I was in Moalboal for 3 nights and ended up at Veranda Restaurant and Bar a few times. It's located…read moreright along the waterfront with a perfect view. The inside is spacious and there's even a few tables along the beach/water that's hidden when you first walk in. They have TV's showing some sort of sports game. Staff is friendly and the cooks are good. The menu is long with a mix of Filipino and western food; breakfast, sandwiches & toastis, crepes, soup, pasta, pancit, rice dishes, salads, appetizers, sizzlers, meats, seafood, pizza and desserts. - Mango pancake (120 PHP) - Excellent! First pancake I've had in 6 months. Hit the spot with a great fluffy texture. - Chicken BBQ (200 PHP) - this dish takes about 10-15 minutes to cook. You choose from plain rice, garlic rice or French fries. Went with garlic rice which was delicious. The chicken was tender and well worth the wait. They love their sweet sauces here; the chicken is coated in it. - Banana pancake (90 PHP) - fluffy, airy texture with a good amount of bananas. You know it's good when you don't need to add much syrup. - Spanish omelette (150 PHP) - the omelette was excellent; flavourful and creamy. Inside, there was onion, green and red pepper, mushroom and cheese. Well worth a try, especially for their pancakes!

The picture of the nachos on the sign looked amazing. The drinks came out fairly quick and were delicious. Off to a good start .....then it went downhill. It took :50 to get the nachos and what they sat in front of us was not nachos! It looked like it might be a multi-layer dip but it was not even that. When we tasted it, well...it was canned spaghetti sauce, mozzarella cheese and ground beef. We asked the waitress and she said that is their nachos. I let her know it was spaghetti sauce and she told us it was the same... tomato and onion like pico and cheese. We talked to the manager and he said that was the nachos, I told him we expected what was in the picture. He asked where we saw the picture. I said on the large menu board out front. He walks over to it looks at it and with a straight face says that is just an example photo of what nachos look like but that ours was definitely the nachos. We paid and left, went down the street to a restaurant that served what they showed. We would never go back. Not just because what they served but that a manager would ignore their own signage. There are too many good places to eat in Moalboal to waste you time and money here. Best part of the experience was having a story of the worst nachos EVER!

He ordered ahead, but we did not want to eat the entrees before he arrived. So thankfully the staff covered the entrees with plastic while we waited. Everything was delicious, but I did have two favorite entrees. Crispy Pata was worth every bit of bad cholesterol cause it was so yummy!! The Pinakbet was very flavorful and had lots of veggies! Terrific ambiance, friendly service, and delicious Filipino food! Barrio Kusina is a winner.

After the second bottle they ran out. In any case, I love this restaurant. Service was great. The food was amazing. The servers were very attentive and fast. I was super impressed with the details they put into building this restaurant. Stainless steel counters, rotisserie equipment, and all the decor. You can tell it was not rushed and they hired quality carpenters. The bathrooms super clean with toilet paper. I would definitely recommend this place. I ordered the spicy shrimp platter, shrimp tinola, and garlic rice. Omg the garlic rice was flavorful and I don't eat rice much. You can taste the garlic and butter. The butter as a nice touch. This was a nice surprise. We oslob after whale watching and stopped here for a quick bite.

Harolds Rooftop Cafe - Love the fresh air up here

Harolds Rooftop Cafe is located, yes you guessed it, on the rooftop of Harolds Mansion in beautiful…read moreDumaguete! What makes this place great for me are the people, the warm reception and the 'all heart' approach which shines through the picking and choosing of mixed Western and Filipino dishes on their menu spread catering to tourists from all over the world. We met families from France, based in Manila for work, who were staying at the Hostel for a couple of days as they planned their trip around Harold's extensive island trip privileges and all so affordable, like swimming with their giant turtles around Apo island. I will have a different review specifically on that experience. (Harold, the owner of the hostel and cafe) operates/owns a diving and snorkelling expedition with his shop just by the entrance of the hostel where you can book day trips and rent gear for whatever activity you choose. We had the chance to meet Harold a couple of times as he is also based in L.A but was in town for a vacay. Harold is a gregarious local who ensures your stay in Dumaguete is gravitated outside the walls of his cafe/hostel which is why his love for the open water seeps through his warm smile as he passionately shares his virtuous take on salt water adventures that will entice visitors within the Philippines and from all over the world. Diving trips has a more intricate process as there are open water courses and certificates before your first dive with the crew. (Again will go into detail on a different review) I just wanted to give readers an insight of how Harolds Rooftop Cafe is the start and end to a fun filled day. My favourite picks from the menu are the Adobong Tuna and veggie lumpias. You cannot NOT have adobo when you visit the Philippines. Adobo is the ultimate dish which has all the fixings of garlic, soy sauce and vinegar simmered to perfection with seasonings to heighten the tenderness of any meat of your choosing, in this case the tuna. Sooooooo GOOOD! The second show stopper for me was the veggie lumpias and this cafe serves them BIG AND BOLD and stuffed to the max, fried to the perfect level of crisp and washing all that down with some ice cold beer while your wifi connection has a speed advantage on that rooftop so FaceTime with the parents was uninterrupted as I showcased my sun set view and authentic, good tasting grub. I mean everything else on their menu is portioned unsparingly compared to other restaurants in the area and you can't go wrong with quality. Price point on meals is important especially when your travel budget includes island hopping, travelling with family and excursions. Everything adds up quickly when you're on vacay mode so it's best to know places where it won't disappoint pockets and taste buds.

Seating is in the form of rickety plastic chairs just outside their stall and kitchen. The tables get messy fast but they were diligent about getting them clean for the next guest. During dinner time, they are apt to display "fresh" seafood roadside where you can pick and poke at each fish when you're trying to decide what to eat. The restaurant across the lane also does this, so competition looks intense. Despite initial reservations, the fish DID look freshly caught from that day but can't be sure HOW fresh. It might be reassuring that they don't sit on ice but they do pretty much sit out in the hot and humid night time weather the whole time. Despite this, I still pivoted to a steamed fish when learning that they didn't have one of their dinner entrees for the night (this happens commonly). I did ask for the red snapper but I think she gave me the grouper. I guess I should have just gotten up to pick my own... in any case, I think everyone orders the fish either grilled or steamed (as it appears on the menu), and there's only one steamer and one person grilling, so it did take a minute to get to me. My friend did request to have her fish fried and got hers within 10 minutes, so by the time she was finished, I did just barely get my fish. I did like the extra garnishing of onions and bell peppers. It was simmered in some type of brown sauce which was a little bland and just made the fish soggy. Usually when a place is busy, that's a good sign that the restaurant will have tasty food, but it wasn't exactly the case here.
