I asked on the sundae if it could be made without the strawberry or pineapple topping and all the girl on the other end of the mic kept saying was "anything else?" Over and over. Like well first can you confirm my order and my special request. Then unless my eyes deceived me it said I could choose the flavor of ice and cream on the sundae but was never asked what my preference for that was, so I'm assuming y'all were just gonna give me whatever? They had me pull to the window and I sat there for a good couple minutes without anyone bothering to get my preference in regards to the flavors, well if they're taking their time to get to the window I'm assuming they're preparing the food, but quite bold of them to prepare something without knowing what I wanted. All in all one of the worst experiences I've personally had at a small stand and I will definitely not be returning for any reason. All I can say is, Mr. Snow, Do Better.

As we wandered around Heritage Homestead, we eventually stumbled upon the Homestead Tea House and…read moreGritsmill, both conveniently located in the same building. The moment you step through the door, it's as if you've been transported back in time to a simpler era where life moved a little slower and everything was made with care. Side note: I completely regret not getting the names of the two young ladies working in the Tea House and the gentleman operating the Gritsmill. Rookie mistake on my part. But I digress. While chatting with the young ladies, they shared some fascinating history about the mill. They told me the gristmill itself was transported all the way from New Jersey to its current home. Even more impressive, the millstone still being used today to grind wheat into flour is over 200 years old and came from France. Talk about a piece of living history! The store itself is spotless, neatly organized, and exceptionally well maintained. The two young ladies were friendly, welcoming, and eager to answer questions and help however they could. Now for the important stuff--the goodies. They make their own cookies, including oatmeal and chocolate chip, along with fresh scones and pastries. Naturally, I exercised great self-control and bought one of each to enjoy later with a cup of coffee. It seemed like the responsible thing to do. From the Gritsmill, we picked up two bags of grits, some scone flour, and a small jar of peanut butter. Unfortunately, we were still stuffed from lunch and couldn't do the Tea House justice by enjoying a cup of tea. Sometimes life presents difficult challenges. Needless to say, we'll be returning, and I can hardly wait. If you find yourself at Heritage Homestead, be sure to stop by the Tea House and Gritsmill. Who knows, maybe I'll see you there.

Under new ownership. Use to be Luna Juice Bar…read more I came into this café not knowing what to expect. Honestly, I braced myself for subpar, overpriced "health food." What I found instead was something completely different, a thoughtfully crafted menu built with a love not only for fresh, local ingredients but also for the kind of creative flavor combinations that make you want to savor every bite. I ordered the tacos, and they were outstanding, super filling, bright, and fresh. The green salsa deserves special mention: full of flavor, balanced, and not too spicy, the kind of condiment you want on everything. On the side, I had a pour-over coffee served at the perfect temperature, smooth and complex enough that it didn't need sugar or cream. It arrived on a beautiful serving dish alongside a crumbly, moist slice of coffee cake that felt just right with the atmosphere. Speaking of the atmosphere: it's warm, cozy, and intentional. Soft folk music plays gently in the background while tons of natural light pour in from large windows. Each table has fresh-cut flowers, the space is impeccably clean, and natural materials give it a grounded, organic feel. The dining area is small and intimate, wonderful for now, but I could see them needing to expand if word gets out. It's a family friendly space too. Moms, dads, kids, and even toddlers have activities to keep them engaged, while students and professionals can easily enjoy the natural light, clean eating, and good vibes for studying or unwinding. The AC was set to a perfect temperature (the fan was off, but honestly, the airflow felt ideal) making it equally enjoyable for a warm meal or something refreshing and cool. Service was quick, warm, and friendly the kind that makes you feel like the staff actually care about the food and about you as a guest. The fact that they source ingredients locally and support community suppliers just reinforces how counter cultural this café feels: not fast food, not processed, not industrial. Instead, it's a dream of what dining could be slow, thoughtful, and nourishing. If I could sum it up in a few words: warm, cozy, family oriented, community-based. This place is everything one could hope for. I could happily eat here several times a week. More than just a café, it feels like a promise to Waco: that we can become a little more Luna slowing down, choosing peace and quality over fast, cheap, and unhealthy.
