Called about the $59 furnace tune-up special. Talked to a very nice lady who scheduled me, then started to tell me about a VIP plan she was "giving" me. Said there would be no charge for the cleaning. I asked about a monthly fee, she said none. I asked again, you mean no charge for this? Yes... Then I go online to find out that for my furnace it's $14 a month for this "free" plan. NOT a great way to start. About 20yrs ago, I had them clean an oil furnace at my prior home. Guy came in and cleaned it, said the belt was loose, needed a new one. He replaced it, he but had a terrible time getting the belt on. A few weeks later, the motor burned out. $400 to replace it. He checked the motor when he cleaned the furnace, no problem with it then. I'm pretty sure the new belt he used was the wrong size and that's what burnt out the motor. read more

We paid for the maintenance program with HL Bowman for at least 2 years and never used it. May 1st their technician Brett came out to service the furnace and AC unit. While he was here Brett continuously tried to up charge us with services. - it was extremely uncomfortable. Fast forward, July 2nd our AC unit stop working and when it did run was not efficient. Another HVAC company came out on an emergency call. Our AC unit had not been touched!! It was completely disgusting. Brett had not done anything to service it. - I truly do not like to complain but I felt this needed to be shared more as a PSA. read more

HL Bowman - This is what the HVAC technician found today. I don't this could have been accumulated in only 2 months - Plumbing Near Me - Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

Do not go with HL Bowman. Call around for specialized local work. -They quote you at least 4x as much as anyone else would. -They will tell you something is broken when it isn't. Recently had someone come out for my water not working at my house. Technician came out and said water pump was dead. Quoted 7k for replacement with labor. Got two other quotes. Ended up with going with another contractor for 1.5k. Contractor from other company came out and found the water pump working it just needed new cabling now its close to $500. Never again. read more

If I could leave a negative number of stars, I would. We've dealt with H L Bowman in the past and never had a problem, but this time was a complete and utter disaster. We hired them to fix a leaky shower. They turned the water off to the shower, but said they didn't have the parts to fix it. It's still shut off. While they were here, they managed to talk my wife into installing a water softener and having a new water line run from the curb to our house. I think the total bill was something like $14,000. The day they were supposed to show up, the water softener guys arrived and did a decent job. The guys who were supposed to run the new water line to our house didn't show up. Turns out they somehow got the date wrong. So I had to take another day off work to be home when they got here. They were supposed to dig a hole by the curb and run the pipe in through the ground. After a couple hours trying to do that, they told me the ground was too hard and they'd have to dig a trench all the way to my basement wall. The trench went right through a brick-bordered flowerbed in front of our house - they made no effort to move the bricks out of the way, they just dug them up and buried them with the backfill. They also asked if they could tear out one of the bushes that have been growing in front of our house for decades. I grudgingly agreed - and they tore two bushes out. When they finally got the line to the house, it turns out they misjudged where it was supposed to come in - they were off by about 5 feet. So they had to dig a new hole in my basement wall and then jury-rig a Frankenstein-like mess of zig-zagging pipes held up by straps nailed to the ceiling (!) to get the pipe over to where it was supposed to come in. The end result looks like crap. While digging the trench, they hit a power line. After finishing installing the pipe, they called PP&L, but they didn't stick around to find out what to do about the line they dug up. PP&L came and went and told us nothing. I came home from work the next day and someone had back-filled most of the trench but left an open pit with a live power line sticking out of it in the middle of my front yard. I had to call Bowman FOUR times to get someone to finally come out and finish filling in the hole, and then they showed up on the wrong day again and filled it in when no one was home (probably because they didn't want me yelling at them). They dug up a ton of shale, and when they back-filled the trench they made no effort to do anything about all the rocks laying everywhere. I had to spend a couple dozen hours of back-breaking work raking them all up and hauling them to a pile in my back yard, and now I have a big pile of rocks behind my house that I don't know what to do with. They also didn't fix the border of the flower beds, or replace the mulch, or plant any grass seed. I had to go spend over $200 buying bricks, mulch, grass seed and fertilizer and do another couple dozen hours of back-breaking work trying to fix all the damage they did to my front yard. I will NEVER call H L Bowman again. read more

