I may have unintentionally left out other carers that I am not aware of. All the staff at Select Specialy Hospital in Miami Lakes are great. From day one, the staff has been welcoming, professional, and supportive. The therapists are knowledgeable and truly take the time to explain things not just to patients but also to students like me. You can tell they care about getting people better, not just going through the motions. Management runs the clinic really well. Everything is organized, and the environment feels positive and efficient. There's a strong sense of teamwork between everyone, which makes the whole place feel like a family. They handle scheduling and patient flow smoothly, and you always see someone checking in to make sure everything's running right. The patients also bring a great energy to the clinic. It sort of looks like a hospital more than a home too. The staff though has always been very helpful and on top of everything. As soon as I've entered I have always been acknowledged and they made sure I was being helped. I speak Spanish so I can easily get around and ask questions, but for residents or people coming in who don't, it can be difficult to communicate. There's always someone who speaks English but most staff is Spanish speaking. Entering the actual home is a little like a maze. If you don't know your way around, you'll easily get lost. But the rooms are from 2-4 depending on I guess what you pay. There's a big dining room area, a couple of TV areas, and a small courtyard with a fountain and plants.

I wanted to take the time to recognize Jeidis Ravelo. My brother had been seriously injured and…read moreafter he was discharged from the hospital, he continued to decline at home. I live in Virginia and was trying to help my family in Miami figure out what to do. When I first called Jeidis, my brother wasn't even a patient at West Gables. She listened to my concerns and continued to take my calls when she really didn't have to. She kept us informed through the process and was always honest that there were no guarantees. When we finally got the news that my brother was approved for West Gables, Jeidis was genuinely happy for us. She immediately helped arrange transportation and made sure there was a bed ready for him. Once he arrived, they found additional medical issues that needed attention, which made me even more grateful that she had listened when I kept saying something wasn't right. Sometimes when you're dealing with hospitals and insurance, you just need one person who actually listens and cares. For our family, that person was Jeidis. I told her she was an angel and I meant it. West Gables is very lucky to have her.

Following a recent transient stroke and stent surgery we were told that he needed to go back to intensive inpatient therapy facility. Multiple therapies at Jackson and UM recommended West Gables, so I fought to get him there. HUGE MISTAKE. This place is a JOKE. We are a very involved and present family, and are there daily, for at least 8 hours. The neurologist is disgusting and rude. I spoke to him 1 time, he dismissed me, cut me off, said he wasn't going to spend time going back and forth with me when I was asking about changes made they made to my dad's medication, and we never saw him again, although my dad is a neuro patient. Most therapist don't want to do anything, if he is scheduled for an hour and a half, he might get 30 minutes. Jessica is one of their OTs, she's the main one that cuts his therapy time. My dad is 6'2" and weighs 240 lbs, which apparently is problem for every there because they all run when it's time to change him or move him. My dad is supposed to there for a we more days but we are requesting an early discharge. We rather have him home. Finally, the room itself is in bad conditions. Hole on the wall, patchy work, dirty blinds, no equipment for each patient in the rooms. Just don't do it!

They take 4-5 patients at a time leaving one patient to work independently while they retrieve another patient to add. They are DISHONEST regarding progress and ability . This leads to hostile discharges. My mother was NOT able to walk 100 feet or perform daily living activities such as dressing herself. She was not ready physically to leave rehab but the notes they provided had doctors deciding otherwise.

Their excellent attention starts the minute the patient enters. They ask about her personality, needs, details so they can cater to the patient. We are going to be able to leave her here long term.
