When we got there we didn't see the truck, so that was a little bit concerning, but shortly after 8am the bus arrived and the staff started setting up and getting us ready for the lesson. Our instructor was Cat and we were in a group with just one other person. Cat was great at explaining the steps and giving us tips to improve. We got in the water shortly after and Cat started pushing us into our waves. After a few waves, I started getting my own waves and Cat provided a few suggestions for what to do the next time. The only weird thing was that Cat got out of the water with the other guy in the group to show him stuff and was out for longer than I expected. My fiancé definitely needed more assistance than doing it on his own, but he kept trying. When Cat finally did get back in the water, she didn't really start pushing either of us. Despite that, I still thought she was good and thought the value was worth it.

A decent time and thought they would definitely have an instructor. We booked it the night before and they accepted the booking and sent us all the confirmation information. I thought this was a surf school and thus instructors would be available at the times they listed to book. Well the day of the lesson, I get a call an hour and 30min before it was time to start that they did not have an instructor and would have to cancel. I purchased this surf lesson as a gift for my friends who had just arrived and were visiting out of the country. They were already on their way to Santa Monica and I had no way to communicate with them that the lesson was canceled. Upon talking to the woman and pleading with her to have an instructor there for my friends since the lesson was booked she said "sorry, there was no instructor available." She at first told me that they then could go to the 2:00pm slot but then later after I asked about it again she said that the instructor for the 2:00pm had a private so was now not available then. I was freaking out as I would not be able to tell my friends and they would be waiting at the meeting point. I asked if at least someone could go meet them to tell them that it had been canceled and she said "sorry there would be no one there to meet them". What a bad look! I was thoroughly disappointed. They should not allow someone to book a date and time if they don't have an instructor committed to be there. I think they just wing it and if enough people sign up for the lesson and it's worth their time then they'll get an instructor. However, if not enough people sign up for your time slot then they won't have anybody there for you. I did get a refund thank goodness but what poor customer service. I will never be using them again. Thoroughly disappointed at this experience. What should've been a fun surf day turned into a disappointment.

Both of my girls got up on their boards their very first time surfing. They didn't even want to come in when the lesson was over even though it was pouring down rain. Nick was patient, encouraging, and just a really good time to be around. He made the whole experience easy and memorable for our family and took great care of us the entire session. Highly recommend if you're looking for a great surf lesson, especially with kids. We'd absolutely do it again.

The lesson could not have been better. Aloha brothers provides wetsuits and boards as part of the lesson. The instructor, Taylor, was so kind and patient and made the lesson so fun that neither kid wanted to take a break during the 90-minute session. To put that into perspective, we had to walk three blocks with surfboards, and they required three breaks to make it through that experience. Both boys ended up being able to stand on the board and could not wait for their next lesson. My son struggles to keep doing something if it's difficult, but thanks to Taylor's encouragement, he kept failing and kept getting back up and trying again. They were both very calm and fun throughout the whole lesson and adapted to everyone's level. Luke expressed that he likes to talk/teach a lot and gauged our comfort with receiving all of the information. Personally, I loved it and wanted to absorb all the tidbits he had to share. Mike was great. Met us with board and wetsuits and met each of us at our level. He was very hands on and out there in the water with us the whole time. We met by the bathrooms of El Porto by lifeguard station 12 and picked up our wetsuits from their cars. From there, we headed towards a less crowded portion of the water by the rocks, and did a quick yoga flow before going into the basics of how to pop up and hold the board. After the lesson, we got assigned our boards and went off into the water. I think both instructors tried to spread their attention as evenly as possible. I was able to stand up multiple times and surf some one-foot waves (go me!). The time flew by, and once it was over, we brought the surfboards back to their cars. They'll take Venmo for tips. I would suggest wearing your flip flops to the beach since the ground was really hot, and also bringing a water bottle for post-surf. There's paid parking available in the lot although the meters seem to be broken since I still got a ticket even though my parking should've been valid. Otherwise there's very limited street parking. You can leave your valuables in the instructor's car. You can book private lessons on the website or small group lessons as well.
