She's an amazing seamstress! Every time I go into her shop she friendly & professional! She doesn't cut corners & wants you to be totally happy with her work! She extremely aware of the details & very knowledgeable & you usually only need one sitting!! Hoda has been my seamstress for 30 years! I won't trust anyone else with my clothes. She has altered pants, blouses, dresses, formals and my re-enacting period gowns. Everything has been completed with perfection. She has amazing patience and listens intently to what you want. She will make suggestions as she honestly wants you to "look good" in your clothes. Hoda will go out of her way to make sure you are satisfied with her work. She does not deserve the disparaging reviews that I have read on this site. Some friendly advice - try on the clothes when you pick them up to make sure the alterations are correct. Don't wait till the last minute to have work done - everyone deserves a vacation - so plan accordingly. Quality work is worth the cost. I guess we expected too much from a 'professional'. I would have expected that recommendations be given when it comes to a wedding gown, so the bride has a perfect fit. We asked for the dress to be shortened, add the bustle, add a second row to the straps. $600 - half the cost of the dress mind you. When we went to pick up, we found out she was closing the shop for vacation until the day before the wedding. So we did take it as it was, not wanting to risk the chance of picking up the day before and it being worse than we already had. Upon my daughter getting into the dress, I noticed the hips had puckering. Honda was snappy with "we didn't do anything to that." In my mind, I was like I realize that, but here's where I expected that she would have recommended that be taken care of when we brought the gown in. Next up was the HORRIBLE shortening job. Take a look at the photos. She cut the lace straight and then loose stitched the scallop right over top! I spend an entire day hand stitching the scallop on so it was secure and then cutting the under layer off so it wasn't a double layer of lace mismatched lace. I go to put the dress back on the hanger and I'm searching for the hang tab for the train. In the process I find a straight pin that was in the innermost layer of the dress. It appeared to me that they used it to hold the layer up while working on something else and forgot to take it out. Thank goodness when my daughter put it on, that layer wasn't longer than the rest, because there was no way I could've fixed that. It was also at this time I couldn't figure out why I couldn't get the zipper all the way down. I discovered that when she stitched the hooks in for the bustle, she sewed the material across the lower end of the zipper. Do not take anything special here. I wish I'd read these reviews on wedding gowns first! To Kyle's "defense statement" here's our photos! And the zipper was stitched over at the bottom of the zipper, so yes she could get into it, but as I mentioned I want able to get the zipper all the way down! I did address my concerns when we picked up the dress and Hoda snapped at me - as I mentioned in the original review. read more

Firstly, if you are a bride to be please DO NOT take your dress here to be altered. I brought my dress to Hodas to be altered, we agreed to add cups, bustle and hem. I picked up my dress and was not told to try it on while i was there at any point during pick up and payment. Weeks later it was the day of my bridal portraits, i put on my dress and to my horror there were multiple major problems with the alterations made. The cups that were put in were placed too high and were visible, there was also a rip in the back that was NOT there before, AND the back of the dress which i requested to be hemmed so it wouldnt drag on the ground wasnt fixed at all. The chest area of the dress needed to be taken in, and the solution i was given was to simply add in cups... which was done wrong anyways. In my bridal portraits you can see the cups pictured below.. When I went back to Hodas after I tried my dress on for my bridal portraits - they were closed FOR A MONTH for "summer break". Naturally, since my wedding was shortly after with their store being closed i had to take my dress to another seamstress, who uncovered a plethora of problems with the work that was done at Hodas. So, after having to spend more money on more alterations to fix the issues, I returned to Hodas to ask for a refund as practically NONE of the alterations I requested were done correctly. She proceeded to blame me, saying it was my fault for not trying it on before taking the dress home, as well as saying that it was my fault that the cups were messed up because I had "lost too much weight." I haven't lost any weight. Hodas refused to take any accountability for what they did to my dress, and blamed me for their terrible work. I was informed that in order to receive any type of refund, they would need to see the ticket they have in store... which they conveniently could not find. She was extremely rude, raised her voice and concluded with saying that they would not be giving my ANY refund at all. I had no choice but to leave at that point. She proceeded to call me 10 mins later screaming at me over the phone, saying she had found my ticket. I could not understand anything else she said. In conclusion, I was forced to spend more money than needed to fix a terrible alteration job, and had it all blamed on me. So if you're looking for a professional to alter your dress, DO NOT TAKE IT TO HODAS. read more

Absolutely hands down recommend Hodas Tailoring! I had a zipper bust on my Milwaukee jacket. Rather than go through the hassle of sending it back for warranty, I took it to Hodas and she installed a complete new zipper system YKK! YKK is the premium zipper assembly! I also had her replace the zipper system in my Milwaukee hoodie as well since it failed to stay closed! I believe the jacket was $50 and the hoodie was $40. Very reasonable and the work is better than OEM. She can do any alteration in clothing! Before you throw it out get it fixed lol! read more

In response to kyle's response to my review....a skilled seamstress should've been able to alter an off the rack dress, as the seamstress I ended up going to was able to do in one fitting. It is unfortunate that the customer is blamed for a lack of skill on the company's part. Yes, you did follow up twice after I took my dress elsewhere, but after 4 fittings and my wedding 3 weeks away I did not have the time or confidence that my dress would be satisfactorily completed. I hope no other bride goes through the horrible experience I had with this company.. accepting responsibility goes a long way. read more

