The positive: The selection of products and sales are fantastic and the associates who work on the floor are always helpful and polite, especially Bill in the framing dept. The negative: Every manager and/or assistant manager we have encountered here for over many years has been rude in their interactions with us. Answers to our queries are short and without a smile or pleasant comments. They've also not acknowledged us as customers if the associate has a question regarding our items at checkout. Very surprising that a Christian company would consistently employ miserable people in the managerial position. What kind of an example are they to the public of a joyful follower of Christ? And if they aren't a Christian, perhaps Hobby Lobby should be reconsidering who they hire to represent their company. read more

I'm not Crafty. Handy yes. Cranky sometimes. Schwifty definitely. But Crafty no way people. So after all the clamps and restraints were painfully put in place, I decided to Give Up, grab a cart, and give this store a look see. And what do you know, Yup, it's a craft store alright, juust like I thought it would be. And juust like it says on the 40 foot sign on the front of the building.    Aaaand let's see what's down Every isle why don't we. sure, great. How many glue guns does one person need? "what? nothing, nevermind" wow alot of fake flowers up in here too. And what is this thing for? "Put it in the cart already!" of course. "This place is Freakin HUGE, are you sure we can't just skip a few isles?" "NO!" [of course not I said while testing my restraints]    And then it happened. I got it, "it's all clearly right in front of me like a thousand inspirational signs which were obviously made just for yours truly. I asked the greeter to help me find something since she seemed so nice to the families walking in. First she looked at me like I had two heads, then she vaguely pointed in a direction. After going that way and looking for 10 minutes, who do I see but the same woman, who had walked someone over to the same section I was in and was literally helping them pick out the items they needed. I don't know why she was so nice to everyone but me, but I gave up looking at that point and left the store. I won't be back. read more

I had heard tales of Hobby Lobby and went today with my mother in law. We were always shoppers of Michaels, AC Moore and sometimes Jo-Ann's but it wasnt unusual to leave those stores disappointed about something. Hobby Lobby did not disappoint though!!!!! They had everything i was looking for and then some. The store is clean and spread out, overwhelming but organized. Everytime i picked something up and thought, "this is expensive.." - there would be a 50% off sticker on it. Huge, huge fake floral section section and a decent sized fabric section. The store easily has a wider variety of supplies than the other craft stores - its almost like a Michaels plus half of a home goods. Im not sure what the previous reviewer was referring to, but for anyone who looking for a wide variety of crafts and home decor supplies, this is the perfect spot. For anyone who doesnt partake in crafty ventures, stay away - you will not like this huge craft store. Honestly, if I can help it, I will probably never go to the other craft stores again. read more

This place has everything. It's like a TJMaxx and a craft store in one. Sometimes they have better prices and some times they don't. I did get an item here that I couldn't find anywhere else. Service is good also. Employees drop what they are doing to show you where to find an item. They also have coupons online and a smartphone app that offers coupons on non sale items. Yikes. I'll never step foot into this place again and will join the existing ranks of those who boycott this chain. Let me tell you why. Once I found out what was under construction in this poorly conceived commercial area, I had to wonder why a craft store chain would choose to build a brand new, oversized big box type building - during a depressed economy - in a perpetually depressed area - in the immediate vicinity of three other big box craft stores. Their answer to this question? Their invisible sky wizard told them to. Seriously. It says so in their mission statement. I didn't know this ahead of time, and curiosity (and their cutesy name) got the best of me, so I recently went to check this place out. I already had the notion that they were insane to think that the Scranton area could support a *fourth* big box craft store. Here are the basics: - the store is clean (new) and enormous - Hobby Lobby tries to be the jack-of-all-crafts by virtue of size and selection, yet fails to excel in any particular area (except for one) - That one area in which they excel? Here's a hint: the date of my visit was September 25 and I did not take notice of any Halloween merchandise - The three nearby competitors (JoAnn Fabric, A.C. Moore and Michaels) each excel in specific departments - Checkout is poorly marked and crammed into a smallish area (given the size of the store) with tallish walls and no indication of who is available to ring you up - The bare fluorescent lights that run the full length of the ceiling are harsh and unappealing - Even though the store literally just opened, there is already a clearance section... huh? - While walking around, plenty of zombie-like employees shuffled around looking pretty miserable Furthermore: - The name "Hobby Lobby" sounds like a store that should carry things that appeal to more than just the church lady/cat lady/holiday-sweater-wearing crowd. For example, there is no model train merchandise. - The selection of fabric - across the board - is pathetic. Maybe 10% of what JoAnn offers, at best. - On the other hand, the selection of home accessories and decor is excessive; there is nothing especially distinctive one couldn't already find at Pier 1, Target, Burlington Coat Factory, TJ Maxx/Marshall's, etc. Finally: - They are closed on Sundays with a sign near the door proclaiming that this allows their employees to "worship." Brilliant. Closed for 50% of the weekend. This is a small market with 3 major competitors all of which are open for at least 9 hours on Sundays. - Not only did they lack Halloween merchandise (their website yields just 53 items when searching for "Halloween," most of which are listed under "scrapbooking"), they have a huge selection of religious items. Did you need a bible verse doormat, an entire aisle of religious greeting cards or maybe feel the need to update your collection of crosses (127 different crosses to choose from, but only 53 Halloween related items)? This is the place to go. - Hobby Lobby is suing the federal government over the Affordable Care Act, even in the wake of the Supreme Court decision, because it feels it has the right to shove its twisted agenda down its employees' throats. I find this reprehensible. It is not, under any circumstances, the place of an employer to dictate the private medical choices of an employee. Thankfully, Scranton consumers have a choice, even if Hobby Lobby is anti-choice. My choices: The highest quality and best selection of silk flowers with stellar service and decades of arrangement experience? Visit Keen's Floral in Greenridge (seriously). A vast selection of fabrics in every texture, density, pattern, color or application you can think of? JoAnn, naturally. Framing? Michaels or any independent framer. Baking, candy or t-shirts? A.C. Moore. Anything else? Anywhere but Hobby Lobby. read more

