WOW. A Cadillac experience among wineries and tasting rooms. Chuck & Karen have the neatest little off-the-grid winery about 15 minutes west of McNeal AZ. Remote and very much worth your time to go there. Where do I start? My wife and I are spending our honeymoon in beautiful SE Arizona, which is God's country. One day I planned a round trip to 3 wineries in McNeal, Tombstone and Bisbee. We only made it to Chuck & Karen's winery in McNeal. Haha!! My wife and I were Chuck's captive audience for 4 hours. It was an all day experience with the drive from Bisbee and lunch afterward. We did MANY thing you NEVER get to do on other wine tastings. For starters we received unlimited tastings and a wine glass for only $15. At most other wineries you get 5-6 tastings and a kick in the butt on your way out the door. In all Chuck let us sample about 25 wines for $15. And Included in our tastings were barrel tastings - wines that came right from the tap of cellared aging barrels. You NEVER get barrel tastings anywhere else unless you pay big bucks in Napa Valley. A joke I heard today is that Napa makes auto parts, but southeast Arizona makes fine wines. I believe this to be a true statement, as my wife and I are both true Arizonans who know the beauty secrets of this state. Chuck then took us on a full tour of the entire winery, where we learned intricate details about how the best and most expensive wines in the world are made. Chuck & Karen specialize in Old World European style wines -- using German, Austrian and Hungarian traditional methods. Some of these wines you will find nowhere else in the US or Arizona but here. Plus you can't buy these wines in stores or restaurants, but only HERE at the winery premises in McNeal AZ. Additionally, some of their grape varietals are not found anywhere else in Arizona or the US. And when I say this winery is off the grid, it means they have their own water system they built themselves, their own 100% solar electric system, etc. It is enough power to run the house, the water system and the entire winery. The price of an annual membership at Hofmann Vineyards is just to buy a case of wine which is 12 bottles averaging about $30 a bottle. They may make their wines with the most expensive methods in the world, but they don't charge you an arm and a leg for their wines. SIGN US UP FOR A MEMBERSHIP! PLEASE!!! One other winery/distillery in Elgin treated us like crap, so we left without finishing our tastings. After experiencing Hofmann Vineyards however, and the royal treatment we received there, we will not tolerate any wineries that treat us like crap and just want our money for a measly few tastings, no tour, and can't wait til we leave. We will be back to see Chuck and Karen again though. They are real people and they cared about us enough to treat us how they want to be treated themselves at a winery.. We would rate Hofmann Vineyards 10 stars if we could on Yelp. read more
