Hoffman and Associates - Canton Location This experience was a clear example of the poor service standards that seem to plague Baltimore -- and even worse coming from a healthcare provider. They failed to fill, or even follow up on, a vital prescription -- one that could have affected the outcome of care. The indifference was striking. After a stressful appointment that required immediate follow-up for an urgent health concern, the front desk had no awareness of the situation and casually asked if we could reschedule for later in the week. The healthcare provider couldn't take one minute to communicate the urgency to the staff. This is not healthcare -- it's health business. If you want to feel dismissed and treated like a number, this is your place. If you expect even the most basic level of care, communication, or respect, look elsewhere. update: 10/27/2025 Again in the midst of a dire situation our appointment was cancelled Thursday and moved to Monday and then this morning changed again to Wednesday this week. The explanation: We need an ultrasound, the staffer who was meant to meet with us cannot do an ultrasound. The staffer who they assigned last week from the facility that knows what staffers are capable of didn't figure out what procedures they could do until the day of the appointment. Just let that sink in and ask yourself, "Do you want these people organizing medical practices for you? Would you want a facility that can't organize staff performing medical procedures on someone you love? or yourself? Let me broaden this: Medical outcomes are judged by averages. I'm not saying Hoffman gets everything wrong, or constantly hurts people but I am saying on average you will have a higher chance of having something go wrong based on the demonstrable expertise and skillset of this facility. Sure go ahead and risk it. Play Russian roulette with your body, your baby, you life while the people in charge of providing you care will gladly go home at 5PM without a care toward you. My experience with Hoffman & Associates during my pregnancy has been extremely disappointing. At my prenatal visits, the appointments felt rushed and consisted mainly of basic checks like urine, blood pressure, and listening to the heartbeat, with little explanation about my baby's development or my pregnancy overall. As a first-time mom, I expected more communication, guidance, and information during these visits. Instead, I often left feeling like my concerns were not addressed and that the appointments were a waste of time. Another major issue was the difficulty contacting the office directly. Being required to call a central headquarters and constantly being transferred made it very frustrating to get simple questions answered or handle paperwork. Pregnancy is an important and sometimes stressful time, and patients deserve to feel informed, supported, and heard. Unfortunately, that was not my experience here. read more

I am writing this review against Hoffman & Associates in regards to a phone policy. As a medical facility it is important that a medical facility answer their phones in a prompt an timely manner. Medical facilities play a crucial role in patient care, and by not answering phone in prompt and timely manner can delay a patient from receiving the care that is needed. On Monday April 14th, 2025 I called the office at 8am to set-up an urgent appointment. Per the automatic system the office was closed, but that the office was open. I called again at 8:05am, 8:10am, 8:15am, and 8:20am, to set-up the appointment. At 8:25am went onto the website to send an email to set-up the appointment. At 8:30am I called to set-up the urgent visit, and to my surprise was able to speak to someone. Tuesday April 15th, 2025 at 12:24pm I received a call from Hoffman and Associated to set-up the appoint. I advised the representative that the appointment has already been made but would like to file a complaint. I explained to representative that my complaint was due to the lack of promptness when answering phones. The representative transferred me over to the manager on duty. I informed the manager on duty that I called multiple times to set-up an urgent appointment but that I kept getting the automatic system stating that the office was closed, but that they opened at 8am. Per the manager they do not answer phones until 8:15am. I again explained that I even called after 8:15am, but was still receiving the voicemail stating that they were closed. I advised the manager that this is unacceptable for any medical facility to not answer phones in a prompt and timely manner as this can hinder care for patients for various reasons. The manager kept over talking me, and was not willing to listen. I advised her that I would be emailing the BBB, and that I would not be back as a patient. read more