I LOVE this Hobby Lobby! They have everything that I could imagine ever needing for my craft business. Went there out of curiosity after reading the review by Colin P. Unfortunately, I don't consider his rambling a review but rather believe he was trying to make a political statement. The prices are great, merchandise is quality and I found the employees to be extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They went out of their way to answer my questions and led me to the exact products I was looking for. As a long time Michael's shopper, it it now Hobby Lobby for me. Was so excited to see Hobby Lobby come to town and love the selection. However: 1. I find the prices to be higher 2. The quality of some of their items is just really bad 3. I HATE their checkout system 4. What is on "sale" always seems to be open to interpretation 5. I was there yesterday just to see wha they had and it is a crafters heaven. If you are a hobbiest, this is not your store. But fabric? The patterns are different than Jo-Ann's. If you want inspirational encouragement, check out the wall plaques, if you are looking for miniatures, they have a selection of them. Not so in the other craft stores. They have a large selection of every craft supply. Often I have had to go from one store to another or have had to settle for alternative things. I don't see that happening at Hobby Lobby. The flower section is huge and orderly with unusual pieces. Prices are in line with the other craft stores, the store is well lit and spacious. Pleasant music is playing in the background while you go from aisle to aisle picking up ideas. My family really enjoyed our visit , we strolled around 3 hours and I had to strongly encourage them to leave. We had 2 full wagons! I saw some fall themed items but no Halloween (witches, ghosts and goblins). I am guessing that is based on the corporations Christian values. Bravo. So many people are afraid to express their belief in God. It is a shame that there are so few who will take that stand. For me and my family, we can't wait to go back again. read more

Hobby Lobby is awesome! It's a mix between Home Goods and Michaels, but with friendly, helpful employees. If you call, an actual person cheerfully answers by the second ring. I initially checked them out in order to show support in the midst of their court battle, but found that they are incredible! Hobby Lobby rocks! In response to Colin, you appear to have done a lot of in-store research (you counted the variety of crosses?), but your research seems to stop short of the real story. HL already provided their employees with 16 of 20 contraceptive choices in their benefit package. They drew the line at abortifation drugs. They also have the right of conscience to do so. You proclaim to be pro-choice, but I'm just curious--what choice does the baby have? The father? The grandparents? In fact, what choice does the mother have, since 60% of the time she chooses abortion it's under duress, with a lifelong negative impact? Just wondering. read more

I took my daughter here a few times when it first opened. The prices where a little high and some stuff is definitely cheap. A lot of the metal chains my daughter used for necklaces broke. I don't go in there unless I have a coupon now. When I first went there I thought we would be going there a lot more, but now we mostly get our supplies online again. read more

Just to quickly respond to Colin's review, I hardly think the store is pushing their agenda on anyone. They offer a benefit package, if an employee doesnt find it suits their needs, they are free to go elsewhere. That is how the free market works and news flash: that actually is the principal on which this country has prospered. That being said, it doesnt look like they are having a hard time finding people who want to work there. Politics aside though, I really really love this store. They have literally everything, the store is huge. We just re-did my daughters room with a beach/underwater theme. i thought it was going to be hard to do but one trip to this store and we had most of what we needed. I left there the other day thinking their baskets were pricey, only to find them more expensive at target. Plus on both the hobby lobby app and on the website, they have a daily coupon for 40% off of your most expensive item. You don't even have to print the coupon, you can just pull it up on your phone. You could go there every day and buy one thing and save 40% on everything you buy. We always buy bday presents here for our kids friends bc of that reason. Plus the employees seem friendly and extremely knowledgable compared to the other craft stores. I think its a great place. read more
