They provided me with the immediate care that I needed. I am grateful for all that they did for me and my family. In addition, Dr. Bethany Roy was my doctor on Farr 11. She and her staff were amazing! They helped me understand my medical conditions. They provided me with the tests I required at the time, and they set up future medical appointments. I appreciate all that they did for me.

Come Monday. They switch to another doctor. They are now saying no. They said they were bringing in a third party for independent review. That was bullshit . We have waited all day and exhausted. They rotate doctors so you are not talking to the one following her the first week. This place is more running around with these young people and put zero care into the patients. She had no history or knowledge or anything. My mom didn't have an iv. At the end of the day she comes in and asks. I said why. Where were you all all day ? When I arrived, I was told by the woman at the front desk that I needed to go to X-ray. I was confused because I had been told I was getting an MRI, so I simply asked for clarification about why X-rays were needed. Instead of explaining, the staff member repeatedly told me, "You need to go to X-rays," in a very dismissive and condescending manner. She then directed me to the wrong location, which left me even more frazzled. When I returned and explained that I had been sent to the wrong place, she looked at me as though I had said something completely unreasonable and responded again in an unnecessarily condescending tone. Unfortunately, the experience did not improve when I reached the X-ray department. Another woman from the orthopedics office came in and spoke to me very harshly about the fact that my referral was only for one knee, even though I had explained that I was experiencing problems with both knees. She abruptly told me that because the referral was for only one knee, that was the only knee they would address that day. I understand that there may be policies or referral requirements that staff need to follow. My issue was not with the policy--it was with the unnecessarily rude and brash way the information was communicated to me. At that point, I was so upset that I nearly walked out of the appointment altogether. Thankfully, there were a couple of kind and helpful people in the X-ray department who treated me with respect and were essentially the reason I stayed. Overall, I was extremely disappointed by the lack of basic courtesy, empathy, and professionalism I experienced from multiple members of the orthopedics staff. Patients coming into an orthopedic office may already be in pain, nervous, or worried about what is wrong. Asking a reasonable question should not result in being spoken down to or made to feel like a nuisance. I want to make clear that Dr. McCarthy was not part of this negative experience. My concerns are specifically with the interactions I had with other members of the orthopedics staff. I left feeling embarrassed, overwhelmed, and in tears. No patient should be made to feel that way simply for asking questions and trying to understand their care. The customer service and manner in which I was treated were unacceptable, and I sincerely hope this feedback is addressed.

With the highly regarded GI department within the whole BIDMC network, I decided to give the ED a try rather than traveling a little further. I was very impressed with how taken care of I was - they had phone chargers available for me to keep my family updated and took my pre-existing conditions very seriously. I was in a positive pressure room with notices to be mindful of my compromised immune system/other factors. The nurses and transport team members who took care of me were very wonderful, as were the residents assigned to my case. While I quickly got symptom relief, I was discharged following tests/imaging that came back as nonemergent. This made complete sense, but I never got clear follow-up from anyone about abnormal lab work or anything. Even the nurses discharging me seemed confused about this. They also sent me home at about 3am, which was a little frustrating as I wasn't given clear information why. My levels plus it being the middle of the night should have warranted an overnight stay, and I never got a major follow-up from anyone which was a little irritating. I ended up talking further with my specialist about everything. Overall, I appreciated how well I was taken care of, but had a subpar experience with communication from the team taking care of me.

But this experience was HORRENDOUS!! The doctor absolutely butchered my skin, leaving 4 inch x 1 inch divots in my skin for moles smaller than a dime. The worst part is that she did this in front of medical students so they were learning how to butcher other patients. Unfortunately these scars were on my back, so I couldn't stop the process. If I'd known, I would have gotten off the table and cursed her out in front of her students. Maybe then she would have learned to treat the human body with respect???!!!! Oh, and don't get me started with their "photography", or lack there of...they absolutely do NOT take appropriate photographic records that will be helpful to future dermatologists. The photos that were taken of my back had NO reference points, so you couldn't tell if the photo was of my leg, stomach, arm, or back. Truly, the process, lack of systematic examination and record keeping, the violation of a human body, and the insensitive manner of the doctor were beyond unprofessional...Sadistic would be a good term for the experience. At the end of the day, she obviously was a Sadist. Future doctors, PLEASE understand that you are treating a human, not a car or inanimate object. Minimizing scarring is a big part of good dermatology as it allows the patient to feel *better* about a traumatic event. Treat your patients with respect and they won't write BAD YELP REVIEWS... And for those of you med students who think you are getting the "Best" of medical training...head West, far West. The medical care in California is FAR superior to that I've received in Boston. Hmmm...that reminds me, I really must post some nice reviews for the many docs in CA that I respect and enjoyed being in their care.
