There was low pressure hot water, but no shower pressure. No shampoo. No hand soap. No coffee. Of course, the coffee pot had old coffee in it and was DIRTY. And the room had a slight lingering smell of cigarettes despite being a non-smoking room. The A/C vents and filters were very filthy. Will not stay here again.

Long story short, we ended up at the Rocksprings airport at two in the morning with rain approaching, no ground transportation, and nowhere to sleep. Called the other place in town, no answer. Called Sorrell's Inn, and the owner's granddaughter was soon on her way to pick us up. The airport is only five miles out of town, but hey, it was 2AM. The price was right for the accommodations and we were able to get some rest before continuing on our journey. Bottom line, we avoided a miserable, sleepless night thanks to the kindness of the owner and his granddaughter. They didn't have to help us out, but they did, and I think that speaks volumes about the kind of people they are. Long ago my family ran a similar establishment that was also highly reliant on seasonal visitors as is Sorrell's Inn. It can be a tough business but these people clearly haven't let it bring down their spirits.

The front porch/balcony was the perfect place to read, watch the sunrise, and enjoy the birds. The "backyard" had a gorgeous view of the hills and had a picnic table, campfire, and bbq to make dinner and s'mores watch the sunset. The cabin itself was stocked with everything you need from kitchen utensils to coffee to extra blankets. Also, the living room had tons of entertainment like board games, movies, and books. Our favorite part of every night was reading and talking in front of the fireplace. The bed was massive and comfortable with cedar walls that made the room smell so cozy. Outside, there was a small clearing where we laid and star gazed, and one night a deer ran by us! Even the road to get to this place was absolutely stunning. My only suggestions would be better lighting in the bedroom, a bigger bathroom mirror, and curtains or blinds on the front windows. But I would definitely return here--we felt safe and it was wonderful in every way.

The Lodges at Lost Maples are tucked away off ranch road 337. Great fun if you are into that sorta thing. One of the most beautiful drives in the lone star state. Motorcyclists populate the highway, so use caution but enjoy the drive... Now the lodges: made out of cinderblock with touches of local wood. Inside there are large kitchens with microwave, full size fridge, and stove. The cabin is one large room with wood floors, not separate areas. A futon that folds out into a bed is in the living room, directly behind that is a queen sized bed. Close to the dining table in the kitchen are the twin sized bunk beds basically in a nook off the wall. A bathroom with a stand up shower is off the kitchen (if you have a baby bring the portable tub). The back patio was great with a bed, benches, and adirondack chairs. Off the deck in the yard area was a patio table with umbrella and a charcoal burning grill. So, even though we had a large group in one cabin, we still felt like we had plenty of space. The owners of the cabin were extremely friendly and brought us a breakfast of homemade blueberry muffins, pecan bread, fresh squeezed orange juice and seasonal fruit. The lodges are in perfect proximity to Lost Maples state park, but away from all of the road noise. This is a place for those that like a hidden, cozy feeling, but still need more ammenities than camping(i.e. air conditioning!). My family will definitely be staying here again. Oh...make sure to stop at the store and load up on what you need...the closest full size grocery I believe is in Utopia about 20 miles away.

When we first got there, I asked if they had coffee filters since we forgot them at home, and they gave me a handful of their personal ones! The entire staff is so sweet and accommodating. We stayed at an RV spot which were clean and had high end BBQ pits. The bathrooms and showers were VERY clean! We were quite impressed. They had great amenities- basketball court, pickle ball, pool, playground etc! We will be coming back for sure, especially in the summer to take advantage of the water fun!

This photo says it all. Bathroom/showers scheduled for remodel, but they are clean and tidy. Laundry room is also neat as a pin. Cabins were being re-roofed during our stay. The sites are wide, level gravel and each has a big charcoal grill and picnic table. Half the sites are pull-thru, half are back-in. There is no television signal in the valley, but there is Dish equipment you can get from the office at no charge. Highly recommend it. Towing on Cty Rd 348...I would recommend only doing it from 83, which is kind of a wheel-gripper itself. 348 coming from 127 in Concan would be a nightmare. Once you're unhooked and settled in, take a drive across the river on 348 and you'll see what I mean. You'll love this park, and you'll love the owners. Don't forget to buy some corn for the deer and Rio Grande turkeys when you visit the office!
