Funeral director Jim Wardlow is an incredible person. He was such a good guide through this difficult process. A real mensch.

There are…read morevery limited options if you register online, so I waited and then he passed away the same day. I called them when he passed away and it was pretty easy as he was on hospice at the time. It still took over 4 hours to pick him up. Number 1 complaint - after someone passes it is very hard to schedule an appointment. Nothing happens until that appointment is completed. My brother passed away on a Wednesday night and they told me Monday was the soonest. After arguing, I was able to secure a Friday morning phone appointment. I had spoken to 2 other people before that appointment and all 3 people gave me different information. Here is what I think happens. When they are picked up they are taken to Bloomington. All bodies go there. I was told that some locations (Edina, Minneapolis, etc...) do their own cremations and some (St. Paul) do not. So the body is supposed to be moved to your location for cremation (if offered) or cremated and then moved to your chosen location. The second option could mean a week or more delay. So I picked Minneapolis as they assured me I would have the remains faster. I was also told he would be cremated over the weekend and the remains would be available Tuesday or Wednesday. You cannot schedule a pickup appointment until they have been cremated. I called on Monday and was told he would be cremated that day. It was actually Tuesday. On Tuesday I called again and they finally let me schedule an appointment. The soonest I could get was Thursday afternoon. The service was scheduled for Friday morning. What really irked was they made it sound so busy. NOOOO. We arrived early and were parked for a half an hour. No one came or went. It took 5 minutes. No one came or went while we were there either. Very poor customer service and they shouldn't make you wait so long. They do call and text afterwards to offer assistance. If only they paid more attention and care on the front end.

I signed up for a payment plan with them. Deposited money and never heard back. I called twice with…read moreno reply. I had to go in for a refund. Avoid this place like the plague!

My mom passed at about 1:15 on a Sunday, and the chapel had someone to pick her up by about 3:30. It was comforting to know that we were cared for almost immediately! Two days later we met with Scott, who listened to our every desire for mom's funeral, which was held at the Edina chapel. From picking the casket to suggesting flowers, and finding a priest, all of the people at Washburn-McReavy made everything clear and easy to follow. Mom was 91, and definitely had aged, but the makeup and hair was amazing! We thought for sure it would be a closed casket!! But she looked so good we left it open! Scott found the overwhelming amount of tables and easels we needed for presentation. The funeral went smoothly, and the burial even smoother! When we pulled up to Ft. Snelling... the traffic coordinator knew Scott and helped us immensely! It was as perfect as a funeral can get! Everything was handled and coordinated without worries! It was a beautiful service, and everyone commented! You won't be disappointed! In a time of stress, they made our lives so much easier!

Honestly, I would not recommend Crystal Lake Funeral Home to anyone who needs a final resting place for their deceased loved one they are the worst they don't care about the people or the condition they may be in due to the circumstances they only care about the money by overcharging me we are now going to court which is crazy because all I know is the state paid for my daughter to have a grave marker after 3 years it is still not been put on her grave now they say I owe them way more than what I agreed to plus half of the things they are overcharging me, for now, I never received I know they changed and made the prices of my choice more than they were. I agree Run, Run, Run don't be fooled & tricked as I feel I have some extra stress & worry of debt after dealing with them they are the worst

Military families should think twice before trusting Sunset Cemetery Funeral Home with their loved…read moreone's burial. My grandfather, a Vietnam veteran who served his country with honor and arranged his funeral expenses in advance, was not given the dignity or respect he deserved. The funeral director mishandled the presentation of the military burial flag. By the military rules, the flag belongs to the surviving spouse, or if none, the eldest child. In our case, that was my mother. Instead, the director allowed my uncle, who was largely absent from my grandfather's life, to take the flag. When confronted, she claimed it wasn't her place to "meddle in family affairs" and even offered to order us a second flag. Only one flag is given per family. As a funeral director, you should know and respect these rules. The flag is not just a piece of cloth; it symbolizes a veteran's service and sacrifice. Allowing the wrong person to take it disrespected both my grandfather and his military service. To make matters worse, at the burial itself, when my sister and I were verbally attacked by another family member, the funeral director walked over and told us to stop when we were defending ourselves, even though she admitted later that she hadn't seen how it started. She made us feel like we were the problem and that's clearly how she saw us. My close family chose not to attend the funeral service, and only attend the burial, because of how unstable our family members are. That decision was painful enough but the experience with the funeral director at the burial made things even worse. I attempted to have a conversation with the funeral director later but she only cared about listening to the person who signs the check. You can't redo that moment. They took that moment from my mom, the only person who was consistent and present in my grandfather's life. My uncle who took the flag had nothing to do with my grandfather the majority of his life. My aunt accused my grandfather of horrific things. Obviously, families always have issues. But this is why the military has a protocol in place for who receives the flag. The funeral director told me she has nothing to do with deciding who gets the flag. Exactly. That is why there is a protocol that funeral directors and others should follow. That's why it's there -- to make it clear and prevent situations like this from happening again. This isn't about the flag itself. It's what it represents. My grandfather was a very particular and proud man. He would have wanted the protocol followed. This funeral home showed no sense of responsibility, compassion, or professionalism in this situation. They caused issues. Families--especially military families--deserve better. My grandfather served his country with honor, but Sunset Cemetery failed to honor him in return.