I have no idea why it has taken me this long to leave this horrific practice group. It is despicable that a group that employs only female healthcare providers continues to perpetuate the standard across healthcare of not listening to their female patients. 4/15/25 I go into the office saying my water broke. Dr. Hoffman herself tells me "not it didn't, go home" .. 24 hours later, I finally trust myself and go into L&D. my water was broken for over 24 hours putting me and baby at risk of infection. I'm forced to stay extra time in the hospital due to risk of infection. June 2025, 7 weeks postpartum, they perforate my uterus trying to place an IUD. december 2025 I return for another IUD placement (after having to leave 3+ voicemails to make an appointment). I am pregnant (remember the failed IUD attempt), obviously no IUD placed at this appointment. January 2026 I came in for a first trimester appointment. They ask how my IUD is. WHAT??? I AM PREGNANT! Ludicrous. i end up miscarrying. Return April 2027 for another IUD attempt. It is placed but I am having severe pelvic pain. I re for a follow up on 4/20 expressing my concern about pain given the previous IUD perforation. NP Tiara Tolbert LAUGHS at me and says "that is normal and not a reason to be seen." 6 days later I am in worse pain than being in labor, not normal for 3 weeks postpartum-IUD insertion. They tell me again on the phone nothing is wrong although they have not checked me for an infection or examined me otherwise. Do not trust them with your reproductive health. I submitted a request for an appointment a few days later due to not getting a response and STILL have not gotten a single response. I waited several weeks for an appt. When I made the appointment I was clear I wanted a Doctor and not a PA. The letter in the mail said I was scheduled with a PA so I went along with it. I was scheduled to be seen at 12:15 at the Calvert ST location. I was in the Uber and at 11:56 he got a flat. I was pretty close to the facility and said I might be there around 12:10, I was coming. I was told very rudely and sternly no excuses, you have a "15 minute grace period" or we cancel your appointment. She tells me they like to stay on schedule and make no exceptions. I pay for a more expensive Uber to get there urgently. I arrive at 12:10 with all paperwork filled out, I filled out the mental health questionnaire in under a minute and wait to be seen. There is no other patients waiting to be seen. 12:45 I begin asking if the nurse practitioner is behind schedule, I'm told she is a "little" behind schedule (30 mins late on my appt). At 12:55 my name is called and we walk towards the scale. I stop and I ask if the doctor is ready to see me? I'm told no she is with another patient, this is now 40 minutes behind schedule. There is still no other patients waiting to be seen in the lobby. I asked how much longer would it be and she said there was no way of knowing. I turned around and made my way to the front desk. At 1PM, 45 minutes past my scheduled appt and with no other people waiting in the lobby, i inform the receptionist to cancel my appointment because the 15 minute grace period should work both ways if your going to be rude with no exceptions. I had always heard great things about this practice, but it was hard to get an annual appointment. At my annual appointment I found out that i was pregnant, so things worked out perfectly. They have 3 locations -- I've only been to the Catonsville and the downtown location. Although I prefer the downtown location, i go to Catonsville because it's more convenient. The people downtown are extremely kind and attentive -- the people at the Catonsville location are more solemn. If you're pregnant, i recommend scheduling all of your appointments ahead of time if you can to get the best slots. The wait times can be extremely long at times. I recently gave birth and had an ok experience. But i really have an issue with these nice nasty providers. I called asking for medication. And when i checked to see if it was safe for breastfeeding the receptionists states " yes it is safe for breast feeding...(names provider) wouldn't have prescribed it if it wasn't". Rude and unnecessary. it's one thing to think something but to say it to the patient is crazy. And to be made to feel bad as a postpartum mom by your OB practice is a mess. read more

I would NEVER have a baby with this practice again, and I would urge any woman to go elsewhere. They completely botched my newborn son's circumcision. We now have to see a specialist and my poor baby has to go through a painful procedure to correct it. I've reached out to the doctor that performed it, and she has yet to even respond to us. My appointments were always rushed, and no one ever took any time to explain anything to me as a first time expectant mother. The aftercare (if you can even call it that) that I received postpartum was pathetic, so much that I was in tears on the phone with the office staff. this office is not personal at all, they overbook appointments and rush through them. you can arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appt & still be sitting in the waiting room 30 minutes after your appt time. if you're just there for obstetrician care, you'll have a different doctor every time you go. this cause you to be asked the same questions over & over bc they don't bother to read their patient's chart. just from my first encounter i learned dr. hoffman is awful. she did my post partum checkup but rushed out the room before she told me any results. i had to call her back in the room to ask for results and i told her about my sciatica pain in my leg at my post-partum appointment and she did absolutely nothing but tell me to "refer to my primary care doctor". she then started talking about her sciatica as if i asked. the other doctors are great and it sucks they have to work under a practice like hers. i won't recommend this office to anyone and i wouldn't go back if i happen to be expecting again. read more

