We hosted our daughters wedding there and it was amazing! The facility and staff were excellent.

Let me start by saying this is as much a review of the amazing wedding and reception for Peter "The…read moreConnoisseur" Schmidt and his lovely bride Kanani held here on a perfect fall evening under a Waxing Crescent moon, as it is about the facility itself. The business owners have done a superb job of converting this impressive looking former post office into a stylish space with minimal yet elegant finishes. Probably odd to note but the restrooms are particularly nice. Spotlessly clean with tile and fixtures that compliment this more than 100 year old building. While I was not granted VIP access to the before and after parties held in the famous basement speakeasy, my sources tell me it is a truly special gathering place "that you just have to see". Yeah. Thanks. I would note that while you might think Ottawa seems like kind of out of the way, it's really a short hop south of Lawrence on 59 Hwy or an easy drive on Interstate 35 South from Kansas City. As the groom acknowledged to me the day after their celebration, the room was electric with energy when filled with so many of the beautiful people they call friends. Soooo stylish, great ambience, good location. Why only 4 stars instead of 5? I'm going to chalk it up to a lack of security. That's right security. Several riffraff wedding crashers from Topeka and you know who you are (Dave, Nick, Tylor, etc.) were able to gain access and basically blew up the open bar budget!

While my husband and I have not had the opportunity to visit since new ownership, I trust that it is managed well. My opinion on Dunn's Landing remains the same, but we would definitely visit the Orchard House again! Original Review: We chose Dunn's Landing and their Bed and Breakfast, The Orchard House, for our 2013 Fall Wedding because we were searching for a quaint and intimate setting. While the setting was beautiful, we urge you to use caution when working with these folks as their demeanor is very inconsistent and at times quite rude. While we loved the venue, the difficulties in working with them (Robin, her brother and her brother's boyfriend) made us feel unwelcome and added to the stress of an already stressful time. We definitely felt as though our presence - both on the day of the event and when viewing or setting up before the event - was an inconvenience to them rather than feeling like welcomed guests. This, in addition to poor communication around scheduling, pricing and set-up made us regret our decision to have the reception there. Based on our experience, we would neither use the venue again nor would we recommend them to family or friends.

The parking space is plentiful and there was a parking attendant. I did not do the planning but I understand the price was supper reasonable. I would definitely use them again for a large dinner reception.