Went to Hoda's for my wedding dress alterations and one of my bridesmaid's dresses needed a little work. I went in expecting no issues and was super excited to put my dress back on. But this lady was pretty rude toward me and allowed me to be in my dress for like 10 seconds before telling me she couldn't work on me and I needed to "lose some pounds". I looked at her so confused because she hadn't even touched me or tried to button a button. When I looked at her and asked her what she meant she said "you know what to do, right?" What???? I'm sure she has her share of brides in all shapes and sizes wanting to wear a dress that is too big or too small. But who jumps the gun like that and goes for such a harsh comment? I was humiliated and completely crushed. Couldn't stop crying until I had 3 different women make me put my dress on for them so they could see for themselves. Guess what? My dress fit fine. There wasn't even a struggle to zip it up or button up all the buttons. Needless to say, there were some very angry people who wanted to go back into this shop and figure out why this woman made such a sensitive comment for absolutely no reason. It took me a little while to shake off what she said. I kept second guessing myself since the whole past year leading up to my wedding I wasn't trying to lose weight, but just maintain it. She really got into my head even though I put my dress on 3 times after she said what she said. Finally got rid of those negative thoughts when I went to another seamstress. Didn't tell her what happened at all... and this lady was wonderful. Told me I looked amazing and the dress fit like a glove. Just needed to add a bustle, give it a slight hem, and work on the bust area a bit since it was too big. She was just as upset as the other women who put me in my dress were when I eventually told her what Hoda's had said to me just 2 days earlier. I've never done a negative review before, but I feel like this calls for one. I'd never come on here and tell this story if I genuinely didn't fit into my dress and needed to lose a little weight. She was clearly way out of line. Maybe she didn't feel like working or was having a bad day... no idea. Don't care. It was uncalled for, super rude, and just ridiculous. My bridesmaid left her dress there since she got fitted before me and i practically ran out of the place to avoid crying in front of everybody. I showed my new seamstress what my bridesmaid needed done on her dress and she said it would be about $75. Hoda's was charging her $140. Thankfully Hoda's let her pick the dress up and not pay since they hadn't worked on it yet. I won't be recommending any of my friends, family, or bride to come here. read more

I took an expensive, brand-new peplum blouse to get the elastic in the waist removed. I was quoted by Hoda $20 for the alterations. They had the blouse for over two weeks and the day before it was supposed to be ready, Hoda calls me and leaves me a voicemail saying that the blouse was going to be more work than she thought and the price was now $45!!! My immediate reaction was to say no to that price hike. I was so disappointed. It felt like a bad business move from their part to do that, especially since I was looking forward to wearing the blouse to a family function two days later. I had a very simple alteration. It cost more than the actual dress, took two weeks to have done and was uneven! The work was very minor. I should have went somewhere else knowing that when my husband had his rank sewn on his military uniform, it was blatantly crooked but the shop is close to me. Hopefully, it will be fixed CORRECTLY without having to wait another two weeks. read more

Men's clothing - Fantastic! I walked in with a bespoke Savile Row sports coat that was three sizes too big. She cut it down to fit perfectly. Trousers (both dress and khaki casual - 10 pair to date) have been taken up in the waist and crotch, hemmed and cuffed perfectly. My legs differ by just over 1/4 inch so it is not an easy fit. To make it worse I am very picky. I have taken two pair back for adjustments and there were no problems. Remember one thing - you generally see the bad reviews. There are probably ten times as many good reviews that never get posted. read more

Responding to Kyle's comment since he did not respond to me via inbox: I'm not sure who Kyle is but he provided false information. I only interacted with Hoda and never saw a man in the shop. The only services I requested was tailoring for my wedding dress: shortened straps, hemming and taken in at the waist. I was quoted $275. The first time I returned the dress was unrecognizable and zipper broken. I was so alarmed I felt I needed to order another dress because I didn't think the dress could be rectified. Hoda blew me off and told me she would fix it. The second time I returned there were holes in the straps and the dress had not been fitted whatsoever. Hoda told me that fixing the holes (created by Hoda) along with hemming (which was known from the start) was an additional $300. Hoda made me feel extremely uncomfortable and taken advantage of. I felt I had no other choice but to leave my dress with her to try and fix or my only option was to keep the back up dress and try to get it fitted elsewhere in time. I spoke to another tailor in town and she told me that several other people in the community have had the same experience (which is clear when you see the reviews--I wish I had done my research!!). I only want to warn other customers so they don't have important garments ruined or have a similar experience of being uncomfortable and taken advantage of. read more

Don't go here unless you want to risk having your expensive clothing item ruined. I bought a $500 suit for my husband and I needed to have only a few minor alterations done, shorten the sleeves and pants both by 1 inch. The result of the alteration was extremely poor, sleeves were uneven and wrinkled, not straight as before. On stitching of dark blue pants they used black color stitches which were very visible. Hoda said the work was done by some tailor in Quantico and he will "get in trouble"...so she knew it was done very poorly. She said it's "fine though, still wearable"! She treated $500 suit like it was pajamas, they are wearable too LMAO! She offered to give them a chance to fix it, but no way I'm trusting them with my clothes again! In the end, she issued the refund for the alterations. It was my first experience there and my trust is lost forever. Please think twice before going there, especially to alter something important to you. Think how you would feel if it gets ruined. Now I have to order the suit again and pay twice for my mistake having it altered there...definitely a lesson for me. Hope this review helps someone to avoid my mistake. I lucked into finding Hoda's a few years ago when I needed a last minute adjustment to my bride's maid dress for my sister's wedding. The work was perfect, timely, and cost appropriate. Since then we have used Hoda's on multiple occasions for gowns, uniforms, suits/business clothes, and a few dress items for our children. Horrible service! Pants did not fit after being altered. Hoda blamed me and charged me to fix her mistakes. After second alteration pants still weren't correct. Again she blamed me and claimed the pants didn't fit because I was wearing them crooked!?!? I left in disgust. Never will I use her nor will I recommend her to anyone.