I scheduled an appointment to remove my IUD several months ago for the first available appointment. I did e-check-in on the day before my appointment. On the day of my appointment, court was running late and I was 15 minutes late, arriving at 3:45. Dr. Hoffman was still there, but refused to see me because I was her last patient of the day. My IUD will now be well past expired by the time it is able to be removed, which typically only takes a few minutes. Unreasonable and unprofessional. read more

Good: IDK Bad: If you're a normal gyno patient they don't care. I have been calling and asking about the same problems for A YEAR I have only ever spoken to anyone on the phone twice. Once I scheduled a virtual appointment, the doctor called a half-hour late and only attempted to call back ONCE. I immediately returned her call and got a message that the office was on lunch. I since then, have only ever gotten the message that the office is on lunch. Apparently, that is all they do...Take lunch and avoid phone calls. oh, they send incorrect bills though. Have two insurance companies, they billed one and sent me a bill for the rest that the other company would have billed. Tried to call and correct the issue, but THE OFFICE IS AT LUNCH! I'm so annoyed I guess they'll get their money after lunch. Conclusion: Find a doctor that can answer the phone, treat you with respect when you have valid concerns, cares about women who aren't pregnant, and have time to take on new cases. I had an overall good experience with the doctors here - nice, courteous, answers questions quickly on Mychart, sends out results of test work with explanations. I do agree with some prior comments mentioning that staff needs some work. For example some of the phlebotomists could be better - e.g. not using gloves or using broken gloves. The billing and medical records personnel could be more courteous instead of dismissive and accusatory. Covid-19 practices: social distancing in effect. Limited patients. I always only saw 1-2 patients around which was nice. Despite this, it was easy to get an appointment, which I appreciated. Though they require masks, I did see a patient allowed in without a mask, which felt a bit unsafe. Perhaps she could have been provided a mask if she did not have one rather than allowed in without one. The staff were all masked, though where the phlebotomists congregate, they had masks off. This is another reason why they should wear appropriate gloves as I mentioned above. The lady who drew my blood had her mask half off before I entered, and when I arrived, she out her mask back on, but with her broken gloved hand! She did not wash her hands nor put on new gloves. I was kind of worried, so immediately after washed my entire arm with soap and water and went home to shower ASAP. Maybe I am being a bit paranoid, but with unknown effects of the virus on a fetus (and some scary reports coming out regarding placental infection and stillbirths), I do not want to take any chances. I have been fully quarantining, so definitely do not want to pick up a virus at a doctor's! read more

If you plan on seeing a dr at this practice, only see dr nicholson or dr mudd. They are excellent drs with wonderful bedside manner which is what you need in an ob/gyn. Dr Hoffman was incredibly rude on several occasions but the time that sticks out the most was when I had my 4th csection (I've had 3 of them with this practice) ... I informed her that I was still in severe pain not lessening more than 2 weeks after my csection and she told me I complain too much and "you knew that you were having a baby for nine whole months. Go complain to your husband!" I was appalled. No one should ever be treated in this manner, especially at the most vulnerable time . I was suffering from post partum depression (diagnosed by my new gyn when I left Hoffman and associates). Also, when I was still in the hospital the 3rd day after having my csection, I informed dr niloo ghassemzadeh that I had pain that felt like a urinary infection. She put her hand on her hip and said with a tone "Angel, do you even want to go home or you just want to stay here?" I of course looked at her and said why would anyone WANT to be in the hospital. She thought that because I was on antibiotics I couldn't possibly have a uti but it happened to me twice after having babies. I had to wait until my check up weeks later for them to test my urine and tell me I indeed did have a uti. I was 35 at the time and knew my body. I would never recommend Teresa (Hoffman) nor Niloo (Ghassemzadeh). read more

