A ticket for the USA Constellation is good for a year from the date of purchase and entitles the bearer to visit three other historic vessels within Baltimore harbor: A Cutter, a Submarine, and the Lightship Baltimore. The submarine Torsk is berthed in front of the Baltimore Aquarium, easy walking distance from the USA Constellation. Going below decks, the smell of old wood, rope, and polishing oils is a highly recommended experience! The lower you go, the less headroom there is: Careful if you're claustrophobic! There are no bathrooms on three out of the four ships. Do not go during summer nor winter because the ships have no AC nor heating. Employees are not approachable. They are on phones, using headphones listening to music, watching movies on the computer/register, and have personal conversations with each other that you as a guest will feel awkward for interrupting because how dare the guest interrupt them. Ships are in the water that are not next to each other. It is a five minute walk to get from one end to the middle. If you start at one end, skip the ships in the middle, and walk to the other end it is a 10-15 minute walk. read more

So much amazing history when visiting the four historic ships of Baltimore. These ships have been kept in amazing condition and allow pretty much full access to tourists to view and take in what life was like. So much information given throughout each ship and each area of the ships. Staff is also available to answer questions. Our kids enjoyed all the different ships and getting to see living quarters as did we as well! They even allow people to try lying down in the hammocks on the USS Constellation- very cool! We had heard these would be good to visit and the recommendations were right. So happy we got a chance to visit these ships. It definitely gives you an idea of what times were like as you step into these spaces and moments in history and more importantly what so many sacrificed for in our past for our country. "Historic Ships in Baltimore" is a collection of four historic ships and one lighthouse in Baltimore's Inner Harbor. My friend suggested we go aboard the USS Constellation while we were in Inner Harbor and I agreed. We found out that admission gives you access to the other military vessels in the harbor, which is great. There is a small visitor center next to the Constellation, where you can buy tickets, and learn the history of the ship before boarding. We also went onboard the USCG Cutter and the USS Torsk. All were great and I highly recommend visiting. Being on the submarine was fascinating. You can also do overnights on these vessels or book guided group tours as well. We had limited time in Baltimore (2.5 days and 2 nights) and the weather was against us. The lighthouse was closed for the season, and we managed to visit three ships of the four (the submarine, sloop of war, and lightship) before closing time. It was raining that day (part of the reason why we ran out of time, because we hid in the aquarium) so the ships were deserted. Staff is willing to help you get into the bowels of each vessel; and I reaffirmed that I wasn't built for the navy. I am a tiny woman but I had a hard time negotiating those stairs and the headspace (or maybe just the claustrophobia). Your tickets are good for a year from purchase, so you can always revisit! There's history packed into every corner, so take your time wandering. read more

Got to see all 4 ships that where on display. The USGC Cutter 37 was my favorite, being able to be on a ship from Pearl Harbor is amazing. The USS Torsk was my second favorite and it was very well laid out, tho abit tight for bigger folks like myself. LV116 Cheasapeake was the more informative one with someone able to answer questions. A maritime museum is always worth the visit. We showed up close to closing time, which was OK because we were just here to see the Coast Guard Cutter 37, which had been my hone back in the day. We were concerned about where to buy the tickets, which turned out to be funny because could have bought tickets good for the day at any exhibit. As it was, we were free to follow the tour markings throughout the ship and take our time reading the interpretive displays. I was able to share my impressions with My Lady, and we both gained a deeper understanding of that time in my life. It was sad to see how underfunded the museum must be. It was easy to see how the maintenance and presentation could be improved. One obvious example was that the bookshelf in the ship's store offered nothing about the ship or the Coast Guard. We had time to visit the Seven Foot Knoll Lighthouse and gain an impression of what life was like on that platform. It was a tight apace, and I don't wonder that the lighthouses have all been automated. Anyone who sees one and hears the horn or bell will be grateful they don't have to put up with it for six months. The museum is OK, could be better, but it has world-class assets. read more

The ships were great! Fantastic! Loved it! The price was fair and worth it. But, the computers were down (4/27/2025 at 10 AM) when the place opened and so buying tickets electronically was not an option. They do not take cash. The phone app would not work for anyone who was trying to use it. The three females who were working the desk tried their best to fix the problem and apologized several times for the situation. But, the other staff member, an androgenous person with multiple piercings, long hair and facial hair, and wearing a sailor suit was condescending, arrogant, patronizing and clearly annoyed that we had not purchased the tickets on-line and inpatient with us for taking- up so much time. This person made the beginning of the visit so unpleasant that we were going to leave, but because of the nearly two-hour drive to get there and the apologies of the other staff members, we stayed. We were glad we did because the staff at the other three boats could not have been nicer or more helpful. We explained that we still had not been able to pay for the tour to the older gentleman on the submarine (our last ship) who thanked us for our honesty and for paying at the end of our visit. In summary, the price was fair and worth it; the four ships were interesting, filled with information and just a great exhibit; but one person at the ticket office would benefit from some training or perhaps a new job elsewhere. read more

