Great hobby store with very knowledgeable staff willing to help answer your question. No pressure to buy and plenty of selection from small children toys to high end RC planes and Cars. Breuder toy trucks, wood modeling supplies, paint, 3D filament (super hard to find locally), RC parts for miles. This place has a lot to offer! Not sure why it has bad reviews because it's a great shop with good employees. Chatted with a gentleman for 15mins while he used the crawler course and had a great time. They don't carry equipment or supplies for large outdoorsy train sets that I can't afford right now but there's some rolling stock and hardware and genuine simulated nature and structures for the more common O, HO, and N gauges as well as some pretty interesting slot-car sets, spares, and 'bonus' track sections from all over. Seems like a large chunk of the business is RC: land, water, and air. They got stuff for all levels of interest from ready-to-crash beginner models to total custom jobs for the truly talented and all the price points in between. Counter guys can get way too involved in navel gazing and "collaborations" (impromptu group efforts to try to fix something what's broke) but they will provide useful information if you're patient and bothersome enough. I'll be back when I have the resources for this sort of frivolity, meanwhile I have to go kill some trees. read more

Been shopping at this location for a few months now. Spent 100s of dollars there each time I go in. Last week I purchased a Horizon Super Cub S for my son. I got it home and it wasn't what he wanted for one reason or another. I called to store and told them that the box is unopened and I have the receipt. They said their policy is no return on electronics. They didn't even offer store credit. I'll be taking my business direct to horizon or Amazon. Went here for the first time to buy an rc car as a gift with plans to come back and purchase one for myself. Needless to say, I did not. The staff was cocky and rude. Wasn't interested at all in answering my questions..when they did it was very short and not informative. Soo.. I drove an 1-1/2 hours to Anderson RC in Thomasville. Spend 700.00 dollars in 2 visits on the same day. Bought an RC car for myself. Then went back and got a lot of upgrade parts. Point is...I'll drive as far as it takes for good customer service and this place DID NOT have any type of customer service, let alone good. read more

Super Disappointed.... My husband brought our son for his birthday gift this weekend. The box said "ready to ride" and when they brought it home, there was no battery or charger. You would have thought they would mention or try to sell him these items while purchasing. My husband went back up within the hour and they would not return the item. Horrible customer service. Same thing every-time I go. I walk in and two dude are working who are already helping a customer. I spend 30 minutes walking around looking exasperated and leave, dudes are still talking to the people they were helping when I walked in. I have literally been in the store a half dozen times and every time is the same. No one has ever said "hello" or "can I help you?" Never again. I live up north in Ohio and I travel down to NC a few times a year to visit my 2 grandsons. When I visit we pick a day, go to breakfast and shop at this hobby store. The last time I was down I bought a inexpensive drone which just didn't work right and they wouldn't return it, which left a bad taste in my mouth. Anyway on this current visit I went back to this store again after breakfast, with the intention of spending a few hundred dollars. One of my grandkids had to go to the bathroom, so we looked in the back like we had done in the past. Very rudely one of the employees said, "There is nothing back there for you" I said we were looking for the bathroom, and he said "There are NO public bathrooms here and the nearest one is down the street." I'm not sure when the policy changed and I don't know why he had to be rude, but I thought they didn't need my money anymore and left. I would rather support local brick stores but I will not be returning to this one in the future. read more

I'm not impressed with this outfit. I purchased a transformer for my Lionel train on November 30, 2019. I told the salesman, Daniel, it was for a Lionel and that I didn't know anything about train sets. In fact, I was not sure if it was a bad transformer or a bad train. He said that was ok because I could return the transformer within 30 days if I found out that I didn't need it. On December 10, 2019, I returned the transformer because my problem was apparently the train not the transformer. I was charged 15% re-stocking fee because the transformer was "used." I objected but was told there was nothing else that could be done. I accepted the 15% fee and as this was being transacted, the salesman (not Daniel) asked if this was for an HO set. I told him it was for a Lionel. He said, well, this transformer won't work with Lionel - it is for HO type sets. I objected again to being charged the 15% and he said he could not do anything about it because his computer was set up so as not to be overridden. It is not surprising that this company has such a poor overall rating. The store is a cornucopia of wonderful hobbyist things but apparently the management does not care much about each customer, especially after the sale is made. If you shop here, make sure you know what you are doing and do not expect much from the sales staff or management. read more

I'm been going to this place for years and there is great service, good items. Items like train sets to Electric planes.

We have visited this store many times & spent quite a bit of money here. However, as of this past Friday we will not be back. Both of my sons & nephew have cars from here. The youngest (11yrs old) decided he wanted to start his search after my oldest graduated Friday from NTI. We went to HT & started looking. We were met by one kid who was rudely challenged my 11 year old about his car knowledge. The guy behind the counter was making smart comments & when asked what he said his reply was "I'm talking to myself". After we decided NOT to buy from HT our son was upset. He walked away holding back his tears, which turned into hyperventilation and then a panic attack. This all happened in HT and we now had a very scared child who could not stop shaking bc he was frightened, his body hurting from improper oxygen circulation and wouldn't let us touch him. We finally had to call 911 where the fire department arrived as well as an ambulance. After about 30 min he was transported to the ER where he received treatment, calmed down & released. The EMS team in the ambulance and Lake Norman were great. HOWEVER.... Hobby Town employees and the crew from the Fire Department were the worst we've ever encountered! A family member walked back into Hobby Town and observed employees & the Fire Department laughing at our son and making inappropriate comments amongst themselves and patrons. This was absolutely unacceptable, unprofessional on all & beyond rude! We will NEVER spend another penny in HT and will tell everyone about our experience from the moment we walked through the door on Oct16th. read more

I have bought many drones and Traxxas RC cars etc etc etc and today was the worst experience I have ever had; guy told me they don't sell cables for the Mavic Pro to go to Best Buy to purchase from them...... wow I guess I will no longer purchase ANYTHING from them and start buying from a new company!!! I visited this store today looking for a training quadcopter. I met several nice salespeople. However, one ruined the experience for me. I found a Latrax Alias that seemed nice and recommended by a couple of the salespeople. I looked the quad up on my iphone and it gets good ratings. There was one unit that was discounted and had a sticker saying it was factory refurbished. When I asked what that meant, the salesperson that was helping me enlisted the help of another man who knew about that unit. He explained the situation and I decided to buy. The same man suggested that I get extra batteries. When I asked him how much they were each, he quoted a price $4.00 higher each than the price I had seen on Amazon. I mentioned this to him and his demeanor immediately turned negative and he stated " let me give you some advice, people that work in hobby shops don;t want to hear that". He went on to lecture me rudely about Amazon and the situation. As a 57-year-old President of a local company, I was dismayed by this treatment and poor level of customer service. The end result was me leaving without making a purchase and extremely upset over the way I was treated. I feel sorry for the store owner who has lost a customer forever. I am ordering the product online, as I suggest anyone reading this post do. read more

If you buy something and need to return it, make sure you do it within their 30 day period. I understand not being able to get back my money, but this particular Hobby Town won't even give store credit. Very frustrating. My kids would have loved this store and to come back to get something they would actually use. I might have even spent more money. Now, I won't go back and will order on line. read more