Wish I could give more stars because truthfully I love all the doctors here (except for one). I've been coming here for 5 years. This is my second pregnancy - first ended in miscarriage and I received the best care possible during that traumatic time. As others have mentioned, wait times are RIDICULOUS. Regular appointments are fine (I can stand to wait once a year). But the pregnancy ones are where it's painful. If you don't get a first thing in the morning appointment you could be looking at up to a 2 hour doctor's appointment. And sometimes even if you do book something when they open you are still waiting forever. To do that once a year is fine. When you get to the end of pregnancy and are going once a week - even bi-weekly - unacceptable. You're tired, huge, uncomfortable. The last thing you want to do is wait 2 hours for a 5 minute appointment. I honestly don't know why it takes so long to see patients. Overbooking maybe? Not enough rooms? Dr's take their time between patients? Whatever the reason it's very frustrating. Again, I love the doctor's here but for my next pregnancy I may seriously consider switching, which is unfortunate. Word of advice: If you're doing one week or 2 week appointments, schedule as far out as you can so you can get the earliest appointment. read more

I switched to Hoffman and associates after having a miscarriage and bad experience with another OB/GYN practice in the area. I am so happy with the care I received by Hoffman & Associates. They are so kind, professional, and knowledgeable. I was very impressed how timely the majority of my appointments were. My baby boy was delivered by Dr. Anderson-Tull and I cannot say enough good things. She was so patient, kind, encouraging and completely eased the anxiety of my first labor experience. She stayed late after her 24 hour shift to check in on me. I was also very impressed with the nursing care provided on L&D and mother baby unit at Mercy. Unprofessional staff. One of the medical assistants gave me a "diagnosis" without being tested, however I did tell her I had my suspicions about having PCOS, however a previous provider ruled that out by doing multiple tests years ago. I told her I'd like to be tested to confirm the suggested diagnosis. She then tells me in the most insensitive, annoyed tone "well your symptoms are literally the definition of PCOS. You can schedule a test but you'd have to schedule when you're ovulating". How can you confirm a diagnosis within the first few minutes of an exchange, without proper testing? read more

As a new mom, you want to feel that you are heard and guided and these people may as well work for some public agency because that's the level of warmness, compassion, and concern you receive from them. I hate to be writing a not so great review considering I love the doctors but I felt it neccesary. For one the wait times are awful. I would try to fit an appt in during my lunch break (I work at the hospital they are located at) and it would never happen. I would spend my entire break waiting to go back. They also dismissed me as a patient because I couldn't pay my entire deductable in full from my delivery. Mind you I not only work in the hospital they are located but have also had both of my children delivered buy them. I have health insurance that paid for the jist of the bill as well. I get they have to be paid but they could've offered a payment arrangement of some kind. They would not even schedule an appt. If I could have Dr. Hoffman adopt me, I would. That is how much I love her. Not only as a doctor, but she's just a great person. I have had some very high risk pregnancies and every time I have had a question or concern she goes above and beyond to ease my tension. She worked closely with my other doctors to make sure that I was getting the highest quality of care. She is easy to talk to and actually listens and remembers things about her patients. One time I was having a big problem with my pregnancy and she took me in on her lunch break and I apologized for interrupting her time off and she flat out said, "Heather, I always have time for you... always." That just made me feel so good. I sometimes feel like doctors don't spend time with their patients and realize the situations that they're going through. Dr. Hoffman is that exception. She is magnificent. She has three offices that I know about. One near Mercy Medical Center, one in Dundalk, and one in Catonsville. read more

Hoffman & Associates is comprised of four female OB/GYNs: Teresa Hoffman, Kate Abello, Erika Nichelson, and Janna Mudd. I have seen all four doctors both during and after my pregnancy. We had a horrific experience with our first OB, and ultimately decided to switch to the Hoffman group at 33 weeks pregnant. I was a nervous wreck about changing doctors so late into my pregnancy, but this team is FABULOUS. They are extremely knowledgeable, and if you need someone paged during off hours for emergency purposes, they will call back within minutes. Dr. Nichelson delivered my son and Dr. Abello did his circumcision. My son's pediatrician saw it during his first doctor's appointment and said it was one of the most beautiful circs she had ever seen, meaning it was done very well. Trust me, your lady bits will be well taken care of here! read more