I am following up from my last review over two years ago for HL Bowman Incorporated. Since we had the heating unit installed we have had so many problems with this unit! From technicians, not knowing how to program it, the heat pump not working properly, our emergency Heat kept kicking on constantly, the amount of stress, anxiety, and fear that our Home would burn down from being unsure if the thing was even wired properly! There were over 15 visits at least to our Home to try and rectify this! There was a manager named Cody S. Who finally seemed to have gotten the unit working properly, however, the original ductwork was not touched, and some of our rooms Don't seem to get any heating or cooling at all! Since December our electric bill has increased so high after we were told that our bill would actually decrease with this new unit! Mind you this is not the first time we have had a high electric bill with this unit, but because of the timeframe I'm just mentioning since this past December forward. Our upcoming Bill for February is over $700! Why is it that our electric bill with a brand new heat pump would be $700??!! My husband called in to get service done and we were told by the receptionist that our service contract was expired after one year. Cody S told us because of all of the problems that we had that our service contract would be extended from five years to 10 years! Now we find out that we have zero coverage after one year! We are just livid! I'm so disgusted with this company after everything that we've gone through with them! Oh, and after our last visit with George, we noticed that our emergency Heat was coming on. Cody had disconnected that completely stating that Heat pumps don't need that. now who that H !! Is telling us the truth? Who is lying? They took our money which was like $22,000 sent a bunch of uneducated, installers for this particular system, And ran away with it! In my last review, I noted that Brian F had given us options to fit our budget. We did not choose the highest level because he told us that we did not need it. We trusted him as a professional in this field, and went with the middle grade unit per his recommendation. What I do know is, I will never ever use this company again, give out referrals as I've done and found out that each of the referrals that I gave has also had severe problems with the same company! One person barely had heat when it was so cold during this last month! Terrible lack of integrity! Anyone else out here have the same problems / issues? Contact me so we can talk together. Thanks! read more

I've had super bad luck this past year. We had our basement drain backup. These guys came out and put a camera down, found a clog at 80 ft but the auger machine was 75ft. He left after charging $100, drain is still clogged. We called them back to ask if they could bring a 100ft auger and they told us we would have to wait until the next day. I know you can rent a 100ft auger from Grand Rental Station in Dallastown PA. So seriously WTH! We have no water, no showers, can't flush toilets...This has been the worst. read more

Had them come out to our house to look at 2 appliances. Our oven and our dishwasher. Oven would not heat, and the dishwasher leaked. I had an idea what the issues were but wanted a professional to look at and quote. My wife was home while the estimator came. He assessed that the issue was the ignitor on the range and the inner and lower door seal on the dishwasher. Thier estimated cost: $622.00!!! (w/ a 15% discount applied because they wanted to sign us up for a yearly subscription thing) Cost of the parts: Ignition: $25 to $60 Lower Door Seal: $20 to $30 Inner Door Seal: $15 to $20 Total for parts: $60 to $110.00 Estimated labor time: Dishwasher 30 mins to an hour. (Easy Repair) Oven: 30 mins to an hour. (Easy Repair) Total for Labor: 1 to 2 hours That means they tried to charge us anywhere between $512.00 to $562.00 AFTER a 15% discount for labor. In fall 2025 they sent out a coupon for sewer pump service. Twp regulations require pumping every 4 years and I was due, decided to use Bowman since the coupon offered 50% . They came in Dec. , pumped one of my three tanks and left, no inspection (as advertised) and no paperwork. It took me another six weeks to get a copy of the paperwork. It was then when I compared to previous years that I realized they had only pumped one tank. Now I have to get another company to come and take care of what they didn't do. Lesson learned but I really feel taken advantage of. When it comes to this kind of work, I trust a known company to do what's needed and at the very least inform me of what is needed if they aren't going to perform full service. NEGATIVE STARS 1. The Daikon' ductless mini-split' unit, sold to me by Brian Enders and installed by H.L. Bowman Incorporated, unleashed a deluge that not only saturated the hardwood floor in my dining room but also flowed onto bookshelves and drawers in the room below, drenching 25 family photo albums. 2. The water pooled atop and between each section of my quarter-sawn oak Stickley barrister bookcase. 3. The water seeped inside each section of the bookcase. 4. The water ran onto particularly important and expensive books, framed photographs, as well as four small wooden boxes containing four of my dog's cremains. 5. In past years, water from a second-floor unit emitted sufficient water to cause a 12' by 5' section of the upstairs floor to crash through to the main floor. All furniture and items in that 12' by 5' section were so water-damaged that they had to be discarded. Water ran behind the plaster and into the wiring contained within the plaster walls. I had to make an insurance claim to have that water damage repaired. 6. In past years, water from a basement unit emitted sufficient water to cause an entire wall of built-in cabinetry to be destroyed and have to be replaced. I had to make an insurance claim to have that water damage repaired. 7. In past years, four of the six "ductless mini-split" units have simply not worked. They do not cool. They do not heat. They hang on the wall and blink. 8. Throughout these years of destruction, distress, and financial duress caused by the six 'ductless mini-splits,' Brian Enders has consistently refused to rectify the problem. 9. The FIRST REASON Brian Enders uses to refuse to rectify the problem: When the ceiling caved in from the upstairs unit and the cabinetry was ruined by the downstairs unit, Brian Enders offered substandard assistance. He sent a contractor to my home to spackle over water-damaged plaster, thus sealing water inside the walls. When I saw the inferior repairs Enders offered, I stated that I was going to call my lawyer. Enders said that because I had threatened legal action, his company would no longer serve me. 10. The SECOND REASON Brian Enders gives for refusing to rectify the problems: When the ceiling caved in from the upstairs unit and the cabinetry was ruined by the downstairs unit and Brian Enders offered substandard assistance, I wrote bad reviews of Brian Enders and his company "all over the internet." (Enders words.) Yes. I did, indeed, write bad reviews of Brian Enders and his company, H. L. Bowman, Incorporated, "all over the internet" and will continue to do so until Brian Enders and his company, H. L. Bowman, Incorporated, make the six Daikon "mini-split" units they installed in my home work properly. 11. Because Brian Enders and his company, refuse to help me, I have paid five other companies, & one private contractor, to come to my home to diagnose and repair the six Daikon "ductless mini-split" units. Each one has been unable to do so. Each one says that there is something so faulty about these units &/or the installation of these units that it is impossible to determine what is actually wrong with them. 12. On Saturday, June 22, 2024, I tried to set up a service call with H.L Bowman, Incorporated, using a form on their website. 13. On Saturday, June 22, 2024, I received a text from H.L. Bowman confirming an appointment for Monday, June 24, 2024, with a note relating that on the day of the service, I would receive a call 30 minutes before the technician arrived. 14. On Monday, June 24, 2024, I instead received a phone call from H.L. Bowman informing me that they are too busy serving their VIP customers to send a technician out to serve me. Today is Tuesday, June 24, 2025. H.L. Bowman has still not rectified their financial and material injury to me. Read less read more

