Make sure to look up and down or you just might miss something. There's a mixture of items in the store- vintage furniture, modern day clothing, 1970s decor- they have it all. We even went back the next day because we ran out of time. *BE FORWARNED** There isn't a public restroom available! You will have to go across the track to the cafe.

I came in to check this place out while waiting to meet up with a friend - quite a fortunate find!…read more The first thing I was struck by is how enormous this places. It's not much to look at from outside as it's an old warehouse, but once you get inside the place you find that it's huge. Around the outside at least in the first third of the store are cases with more valuable antiques, small trinket he antiques and plenty of dolls and figurines. They're organized in a somewhat reasonable fashion, but there does tend to be a lot of random this within the different cases. As you continue to the store and realize how far back the place goes, you're treated two small areas that function as separate rooms with specific types of antiques. There's some great cowboy themed ones, plenty of bedroom type antiques and one of the biggest hat sections I've ever seen in the store like this. It was very impressive, and even if you're not looking for anything in particular, there's enough stuff here that you will probably find something you're interested in. When I came back up front, I found that there was a birdcage with a number of small birds inside. They seemed very nice! All things considered, this is a really cool and really big antique shop that is worth your time, before or after you visit the brewery next-door!

All profits go to support the Union Gospel Mission and as it were, it's the old Union Gospel Mission that was then transitioned into a store when they outgrew the space. It flows like the bottom level of the hotel, and now we know why! The selection of stuff is pretty vast, ranging from kitchen items, clothing, plenty of trinkets and a pretty good vinyl section. As with most thrift stores there's plenty of stuff that probably won't go with your current house, but while in there I was able to find a good number of things that did actually go with ours. Of all the thrift stores in the area that I've been in, I really felt like this one was the nicest, knowing that everything goes towards a good cause probably meant I bought a few more things. This place is an absolute must check out for anyone who likes going searching for something you didn't know you needed!

The first thing I noticed about this place is that most of the items they have are in good shape and there was very little junk. There are plenty of antique stores where most of the items are just trash found in an attic that folks assume is valuable. Here, it looks like everything is brought in by different vendors and then priced - I love this aspect of capitalism! Incentivizing people to bring their best stuff and promoting competition. Items ranged from farmhouse type antiques, all the way down to a small children section. We found a cat in the hat Dr. Seuss dictionary that was pretty legit. They also had more recent options like beanie babies as well as some antique themed novelty shirts. What we didn't find anything that we absolutely needed at home, there were plenty of options and this is definitely the sort of place that I will probably run through when I'm downtown and have a couple extra minutes. Well worth checking out.

And wander I did in Churchill's, through shelf after shelf of fiction, non fiction, vintage titles. I eventually left with a paperback I'd never heard of, a first edition of one of my old favorites, and a cool 1980 comic book that just struck my fancy. But more than the things I bought, what I really found in the meandering shelves of this little bookshop was the sense that there could be some treasure waiting for me around the next corner. In this little space filled with books of all kinds, Churchill's captures the feeling of discovery that all good bookstores have and online bookstores just can't replicate. My kids weren't with me this time, but I could hear them as I wrapped up my visit to Churchill's bookshop. "Come ON Dad, let's goooo already." I had to smile. I can always tell it's a great bookstore when I can hear my kids telling me I've spent too long wandering its shelves.