This is a women owned practice, caring for women. I saw two doctors so far, and I cannot complain. They take their times and explain everything for you and listen to all your questions and concerns. They are able to draw blood at the practice, which is very convenient. However as everyone comments, wait times are ridiculous. Expect to sit for an hour before the nurse even sees you. read more

The prenatal care was fine, but the delivery was nearly disastrous. After being in active labor for several hours, I was not seen by anyone from Hoffman until I was ready to push. I told the nurse I was ready to push, she fetched Dr. Janna Mudd and Dr. Tangela Anderson-Tull, and one of them checked me. I was 9.5 cm and feeling like I needed to push (no epidural), but they BOTH LEFT THE ROOM because I wasn't at 10 cm. They did not believe me when I said I needed to push. This was my second time giving birth. The Mercy nurse, for some reason, was also gone. Minutes later, my baby's head came out with just my husband in the room, and he was blue and limp. My husband had to run into the hallway to yell for the doctors to come back. Neither of us had any idea what to do. The nurses came back in the room before Drs. Mudd or Anderson-Tull, and a nurse--not the doctors who got paid for the delivery--delivered the rest of the baby. Only after the baby was completely out, and still blue and limp, did Dr. Mudd rush back in the room, whisk my baby away, and help him breathe. It also turns out that my baby was in the occiput posterior position (he was facing my front instead of my spine), but no one had ever bothered to check his position or tell me the entire time I was in labor. Again, I did not set eyes on my doctors until I was 9.5 cm, when they left right before the birth. They did not do their job. read more

I have had good experiences with the doctors here throughout my pregnancies. The doctors are thorough and heir on the side of caution, which I greatly appreciate. I have most closely worked with Dr. Nichelson, Dr. Anderson Tull, and Dr. G, and they are all kind, cautious, and treat you with respect. Dr. Anderson Tull did a great job on my c-section and even held my hands while I was getting anesthesia. During the pregnancy, if I ever ran into any problems, the office would get me in that day for an appointment. I am deducting one star due to wait times (sometimes you are waiting for an hour just for your routine appointment.) And the other frustrating thing is that the offices close so early (2 p.m. or 3:30 p.m. some days,) that if you run into a problem or have a question in the afternoon, you either have to call the doctor on call at the hospital or wait until the next day. Also, the short hours and no evening or weekend appointments along with the long wait times mean you have to take a lot of time out of your day to go to an appointment. read more

Customer Service needs a WHOLE LOT OF WORK. Their receptionist when it's time to pay is in experience. When they request your copay, the receptionist does not request the correct amount and you end up owing the agency. Believe me, they will send you information to collections. I believe better receptionists comprehending their job duties, not just their titles will make this company just a little bit better. read more

I would not recommend this pratice to anyone at all. My previous gyn retired and was excellent for 21 years. A first impression is a lasting one. First time going to the location in Woodlawn and the place is down right dirty. The urine samples and blood work are in the same room and the urine bottles seem very foggy. I went to the front door and a dog was thier to greet me, I'm not and animal person, so why would you have and animal at a pratice when working on women's bodies. The beds look like they are dirty, the equipment to perform a gyn was open and not in plastic. They just pulled it out of a draw, unsanitary. Dr. Hoffman spoke for me for 2 seconds and assumed I had something which I knew wasn't true. She quoted it would be one hell.of a surprise and said I'll bet you a 100. When the blood work came back and the culture and typing was negative, I tried emailing her back, no response. She billed me six times and I had to go behind her to do my own billing, went and got a second opinion just to find out I had inflamed boils, which she assumed. All women don't have or a walking around with std Dr. Hoffman. Thank God for second opinions and through gyn who's clean and takes thier time. Dr. Hoffman never went and reviewed my previous chart. Dr nicholson delivered my baby today. The lady is a gem of a person, grounded and i can say i was delivered in less than 5 minutes of her entering the room which God knows was the relief I was looking for. The ancillary staff was very supportive too. I would be careful with the anesthesia people who did a suboptimal job with the epi but it was all taken care of by the ob unit. Sydney , both cristina and kristina were absolutely fantabulous. I did not want a male resident that was no problem. I will continue with this practice because they are awesome compassionate physicians who understand that whatever number baby it is, labor is a very painful event and the patient is not only in alot of physical pain but is actually swinging between life and death. read more