Let me first WARN everyone that you should NEVER allow these people into your house, especially to inspect a furnace/air conditioner unit. If your unit is older than 10 years, they will find cracks in the heat exchanger/burner manifolds and RED tag your unit saying it is unsafe to use due to possible carbon monoxide (a lethal gas) leaks. I would bet the pictures that their "detector" show are pre-loaded and not really actual footage of your unit. Next, you've purchased a unit from them because you don't want your family members or pets to die, and then they bait-and- switch you to a different brand. This company is CRIMINAL. You should avoid them like they had yellow matter custer dripping from their eyes. read more

Worst company we ever dealt with. We had an emergency and had no water. Called H.L. Bowman (family-owned company, or so they say). They were able to come out that night to diagnose the problem. The well pump was bad. They sent a man named Earl to come out and he was the nicest guy when he was there. Told us it was going to cost us close to $5,000.00 to replace pump and talked us into purchasing a new pressure tank since he said ours was too small. Total bill was $8,158.12!!! Promised HE was coming out the next day. Turned out we never saw or heard from Earl again. They sent two individuals to replace the items the next day who weren't even aware they needed bricks to put under our pressure tank to fit it into where it needed to go. My husband provided them with bricks. They finished the job and assured us we were good, water started getting very dirty looking shortly after so we figured we would wait to see how it got. They never even bleached the system to clean out any debris, bacteria, etc. that might have contaminated the pump. All plumbers we have talked to since said they should automatically done that after replacing the pump. That was August 20, the water has not been right since. We contacted the county and had a water test done (2X). 100% coliform (bacteria most likely since the well was never sanitized). We asked them for our warranty by phone several times and they just kept sending the receipt repeatedly. Earl told us the work had a warranty. We are still using bottled water on November 6th. We hired another company to come look at it, they sanitized the water and now we are having to pay $2,500 to get a ultraviolet filter for our well water. I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE! It feels like they just took advantage of us in an emergency. read more