Overall the ships were very cool. Getting to tour inside a submarine is a rare opportunity and one you shouldn't miss. Unfortunately the staff leaves a lot to be desired. We had my disabled mother-in-law with us and the attendant at one the ships couldn't be bothered to put he candy down and operate the elevator for her. I would not say I am a history buff, but I do enjoy maritime history no matter where I go. I was traveling the east coast visiting major league ball parks and I stopped in Baltimore for a one night stay. I arrived early enough that I wanted to take advantage of the self-guided tours of the Historic Ship in Baltimore harbor. I toured the USS Constellation, USCGC Taney and the USS Torsk for a very reasonable price considering the historic value that each of the ships bring to Baltimore. Each ship provides 1 or 2 starting points and arrows on the floor help guide you through each part of the ship. Each room offers a unique perspective into life on a ship and a placard explaining the room's purpose or what was being displayed. These ships are very well maintained for museum quality and are a must see for maritime history enthusiasts. read more

This attraction is amazing and so informative. Although we got there late and really only had time to tour the Constellation, there is a wealth of fascinating historical facts to read. You could probably spend at least a couple of hours on the Constellation to look through everything, so I felt like it was a good value for the price. They provide a self-guided tour, so you can see what you want to see, but the staff were happy to answer questions. We hope to be able to check out the other ships included (they also have a submarine docked near the aquarium and a 2 other ships) if we make it back to Baltimore FYI: If you show up within an hour or two of their scheduled closing time, they don't offer reduced rate admission. So, you'll still be paying the full price, whether you only have time to see one ship or all of the vessels. read more

It was a nice tour. The Inner Harbor in Baltimore, MD is a must visit spot if you are ever in the area. A big surprise is kids age 14 and younger get to take the tour at no charge. We had a great time with our grandson, touring 4 ships and a bonus tall ship from Argentina. The pricing for four ships is $16 for seniors with a major discount for military veterans. Our grandson, who is not yet 5, was free. Being able to tour one of the oldest, if not the oldest ship in the US Navy, the Constellation, to a retired Lightship, a diesel submarine and a USCG Cutter made for a great day for all of us. The best tour of them all was the Constellation and since it was not very crowded we got a lot of information from the docents as well as the information posted all over the ship. On the submarine USS Torsk we received information from people who actually served on this type of submarine. It is hard to imaging 80 people living and working on this boat in minimal space. The Lightship was quite interesting along with the CG Cutter which saw action at Pearl Harbor. Touring was a bit difficult with a 5 year old but he couldn't get enough of the different ships. Some stairs/ladders are quite steep so you need to be careful. We also managed to tour the lighthouse that had been moved from its location on the harbor entry. Hard to imagine 3 people living for extended periods of time in such close quarters. read more

What a treat it is to have these in Baltimore! I've been thought all 4 several times before but this last trip we just did the Torsk and Constitution. You are able to buy tickets for just 2 or all 4 ships plus the lighthouse. I recommend doing all of them as the price isn't that much higher and each have unique exhibits. Touring the submarine was really cool and the volunteer answering questions that day had also been stationed on it. (Like I said . . . . really cool!) Next we went on the Constellation, which had been decommissioned for preservation, brought back into service as a flagship, then decommissioned for preservation again. Throughout the ship there are exhibit panels detailing life on the ship as well as its preservation process. There were several reenactors on board and at certain times of the day there are special programs such as raising the flag and firing a cannon. Another cool thing was several barrels of rum aging in the hold. It looks like the rum can be purchased at Total Wine and the proceeds go to the preservation of the ship. That is one of the coolest fundraisers I've seen and certainly the most spot on. read more

