I bought a new $200 r/c rock crawler. out of the box on my first test run I noticed something wrong with the took it back to headquarters expecting a warranty service or something for a brand new machine that had a defective steering servo. That did not happe. customer service was horrible plain and simple. No offer to fix no offer to replace only Pay them to fix it or buy the parts and fix it myself. such a bummer it is a cool store. read more

I spent $400 + on an electric P 51 Mustang. (Plane, transmitter, charger and two batteries) I flew the plane one time. It was a while before I got it out again. It stopped working. I tried everything. No luck. I took it back to the store and was told the batteries were no good. That I had to keep them charged up or they go flat. My only solution: buy new batteries. ($20 apiece) I'm not too enthused with that. All I'm saying is that the store should have told me this when I purchased everything. I'm not a Lipo expert. read more

Wow! What a gem! If you are into building things, racing things, being creative.. this I the store to go to. Floor to ceiling stocked with awesome items that would all make great gifts. Customer service was very friendly, and I was greeted right away which I always appreciate. I noted in another review that someone said it was hot in the shop, and I must say it was a bit warm on a chilly morning inside, so it is a little stuffy in the shop. We came it to look at RC cars and supplies. Its a nice size shop, but hotter than the first 3 levels of hell inside. I had to use the bathroom. Oh my lord. It was worse than a cave in there. The lighting was so awful the ADA stall was so dimly lit I could barely see the toilet. Thankfully, I camp and can navigate a dark bathroom. But this place was hideous. It made you wonder what they were trying to hide. Afterwards I approached a young lady and explained my experience and she completely commiserated with me and said the owner keeps replacing the bulbs but they keep going out. She then indicated that half of the interior lights are also out. I suggested he check the ballast on the lights. She thought that was a good idea. Note: I travel with a service dog and this place gets Baileys 4paw approval. No access issues at all. They did not have the ramp I was looking for, nor the car he was looking for, but he liked talking to the ghy behind the counter. I liked the miniature collection. My dad is building his train layout and is always looking for the next thing to add, so I bought him a gift card for his upcoming birthday. They also suggested a place out in Madera to look at. I gave this place 3 stars this time because it was so hot inside, it was actually cooler outside. The heat actually got to the mr. making him feel sick. Even 10 mins in the car with the AC on full wasn't enough. I have never seen him react like that in the 9 years we've been together. Annnd theres the nasty cave toilet area. We will likely come back, and my rating can change if those conditions improve. The staff were friendly and they had a pretty good collecrion of all things hobby. read more

I know it says currently I only have 1 check-in here, but I've been here half a dozen times easily. The thing is I have bad cell service in A-Town and usually I'm too stoked to remember to pull out my phone. The guys who work here are serious experts. Show up with a random part or piece of something and chances are they kind, solder it, replace it, fix, find you a new one, or tell you how to attach it. I've gotten tools and parts and pieces here for my Slash 4x4 and they have an enormous selection of parts for multiple RC disciplines. Feel free to ask questions, dumb ones too and they'll happily break things down Barney style. On the weekends, (or at least Saturday) that have a track setup in the parking lot to run your vehicles around. If you ever need coaching tips, and are tired of ordering the wrong thing online or just watching YouTube videos, these guys are the real life pros. read more

I have spent over $500 there trying to support local business rather than going online. 2 RC helicopters later and over 500 bucks; this local will not be back. After doing my research online (I'm an engineer; I like that sort of thing.) I had settled on what I believed to be a good, non-3D, RC Helicopter. First of all, the guy who rung me up... Really? Full tattoo sleeves and a bad attitude like yours does not have a place in a toy store, nor on a man your age (I don't mind tattoos at all... On nice people). I would also bet he has the over built rock crawling truck I see parked outside the store all the time, apparently his "commuter" car. The best customer service I saw was the small break he took from me to go try and get the married, attractive Mom of two, to play the RC flight simulator while she was sitting on the stool for it while her kids looked around. After ringing me up (over $250) this dialogue started up behind the counter where the two employees stood. I may have swapped who said what, but this is the jist of it. Employee #1: "Ha, I guess I owe you lunch!" Tattoos: "Haha, yeah." Turning to me, "We had a bet going to see who could actually sell this thing." I couldn't believe what I was hearing; but was too excited about my new toy to let it get me too down at the time. After a couple weeks, I 'landed' the helicopter in an unknown location high in an eucalyptus tree :( Trying to keep it short, my tip would be DO YOUR RESEARCH ON THE TOYS YOU WANT TO BUY BEFORE GOING IN (Or buy online) They will lie straight to your face in an attempt to up-sell you. Had I not done my research I would have: #1) been way more susceptible to their push for an equivalent chopper for $40 more. #2) They were asking $40 (separate experience from #1) over retail price (and the price I previously paid for the other 2, same exact choppers) Upon asking why so much more than the previous 2 choppers I had bought from them, no answer could be given and it was also noted the prices were non-negotiable. If one wants to keep customers and compete with online stores, one better not be grossly over priced (a little is ok), as well as provide good customer service rather than belittling them. I walked out for Hobby Headquarters for the last time. Upon talking about these experiences at Hobby Headquarters in Atascadero with people from work; it was clear these were not isolated experiences. Time for a new hobby shop to open and put these guys out in my opinion. read more

