1 star awarded, 0 stars earned. This is one of the worst customer service experiences I've encountered. Unhelpful, combative, dismissive, unresponsive. If you have will call for your propane service you had better start calling for a refill while your tank is still half full. You need to call, email, call, and email again to get a response and if you're lucky, they'll show up and charge you twice the going rate for propane in the state. Probably because they're losing business left and right. Everyone I know is jumping ship for other companies because they're unreliable and also underhanded in their billing. Do yourself a favor and go find another propane supplier. There are plenty of them out there that are a lot easier to deal with than Hocon. read more

This is the second time we have run out of gas in the middle of winter. I've had numerous problems with them. Unfortunately, I've been a customer for years, and management has changed...the company has gone downhill due to these management changes. I will now (finally) be switching companies. If you do use Hocon, just know that you will be treated as an inconvenience and most likely run out of gas due to their lack of communication and billing issues. read more

I am so thankful of being able to read all the reviews here because now I know I'm not alone, unfortunately I read the reviews after starting my service with this terrible company. The customer service is the worst service ever, that lady, Maria, who has not education at all and don't know how to be a good customer service person is a terrible, I mean the worst customer service person I ever spoke to, she yells at you, doesn't allow you to speak and treat you like if you are a stupid person, she is so awful that I prefer to call when I know she is not there, the other customer service representative are not great either, then the mistakes they make with the money they charge you are terrible, honestly if this company is reading this reviews they should take action and try to improve their service before they have a legal action from the customers... remember this reviews can be used as evidence. read more

This company has the WORST customer service and pricing. I think the term gaslighting must have been coined to describe this gas company's customer service department. If you have an issue with servicing or billing they will turn it on you, won't call you back and will send it to collections. Manager David who is responding to these reviews - my husband and I have tried to get in touch with you for MONTHS, including your sidekick Drew who we were told was more responsive. I've used HOCON for many years. Even through this crazy pandemic, HOCON has been nothing but professional. Most recently (9/19/2020), Jay, Josh, and Marie guided me through the purchase of patio heaters. And gave me a great deal. I also use them for heat. Keep up the great work! read more

My husband and I are changing our wood burning fireplace to gas. We visited the showroom and we were helped by an associate that was absolutely amazing! Charging the elderly $4.08 a gallon when the current price is $2.00 . Outright robbery. Stay clear of these swindlers.

It gets better... One year later, they made another unauthorized delivery to our house and delivered 203 gallons of propone and charged us 4.14 per gallon. After calling around to other propone companies, we found the market price to be 2.14/gallon. I called the office and they told me I was on "automatic" delivery. Had the same discussion with them last year and told them that I never agreed or signed any contract that authorized automatic delivery. It was like the conversation never happened. I've contacted the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection and found out that this company has 78 complaints on file. I've contacted the Better Business Bureau and they have 19 complaints on file. That should speak for itself. This is a company that really needs to improve their operations and customer service. read more

BUYER BEWARE Let me preface this review by saying I have contacted the Attorney General's office and submitted a complaint against HOCON gas and I would like to advise anyone else who feels they have been taken advantage of by this company to do the same. We moved into our new home (rental) in July 2017. Our landlord previously used HOCON as a supplier for propane. When we moved in she had forgotten to remove auto delivery. They came out and filled our tank for $3.99 a gallon in July - which was an astronomical rate at the time. We called up and complained. They said this amount was based on our usage and size of the tank. I wish I knew then what I know now and I would have fought them back then. We asked them to remove auto delivery and had our landlord call to have the account put in our name. Last week low and behold they came out and delivered propane even though we had auto delivery supposedly shut off. So I called them and they claim they had no record of requesting auto delivery cancelled - which was a lie but of course we had no proof. So this time I requested proof of this change in writing - which I have yet to receive. Now to the real nitty gritty of it - they charged us a whopping $6 a gallon on our fill!!!! This is literally robbery! So I called multiple propane companies in the area; quoted the usage and the size of the tank and I was given the rate their current auto delivery customers were receiving and let me tell you all the rates were in the LOW $3's. I also just received and invoice for a tank rental for close to $70 when other suppliers charge around $40 - $50 for leasing their tanks. So I called HOCON back and explained all this. The call Rep became nervous and kept putting me on hold. She said she could reduce our rate to $4.79 a gallon. Big whoop right??? That's still WAY higher than the average. And why were we not charged the lesser rate to begin with? So we have contacted the AG's office, and are having ALL Gas come out and remove their tank and be our new provider for propane. Not only are ALL Gas' prices fair, but they are an honest reputable company and I highly recommend using them for propane - heck I recommend any other company out there over HOCON. They are a horrible company that rips people off - look at their reviews and you will see we aren't their only victims. STAY AWAY from HOCON gas. read more

