When I refused, he became angry. I don't know if he's merely incompetent or if he's dishonest, but I'd never take any thing to him again. He becomes angry too easily. If you love vintage, antiques, collectibles, or just wandering around looking at random treasures, you absolutely need to stop here. They have VINYL RECORDS GALORE. I'm talking rows and rows of records, with so many different genres and eras to dig through. You could spend forever just browsing the record selection. And the antiques and collectibles?! TONS. There is so much to look at that you really need to take your time because you'll probably notice something new every few minutes. Vintage clothing, toys, furniture, decor, records, artwork, and so many unique little pieces that you don't see every day. I also loved how much personality the store has. It feels like stepping into a giant time capsule filled with treasures from different decades. Every corner has something interesting going on, and it's the kind of place where you want to slowly wander around rather than rush through. The first thing I noticed about this place is that most of the items they have are in good shape and there was very little junk. There are plenty of antique stores where most of the items are just trash found in an attic that folks assume is valuable. Here, it looks like everything is brought in by different vendors and then priced - I love this aspect of capitalism! Incentivizing people to bring their best stuff and promoting competition. Items ranged from farmhouse type antiques, all the way down to a small children section. We found a cat in the hat Dr. Seuss dictionary that was pretty legit. They also had more recent options like beanie babies as well as some antique themed novelty shirts. What we didn't find anything that we absolutely needed at home, there were plenty of options and this is definitely the sort of place that I will probably run through when I'm downtown and have a couple extra minutes. Churchill's Booklovers Haunt is just the kind of place I love and my kids get annoyed about. I get…read moreit. When I'm set loose into a good bookstore, I tend to wander. And wander I did in Churchill's, through shelf after shelf of fiction, non fiction, vintage titles. I eventually left with a paperback I'd never heard of, a first edition of one of my old favorites, and a cool 1980 comic book that just struck my fancy. But more than the things I bought, what I really found in the meandering shelves of this little bookshop was the sense that there could be some treasure waiting for me around the next corner. In this little space filled with books of all kinds, Churchill's captures the feeling of discovery that all good bookstores have and online bookstores just can't replicate. My kids weren't with me this time, but I could hear them as I wrapped up my visit to Churchill's bookshop. "Come ON Dad, let's goooo already." I had to smile. I can always tell it's a great bookstore when I can hear my kids telling me I've spent too long wandering its shelves.