When it comes right down to it...I'm a bit of a nerd-especially when it comes to history. I love museums, I love historical landmarks, and I especially love learning about military history-and have since I was a little kid...so I love the big ships in Baltimore's Inner Harbor. My Dad was in the Navy and he brought us to many places where I was in awe and my brothers were bored out of their minds. The tour of the USS Constellation (the last sailing ship commissioned by the Navy) is really cool as the ship is in excellent shape thanks to extensive renovates and repairs over the years. Another excellent tour is of the USS Torsk, a WWII submarine. If you've never been on a sub, you will soon understand why it took a certain type of guy to serve on one. After making over 10,000 dives, this little sub was decommissioned in 1972. There are two other cool ships in the harbor, but I have yet to really check them out...the Chesapeake was a lighthouse ship (which I had never heard of) and the US Coast Guard cutter Taney. My Uncle once told he that he served on this ship when he was in the CG serving in NJ, but I think he was pulling my leg a bit. Anyway, even if you aren't a military history buff, these ships are pretty cool. read more

This is an amazing history spot for tourist. I visited while I was attending Johns Hopkins University. I went on hike trails through Maryland marshes, superfund sites, and historic trails. I learned about things from marshland, Chesapeake ecology to the stories of Lord Calvert and Lord Baltimore. I learned about the history behind blue shell soft crabs and strategic vessels. The tour that I went on at the time featured the cannons and allowed our private group to tour the different levels and even enjoy quick minute naps in the drop-down swings. read more

Very cool stop in the Inner Harbor! Tickets are about $11 and you get to see a small exhibit inside a building, then tour through the ship pretty freely. I liked that there wasn't a time limit and no tour guide--you can go at your own pace, read the signs (or not, like me, and just take a million pictures looking out from the gulleys or whatever they're called). It's a beautiful ship, about 4 levels altogether. We kept going down, down, down, and it got darker and smellier and shorter at each level. There are several demonstrations given each day of the deck of the ship--tacking, raising sails, life at sea, stuff like that--that looked interesting and interactive. We got there right as one was ending and didn't manage to stay long enough to see the next one. There's a schedule on the board out front, so walk by early in the day and see if something catches your eye. I would definitely recommend this during a trip to Baltimore. So pretty! read more

Who knew learning history could be so much fun on the high seas. Well ok it wasn't really high seas as all the ships were docked. There is a little bit of everything for everyone here. There are old wooden from the 1700s (USS Constitution) to WWII submarines (USS Torsk SS-423) to the last surviving ship from the Attack on Pearl Harbor (USCGC Taney). Did you read that? The LAST surviving ship from December 7, 1941 when the United States was attacked and this ship was there. Maybe it is just me but that gives me chills as my grandfather served on a ship in the Pacific in WWII. The tours are great and I would definitely encourage anyone to try one out to feel and be part of history. We hear stories but you can immerse yourself in the lives of those who have served in the past. The tour guides are great and go beyond to paint a picture. Their knowledge is not some Wiki stuff looked up but includes stories from some who actually served onboard these ships. read more

We visited the USS Torsk submarine (WW2), the Lightship Chesapeake, Sloop of War USS Constellation (aka Connie, used in the Civil War for anti - slavery), the USCG Cutter Taney (was at Pearl Harbor during the attack), and the 7 ft Knoll Lighthouse (brought inland following retirement) for $18 a ticket. The history is always interesting but my favorite part was seeing what life was like living on each. I couldn't believe how tiny the space was on the submarine, for instance. I learned that it was a volunteer based assignment but required knowledge of everything onboard. I'd add it to the "must see" list while in Baltimore! read more

Worth going to see if you are there. This is one of the oldest ships built by the Navy, and that is still around (the other is USS CONSTITUTION in Boston). The audio tour is included with the entry, and it's totally FREE for MILITARY With ID. We had fun checking it all out and it did remind us of the USS CONSTITUTION while we were there, the Boston ship just has much more brass and is actually still maintained by the US NAVY. Not for those who don't do steps or small spaces, especially the submarine but there's a nice place to sit a watch next to each ship. We were able to see him and take pictures from the dock. Review 64 for 2017! I have never been in a submarine so I wanted to tour the Torsk. Ticket options are available for two or four of the ships so we opted for two. They also give student discounts if you have your ID on you. The tours are self-guided so take your time reading the information and stopping to look at each room. But be aware to watch your step or head whenever you're walking. I thoroughly enjoyed walking through the Torsk and the Chesapeake. Although, my favorite was definitely the submarine because there was more to see. Both were full of history and provided a glimpse of what it was like back in the 1900s. The Torsk is credited for sinking the last Japanese Warship in World War II. The Chesapeake was a lightship that was eventually replaced by a lighthouse. Overall, Historic Ships in Baltimore is definitely a place to visit when you're in town. read more
