Holder Hill Farm - Lake it's just so beautiful - Pumpkin Patches Near Me - Durham, North Carolina

This is one of our go to fall farms to visit! There's so much to do and it's spread out so it never feels too crowded. This time we went on a Sunday morning and stayed for almost 4 hours. We brought lunch with us and ate at the picnic tables under the giant tent. Everything is included in the admission price - hayride, animal feed, corn maze, corn crib, play areas, and even the opportunity to pick your own pumpkin! read more

Greta place, when with my girlfriend she had fun. Love the corn out even though I may be a little older, the cows and pigs are super cute and I got a pumpkin out of the visit, worth the money, great people, and I do plan to come again. read more

We took our school last fall and had a great time! The water pump area that the children used to propel small boats, the goats, the massive corn box filled with corn kernels, the climbing area with hay bales were so fun! (One thing I would recommend is bringing 2 water bottles for each child.) read more

Absolutely loved our time here. We have two teens who were quite reluctant to go to a pumpkin patch cuz apparently it's uncool to be seen with your parents at a pumpkin farm. But this place was absolutely perfect for the whole family. Heck, we'd go here just for a date for two adults. The hayride was fun. The corn maze was cool. We absolutely loved feeding and petting the goats. The baby pigs were absolutely adorable. The walk through the "haunted" woods was cute, and we all tried to lasso the cows which was hilarious. I could see other families enjoying themselves in the corn pit and the slides (which we didn't do but still looked fun). We bought some jam on the way out and it's delicious. The cost for admission included a pumpkin for each of us. We've been to other places - Hillridge and Page and those are fine but Holders is our absolute new favorite! read more

Amazing farm! There is so much to do and all the staff are really nice. 100% recommend

This is our favorite pumpkin patch. Everyone is very friendly. There is a large assortment of activities beyond just picking a pumpkin. (Hay ride, corn maze, corn crib, feeding farm animals, milking a fake cow, playgrounds, photo stand-ins, etc) The price is very reasonable considering all it includes. My kids favor the corn crib. You can easily spend a whole afternoon here! read more

I've been to Holder Hill 4x - each visit was OK (nothing special but nothing terrible) except this last visit. We went with our 2 year old last week. The staff gave us the usual rundown of what the farm included and did not mention the hayride was down. Once we paid and walked in, it didn't seem like the hayride was running so we went back to the staff and asked and they said "it's not running today". I understand it had rained and it's okay the hayride wasn't running...it's not okay they didn't disclose that a major "attraction" was not up before we paid $48 for 3 people to enter. My son was most excited about the hayride so I would've liked the option to decide if we were going to go in or not given that the hayride was down. The farm is quite large and parts of it are very far / hard to get to without the hayride. I reached out to Holder Hill directly to request a partial refund and was told their staff usually does share of hayride isn't running and they must've been busy or distracted or something but no refund would be processed. Just feels like it lacks integrity. Would not recommend. read more

Is there an entrance fee? Yes Should you still go? YES! I'm so happy we went to Holder Hill Farm. The entrance seemed steep at first at $15/person over the age of 2, but it was so worth it. My toddler (let's not kid ourselves even the adults did too!) LOVED the corn pit. It was the hit of the entire group that we went with. There were slides and hay rides and a corn maze. I wish we had more time there. (Poor planning on my part) You even get to pick your own pumpkin out of the patch to take home. They also gave us a small bag of feed to give to the farm animals. There were cows, pigs, chickens, and a bunny rabbit. I'm sure we'll go again next year and plan accordingly to stay longer. We didn't get to enjoy all that this farm offers but the stuff we did partake it make it worth it! read more

I intended to visit with my four kids ages 7y, 4y, and 2.5y twins; however we left without entering. I didn't realize before arrival that the entrance fee was $16/person, including two year old kids. The total fee for me and my four kids would have been $80, not even including tax. If my husband had been with us, our family would have had to pay $100 to enter. That was beyond the scope of reason. The entrance fee does include a pumpkin, with many medium-large pumpkins selling for around $10 if purchased a la carte. However, my family doesn't need five or six pumpkins, particularly when many grocery stores sell pumpkins for $4.50. I understand that a local business may need to sell their pumpkins for higher prices due to smaller volume of sales, and I would be happy to purchase local pumpkins at a premium, such as $8-10 each. But it's reasonable to only want to purchase anywhere from one to a few pumpkins, not to be forced to buy five premium pumpkins (or 6+, if my husband had joined or if we had more kids). A middle class or single-parent family should be able to take their kids to a pumpkin patch without it being considered a luxury activity. It's not Disney World - it's a local farm. They should have the option to select activities/purchases that can bring the price of the visit within their family budget without being forced to buy numerous expensive pumpkins that they may not even want or have space for. I could see charging several dollars for admission fees given the activities, but that's different than having to purchase the admission AND an expensive pumpkin for every person in the group. Plus, the view from the entrance gate was not that festive or impressive. Basically empty fields with some animals in very small fenced in areas. One short-ish tube slide for kids. I've read that there's a corn maze and some other attractions, just saying that the view from the parking lot was rather unimpressive and borderline depressing. We went on a Wednesday and it wasn't crowded - perhaps on a weekend a crowd makes it appear more festive. But the farm seemed to offer very little vibrant energy on its own. We do love places like Spring Haven Farm, Waller Family Farm, Eno River, etc. Spring Haven often charges by the car, so that an entire family can afford to visit. They also offer activities like live music, scavenger hunts, etc. and a seemingly more comfortable environment for their petting animals. This is my first Yelp review in probably years. I was that upset by the experience. I keep thinking about the middle and lower middle class families who just want to bring their kids to a pumpkin patch but can't because of the price. It should be more affordable. read more

Had a sweet morning here with my preschooler. We played on hay bales with slides attached, enjoyed a bounce house, played in a sand kitchen, fed goats, ducks, pigs and cows, and did two hayrides. The price of admission feels steep at $16 per person, but does include a pumpkin. Staff were very friendly. It pays to arrive early as there are almost always field trip groups. Bathrooms are great. I do wish there were a water fountain for filling water bottles! read more

Another year, still impressed my Holder Hill farm. It's a beautiful setting with lots for kids to do, and enough to keep adults without kids entertained too. Great place to enjoy fall activities at an all- inclusive and affordable price, which even includes a pumpkin to take home! read more

I'm also known as Farmer Ganyard. If you're interested in picking your pumpkins from real pumpkin vines I highly recommend Holder Hill Farm in Durham. It's a brand new pumpkin farm owned and operated by Ashley and Jereme Walker. I grew pumpkins in our area for 23 years and believe me I know a good pumpkin patch when I see one. Holder Hill Farm has one of the best pumpkin crops I've ever seen in our area. Literally tons of pumpkins still on the vines, both - beautiful Jack-O-Lantern and Weird and Exotic (sometimes called heirloom). Definitely not picked over. It's also a large farm with lots of open space, a nature trail, corn maze, farm animals, play area, picnic tables, hayrides, and more. I noticed my own family and others were able to roam around very distanced from other family units. The play areas like hay mountain can be a little busy but everyone was wearing a mask. One of the best features is new, clean, spacious, plumbed, indoor bathrooms - men and women separate! No porta-potties on this farm! I've attached pics of the Walker family (the owners), and also from my family's visit. I hope you enjoy your visit as much as we did. holderhillfarmllc.com. 919-605-3818. read more
