Good decent Portuguese kitchen set in an old building with quite some character. Not that many drinks options.

We read very favorable reviews of this restaurant, it was clearly a local favorite and we could…read morewalk to it from where we stayed on vacation. The focus here is on rotisserie chicken; they have other items but they're not the main event. It's very big inside, 2 stories and even early it's pretty busy. The chicken is well seasoned and very juicy; enough so that you know why it's So popular. Sides I can barely remember , but everything else was good- it's just that you will Always remember that chicken! Other than that, my only other clear memory of that dinner is that it was very reasonably priced. If I were in the area again, I'd return in a heartbeat. Highly recommended.

I am delighted that I tried this place. Upon walking in, there is a diner countertop that one can…read moresit at and basically watch the kitchen prepare your food. There is also dining upstairs. As I came in on my own I opted for the one open stool at the counter. The restaurant was busy on a Monday early evening, about 5:30-6:00 pm-ish, with what felt like mostly locals. They have a regular menu, a daily menu printed on the counter top, and they also do Take-Away. Their specialty is definitely their roasted chicken, which one can see cooking on spits at the entrance of the restatruant, conjuring such amazing smells that truly open up the appetite. The staff is sweet and did their best to serve me, with my English/Spanish and no Portugese self. Everything I ate was top-tier without being fancy. Simple and flavorful. I ordered a 1/2 chicken (way too much for me by myself) that came with batatas (french fries- which I didnt love), so I ordered a side of white rice and a salad, as well as what I would call a carafe of wine (it was definitely either two very healthy pours or 3 regular ones). All in all, I paid $15 euros, which I thought was a great value for all that I was given and how tasty everything was.

It's not uncommon when terrific restaurants fail to show up in guide books or travelogues. Résvés…read moreis one of those restaurants, which we just happened to pass on our way to seek out another "listed" restaurant. And we were pleasantly surprised. The decor is modern, tasteful, comfortable. The food definitely matched the decor. The salmon tacos were like having all the best bits of a poke bowl in a pair of flour tortillas. The pork belly gyoza app wasn't pork belly-filled gyozas. They were gyozas laid alongside large slabs of pork belly! The mushroom/asparagus/egg dish came with strong, bold flavors, like it was all cooked in a sweet wine sauce. And the standout dish was the grilled octopus on sweet potato mash and garlicky spinach. The tentacle was Kraken-sized, perfect texture, and superbly grilled. I will be dreaming of this tentacle for months to come. Loss of one star because it took FOREVER to get our check. When in Guimarães, definitely give Résvés a try as an alternative to the dozens of cafes in and around the town squares.

The star of the meal was the mushrooms and asparagus. These were the best mushrooms we have EVER tasted. The sauce had soy, olive oil, we think brandy and some seasonings that were incredible. Three different types of mushrooms absolutely delicious. We also had the shrimp, clams and mussels in another delicious sauce as well as the chicken croquets in pano with a great Thai chili sauce. Service was friendly and efficient Kent. To their credit, none of the staff would divulge the full ingredients in the mushrooms although we asked several of them. A house secret. Highly recommended.