My buddy and I are avid plastic modelers who attend school at Cal Poly. One afternoon we found that we were running low on Tamiya Flat Black paint (which is something all modelers can relate with I'm sure) so a quick search turned up Hobby Headquarters, just some 10-15 minutes away from campus. So we hopped into his car and took off. Upon entering the store, we were greeted with the familiar air of a hobby store. We made our way to the plastic model aisle, which didn't have much inventory. However, it had a very interesting selection. Hobby Headquarters stocked a good number of 1/72 and 1/48 Hasegawa airplanes which are amazing kits for the value, and even had a couple of Hasegawa's adorable little egg planes. They also had a couple Tamiya 1/24 scale cars, in addition to the ubiquitous dudebro Revell cars. What struck us was the variety of good kits that Hobby Headquarters had in stock, with some very interesting and enticing selections. Hasegawa's Israeli AH-64 Apache, 1/72 Ace Combat edition F-14 Tomcat, 1/72 P-40N Warhawk, 1/72 two-in-one set of JGSDF AH-1s with the anime girl decals, and more. They even had Trumpter's 1/48 P-40B, so if you're into P-40s, this store gives you options. Anyway, I don't know how this store stocks plastic model kits, but whoever's the staff member that orders which models to sell is doing a damn good job. read more

I have been to this store and purchase over $3000 on drones, RC trucks and several other items for the past two years. When i try to inquire on the warrantee on the items because my son 11-year-old had broken a shock I figure I was just going to go and Purchase a replace shock but instead I ended up talking to this fat ugly short smelly over-the-counter attitude person, somehow I felt that the question had offended him, he tells me that shit doesn't last forever, I had just bought it last year but the reason why I asked was not because of the broken shock that was broken because shit happens my son broke the shock Playing with the toy. It was that he tells me that I'm going to have to replace the motor and the battery which the battery I had just bought about six months ago for this RC remote control trucks I don't believe that the motors in those RC trucks are only going to last one year. Well! Unfortunately for him he's not gonna be in business very long I recommended nobody go shop at that store it looks to me like he is a very racist redneck oh yes I am Latin born in Colombia but I sure you I don't disrespect anybody for the color of their skin. It I asked him for the phone number of the owner and he said he was the owner I doubt that very much but the owner of the shop should be very concerned because his business might not be there next year due to the idiot that he has working for him however if he is the owner he obviously needs to just retire or just close the shop but nobody should be put through that kind of abuse he doesn't realize that the $5000 I was going to get ready to spend on another drone a boat, and a jet plane for my son, He's never going to see. read more

Went in there for the first time today. I was welcomed by a surprisingly large selection of anything and everything RC and not to mention an extremely helpful staff. It being Christmas they didn't have the car I wanted but we easily ordered it along with a temp sensor for the engine. We were helped out by a timid guy but when we got down to business he definitely knew his stuff. Next time I go in I'll try to catch his name. I may come back and edit this if I have problems with the order process but other than that I definitely recommend the store! read more

Got a drone for Christmas from there. Third time I used it one of the motors stopped working. I took it back and they told me I crashed it and they couldn't help. It was never crashed, still looks brand new. But they would charge me to install a new one. Instead I bought a motor from them and was going to install myself. I'm a mechanic and have built many RC projects in the past. When I pulled the bad motor out I saw the wires were pinched, and melted together from when the motor was installed. Obviously the motor didn't stop working from "Crash damage". So I took it back again and showed them what happened. Seemed like he believed me, but still couldn't help me because I had taken it apart already and told me to contact the manufacturer. Shouldn't they stand behind the products they sell? I didn't assemble it incorrectly. You buy a car at a dealership, and have a problem, they don't send you to the manufacturer. I found the same drone cheaper on eBay, next time I want to purchase an RC that's what I will do, since I can always contact the manufacturer myself. read more

I recently went in there to look at quadcopters, the guy there knew his stuff. He spent about 20 minutes showing me different models and what their pros and cons were. I left without buying one because I wanted to do a little more research. I checked for prices online and hobby headquarters was very competitive on prices, especially for a local shop. I went in and bought the model I liked the most and had them order me a spare battery. They didn't require me to pay for or even put a deposit on the battery before ordering it, they called me 2 days later saying it was in. read more

I have been in the market for a drone. I stopped in yesterday after doing some stuff in Paso. I was planning on buying one in store, but I would've had to purchas some other parts separately. Upon looking at those parts with the sales guy on their computer, we found a drone that I had ultimately wanted and cost about the same if not cheaper than the one I would've bought along with extras. Needless to say, we ordered the drone and it came in the very next day. They made me into a returning customer for as long as they are in business. Thanks guys. read more

Bought a RC car for my husband for Christmas, I lost the receipt unfortunately. I was suppose to receive a $10 gift card (which I was not made aware of and was not given) Went back to try get my $10 card and even though I showed proof on my bank statement of my purchase I was told I needed the paper receipt. Spent $215 and they could not honor a measly $10? We were treated rudely and I would NOT recommend buying anything from this store. You are better buying off of eBay where you will receive a better warranty when paying through PayPal. They lost a customer over a measly $10. Never shopping here again! read more

When you need help, talk to Marlin: he does good work and he does when he says needs to be done. I wish they had a similar store in San Luis Obispo. Good inventory, staff knows their stuff, and they will assess your skill level and inorm you what RC planes to buy, and which ones to omit, for now. Prices are very competitive, so shopping around isn't necessary. It's a fun place to visit, but then again, I am an RC addict! read more