The only time her staff was please was when they kept calling me to try to charge so i can transfer my information elsewhere. Don't waste your time at this practice. I have been going there for OB care for 7 months and wish I had left when I had the chance. Wait times are ridiculously long. Today I waited 90 minutes past my appointment time before leaving. When you do get in to see a doctor or a midwife, the provider will hardly glance at you and focus on updating notes in the computer for your extremely brief visit which will leave you wondering why you even came in. I've been going here for years and had a pleasant experience with all of the providers... until I was seen by dr Hoffman. I had terrible lower pelvic and lower back pain after suffering a miscarriage 2 months prior. It felt similar to a kidney infection Ive had before. After explaining that to dr hoffman, she said, do you even know where your kidneys are? And demanded that I show her. She then said I'm probably just not drinking enough water and to remember that I must drink water for two now. I reminded her that I was no longer pregnant, and had a miscarriage... in her office. she only responded with "oh that's right" and then moved on. Pretty painful thing to relive in such a cold manner. She had my chart in her hand, I guess she couldn't be bothered with reading it. The appt ended with her saying she would get my urine test back in 3 days, but that was her birthday, so she would check it in 4 and get back to me. I left the office feeling worse than when I went in. I've never had a provider make me feel so insignificant. She was so incredibly rude that I felt it necessary to write my first review ever. They did not call me with my test (routine test) results - even though the test results were abnormal and possibly life-threatening. I had to call them, when it occurred to me that I should check in because I had not heard back. When I did call, I was put on hold for ~20 min, and then transferred to a lab tech who was extremely rude, brushed off my concerns over the abnormal test result, could not explain to me what the result meant, and then hung up on me. I was left to frantically search the internet and ask friends, until I could talk to another physician (at a different practice). 2. While making ^^ this appointment as a new patient, I had asked to see a doctor who could get me on the road to having an IUD placed. I was very clear about this when making the appointment. Only upon seeing the doctor was I told (by the doctor herself) that Mercy does not allow its physicians to provide contraception. Why didn't they refer me to a different practice, then, when I was first attempting to make the appointment? Or at least inform me of this policy? It's as if they wanted me to waste my time and energy, and potentially keep me from ever getting an IUD (which was the result of this situation, because of issues with timing and my insurance plan). 3. A year later, I still cannot get a copy of my abnormal lab result from this office. I have paid them the $10 fee, but I have nothing. I've called 3-4 times, been put on hold, etc., and nothing. I recently was a patient. I have yet to get the vaccine. I expressed my concerns and fears as a pregnant woman. Dr Hoffman totally disregard my feelings. Then threatened me with her practice will soon only treat vaccinated patients. She expressed that I should live in a bubble ( Very Rudly). I told her I've never been sick with covid and I take all necessary precautions in protecting myself. But I do have my religious believes on why I'm declining at this time. She kept reinforcing the practice will be vaccinated only. I told her my anxiety has flaired because that's means I will need a new doctor. She then stated that's going to be for my new patients. She never spoke to pregnancy check up or my follow-up from being recently admitted to the Er. She left out very Rudly. I will NEVER EVER IN LIFE ATTEND THIS PRACTICE! You can be informative but you can't Force people into something they don't believe! read more

I was excited to make an initial appoint because she was recommended by another doctor, however I won't return. I had an annual appointment with the mid-wife who demanded to do a breast check even though I had just had breast reduction surgery and had gauze over my breasts. She also became angry when I couldn't move my arms well. read more

I just moved back from living abroad in a socialist country where healthcare is free or very cheap. There I called to get an appointment to see the OB, 2 weeks later I'm in her office. Here I called Hoffman & Associates, 5 months for new, non-pregnant patients. Really?! And they didn't even provide a recommendation for another doc I could see since they don't have any availability. read more

Aside from it being necessary to schedule appointments way in advance, this office is great. I've had nothing but positive experiences, caring and knowledgeable doctors. I've had some terrible gynecologists in the past (don't get me started) and they are FAR from that. I don't know about some of these negative reviews, but I highly recommend them. read more
