and donts. The sound bath itself was relaxing and very soothing. The cushioned mats were premium and much nicer than I had remembered in the past. Very comfortable and nice temperature inside the dome. My only wish is that the sound bath piece was slightly longer but all in all it's a relaxing and unique experience. Would highly recommend that everyone come at least once.

We finally went for my wife's birthday, so we came in really excited. First, the positives: the structure itself is incredible and the staff is genuinely kind. It's a family-run operation and you can feel that in a good way. But the actual experience? Rough. Within minutes of the sound bath starting, people were snoring. Not one person... a lot of people. Loudly. Full-on, out-cold snoring. The entire group of seniors next to us. Then the ladies on the other side of us. Add in constant fidgeting and movement, and it completely killed any chance of relaxing or getting immersed in the sound. It made it nearly impossible to relax or focus on the sound bath. The sound bath session itself felt surprisingly short, maybe 25 mins tops. It seemed like more time was spent waiting and going through instructions than actually experiencing the sound bath. The bowls were also not very loud, which made it even harder to tune out the distractions. In other sound baths we've attended, the instruments are more immersive, sometimes even amplified, which helps create a deeper experience. The final portion of the session transitioned into music played from an iPad, which felt a bit underwhelming and took away from the overall atmosphere. For the price (over $120 for two), it just didn't deliver. We left pretty disappointed after years of looking forward to it. Honestly, if you're someone who snores or can't stay still, this might not be the place for you because it really affects everyone else. And it would go a long way if staff actively managed that during the session. Cool place, great people, but not an experience we'd do again.

You can tell because there's a large yellow banner over his windshield that says "BONSAI." He told us the ages of all the trees he has. Some are as old as 15 years old! You ever heard that Chinese proverb that says the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago (the second best time being now)? Well this guy heeded that advice. He planted all these little trees years ago and now finally getting some dividend! We bought two that are about 7 years old. The price is dependent on the age. He gave us a deal for getting more than one, albeit reluctantly. He asked my husband if he was oriental when I was out of earshot, and said I must've picked him because he looked Asian. (He's not, but he is perhaps correct about the other point.) I couldn't really understand his instructions for caring for them, other than "put rain on it." I'll have to Google actual instructions. But I'm really glad we picked up bonsai trees from this bonsai guy. I'll remember him for as long as I can keep our trees alive!

GET THERE EARLY FOR TICKETS! the entrance to the park is about 3 miles from the main drag. there are several parking areas, and shuttles that take the people. the lobby area was super packed for our spring break trip. lots of people in line for tickets as well as milling around waiting for their scheduled times. the outdoor area has open space for waiting as well. there are tables and chairs and shaded areas. i can only imagine how hot this area is in the summers. we had to wait about and hour for our schedule. luckily, they sell beers. the ride up takes about 10mins. plenty of opportunity to see the views out the windows, if you're into that. not me. it got a little shaky and nerve wracking. very different temps up top. probably a good 20-30 degrees cooler than down below. plan on bringing a coat or sweater. there are food and drink options up in the observation area as well as AMAZING views of the San Jacinto mountains and Coachella valley. the ride down seemed shakier, but, manageable. overall, i highly recommend, even for those of us with elevation phobias.