TERRIBLE!! Customer service is horrendous - it seems they have a 10 year old answering the phones as they couldn't even figure out how to put me on hold or take me off of hold. It took them over a week and a half to deliver once asked. Thank goodness only our fireplace uses propane or we would have froze to death! read more

The worst customer service I've ever encountered. Called last week for a service appointment, was told the service manager would call me back. After three days I call as soon as they opened this morning. Was told that the service manager would call me back "shortly". At 4:14 pm I called, was told that the service manager was free and I would be transferred to him. After waiting 5 minutes someone else answered the phone. She told me that every morning they go over the open service tickets and schedule their day. If I don't get a call in the morning, I'm not on the schedule for that day. Even as I write this, the level of idiocy takes my breath away. And, oh, yeah, the service manager had just left to go home because, after all, they close in 10 minutes. We started with Hocon because we thought they were the only game in town. We use them to heat an apt. They say call five business days ahead, but if we run out we are screwed. When we did order earlier because we did not read the amount of gas correctly we received a notice. We are damned if we do and damned if we don't. We are always told c.o.d.. They have card on file. After 15 years you'd think they would know. Phone operators don't know where drivers are and are not very polite. read more

Hocon installed our fireplace in our kitchen 12 years ago and at that time installed their propane tank for that fireplace & our stovetop. We also had a propane insert installed by them in our family room fireplace 4 years ago. We have had propane delivered by their company for the past 12 years and was always on automatic fill and payment until we noticed they were overcharging for the propane. When we called to question, they then reduced the bill. The same thing happened the following year and again realized Hocon was over charging us. Although they reduced the bill again, we were annoyed that after being a customer for 12 years and regularly consuming 400 gallons of gas per year that they would try to overcharge us. We then took our service off automatic payment. Our pilots went off on both our fireplaces (which it seemed to do each year since we had them install our family room fireplace) and they came out to service it. According to their company, they sent us a bill which I never received and because it wasn't paid, they didn't show up to automatically fill our tank this month. When we called to question why the tank was empty, they indicated it was because we hadn't paid the last bill of $260! They've been receiving payments for the past 12 years, every single month and they decide not to fill the tank because one bill which we never received was not paid. Furthermore, they wanted to charge us to come out and blow out the lines and reset the pilot - unbelievable! I told them to come take back their tank and we have arranged with American Gas Works, whose price is better and does not charge a tank rental fee! Good riddance Hocon! read more

Like another reviewer said, they only get one star because there isn't a zero star category. I have been a customer since 1978, but longevity doesn't translate to better service. After years of being charged the highest rates, I finally managed to get a rate similar to (but still higher than) other providers. This past winter, when gas prices went down, I noticed that Hocon only lowered my rate when I got after them. They went down to $2.85. I let that go (they told me that was the best rate that they could give me). The straw that broke the camel's back was when I told them that I would be running out of LP in 5 or 6 days so to send a truck to me. When I called up on the 5th day, they said I wasn't scheduled for a delivery and that I should just turn of the anything that uses gas. They would get to me the following week. I explained that is was for heat and cooking. That didn't matter, nor did it matter that we were facing the coldest days of the year. I did an end run and called on a Saturday morning and got an emergency delivery. The following Monday, they sent out another truck to give me 14 more gallons. Both times I was charged a HAZMAT fee of $8.95. Funny, my new company doesn't charge that fee. After that week, I changed companies and my new charges are $2.07 per gallon (prices for fuel went up from the time I got that "special" rate from Hocon, and the new company was still $.78 per gallon cheaper and doesn't charge $8.95 for a HAZMAT fee.) If you are looking for a LP provider, DON'T CHOSE HOCON. read more