I contacted HL Bowman on Thursday, December 11, 2025 because my pressure switch on my pump was not working. They responded to my residence pretty quickly, and also noticed that my expansion tank was also waterlogged and could not diagnose the real issue. The technician called his manager and set up a service call for the next day between the hours of 10 AM and 12 PM. Friday the 12th came and I went to work for 3 1/2 hours and came home expecting service guy to arrive at my house, but the person did not show up until 5 PM. After several attempts to contact HL Bowman to find out why I realize I was talking to an AI person, very unprofessional in my opinion. After two hours of installing expansion tank technician could not calibrate the pressure switch to my to operate my pump. He claimed that my pump was bad and should be replaced along with my foot valves. Another call was placed to his manager and he was supposed to call me the next day Saturday the 13th at 8 AM which I got no call until 930 that night. I said to my wife, there is no way that all these things could break all at once so I took it upon myself to calibrate my pressure switch on my pump myself so it could work and I could have running water that night. The installation process went very well in my opinion, but as far as getting the customer to spend more money by not doing their job properly is unacceptable. A $1700 expansion tank installation could have went to $10,000 if I wasn't experience in plumbing like I am. I hope this review is a warning to others who hire HL Bowman to do their plumbing work. read more

First, HL Bowman Service - actual service - was great on previous occasions: service fire place and inspection of AC and Furnace. My challenge was with how the "Comfort Advisor" responded to my decision to seek a 2nd opinion on replacing a unit. The Comfort Advisor, in my opinion, began using "scare" tactics to discourage a 2nd opinion. A few points: 1. HL Bowman Comfort Advisor refused to accept my decision to obtain a 2nd Opinion/Assessment of Service Needed. 2. HL Bowman Comfort Advisor accused me of "being angry" with him. 3. HL Bowman questioned my "morality" and "business decision-making abilities". At this point, given the aforementioned bullets, I will no longer patronize HL Bowman for any future services, nor would I recommend. read more

I will be writing two reviews. This is the first of two. I am waiting see how my HVAC system is resolved, however I want to share what happened with a plumbing issue. Buyer Beware: In Spring, 2025, HL Bowmans was called out for a clog in my pipe. They did a scope and told me that the pipe had disintegrated/collapsed and that a second pipe was in very bad shape. They offered me help getting a loan for thousands of dollars. I have coverage for certain kinds of damage with my home owners insurance so involved them. Bowman's would not send the video they had taken, to my insurance company, that required proof of the damage, to process. Bowmans said that they would have to jack hammer my basement (which no one was going to cover or cover the repairs) to get definitive proof of the damage. I hired a second plumbing company for a second opinion. They put the scope down, and showed me that there was no disintegration of the pipe, but merely a clog, which they cleared, easily. They also showed me that the other pipe was in fine shape. My insurance company or I would have spent thousands and thousands for a situation that did not exist at all. I now have a video of both pipes clear and undamaged. There was never a disintegrated or collapsed pipe(s). I was told by the vice president that they were doing an internal investigation into the matter. When I requested follow up, I was told I was not entitled to know the results of the internal investigation. I have also had numerous concerns with a heat pump that they installed, that has never been able to. heat my first floor, adequately. That situation has been ongoing for over a year, and I am still working with them for resolution. I will post more, as this unfolds. read more

I had previously had a high review of this company but I can no longer support them. I've used them as my primary provider for all things HVAC and Plumbing since 2020. I should have known better. When I used them early in 2020 for a leak into my basement they replaced the water line into my fridge with copper. Immediately my insurance said this was incorrect and had it replaced. They have continued to upsell me on every visit, including one where they tagged my Furnace as being unsafe despite another independent review that it is not. When looking to install a Tesla charger they were over double the price of a smaller electrician company to put it in place. However, nothing holds up my most recent adventure. Yesterday I was told that to fix a leaky toilet that it would be best to replace my seized valve and that I'd need to shut off water to the entire house. I took time off of work to handle this. When I got home, the technician was able to open said "seized" valve easily. All of the upcharges and the deposit that I signed instantly became a huge source of stress. What was I going to do, kick the friendly, helpful, bodybuilder-esque plumber out of my house for helping me? Overall, I feel like I was severely mislead by the original service tech on this last visit and was given faulty information that I used to make my decision. I would have been fine spending $10 and an hour of time compared to the $800+ that I was charged. I argued for some discounts and got them, but the end result is that I have a "new" toilet that I didn't need, including an uncomfortable seat that needs to be immediately replaced. I have been a VIP member of theirs for years. This is the treatment I'm given. Lesson learned. Don't trust companies like this. read more
