The Bed & Breakfast at Peace Hill Farm

The Bed & Breakfast at Peace Hill Farm

(26 reviews)

I'm a sinensophile... I love tea... and tea rooms! I've been to almost every one in Virginia and…read morebeyond! So I was really looking forward to coming to Peace Hill Farm for their afternoon tea. I made reservations for me and my friend. It was a lovely drive ... At first... the gps directions are awful. I was taken down a road which was designated as peace hill - but we ended up at a red house, no one there, then we called and got even worse directions. The woman on the phone told us to go by the "red hen house" and through the woods... it was barely a road, full of tree roots, dirt path, and rocky terrain. After a 1/2 hour, we finally made it and end up at the back of the building. Come to find out, if she had just told us to go back to the main road and keep going 1/4-1/2 or so, we'd see the other entrance to the main house. Not a great first impression. The grounds were lovely and the farm animals gave a pastoral vibe. Inside was pretty too, but we were led to a rather secluded back room full of wool and yarn. Not that it wasn't cozy, but quite different from the dozens upon dozens of tea rooms I've been to. The lady who was "minding the store" didn't seem like she knew what she was doing. It took ages to get our teas and the tea (earl grey) tasted bland and stale, the soup was a putrid green (inedible) and while we were waiting we heard her chatting on the phone. Anyway, she wasn't the owner, so maybe she was new or just helping out?? The tea tier arrived and it looked nice... the sandwiches were good, basic cucumber, egg salad, and a pesto, with a mini ham biscuit... the scones were not good - sorry - but they were served with loads of cream and jam yet they should be served plain and the "condiments" on the side. My friend who can't have the toppings and preferred a plain scone, asked for a plain one. The lady said it would take 20 minutes . Which it did, and longer. All and all, it wasn't a very relaxing experience. I took some nice pictures, and we enjoyed the surroundings, but the afternoon tea service itself was mediocre. Sadly, we were disappointed, and I really wanted to love this place since I had heard good things... I'm sure the bed and breakfast side of the experience is probably much better. The sheep, the goats, the wool, the crafts, the pasture raised products, the farm life... that is your best bet from the other reviews I've read, but maybe you'll have a better tea time than we had. We might have to give this place another try and see if it improves.

I visited for afternoon tea with friends. The setting is pretty and I loved the old home. At our…read moreplace setting there was a glass of sparkling wine with a peach puree. We enjoyed the drink however, we had to ask for details about the drink and wish the host would have described it for us. The soup was a tomato soup which was ok but definitely didn't taste like tomato. In general we were disappointed in the food. The tea selection wasn't my favorite. I would have preferred a milder blend to go with the food rather than the choice of two strong flavors.

Such a beautiful B&B, and perfectly located right between Richmond and Williamsburg! The owners are…read moreso kind and helpful, and it was fabulous staying in such an historic space like this. I slept like a log on the mattress, and really enjoyed having a Keurig right outside of my room. During my stay, owner even provided the surprise of a complementary bottle of local wine to enjoy! I would absolutely return, affordable and cozy!

In a pinch was looking for a little getaway for my wife and I ... not far from home in Richmond but…read morenot too far either. Its a little confusing finding their options using anything except their site directly (vaideninn.com) so GO there instead of anything else. I called and talked to Jess, that was the easiest to do. Booking was done with a link provided over email (but still definitely secure) - frankly, i have spent enough $ thru airbnb and other sites to be happy and book direct. We went with the king bedroom that had a private bath (our one real requirement) and the price is just right too I am rather amazed at how very few reviews there are for this place; I didn't realize that there are quite a few weddings and family reunions that are held nearby. The Vaiden has plenty of southern charm, historic details and quite t jj old feel with modern updates. I've attached a pile of photos to give you a sense of most all of the place. There are areas to be updated, but really didn't notice almost any of it until real close looking around....regardless, what did you expect for a house from the 1780s? Upstairs, to the far right is the smaller room that has I think a full size bed and no private bath. The door to its left is the king size bedroom with a dedicated private bathroom (w shower). To the left, is the two bedroom suite, including a larger bathroom with a clawfoot tub (can be used as shower). Outside the bedrooms is a large sitting area, with a couch and two comfortable chairs; in addition, there is a Keurig with plenty of options and a water tank. Downstairs, there is a large shared sitting area with a few couches immediately to the right of the entry. Off this room, is the kitchenette and a full bathroom with shower. Right in front upon entry is the dining area which has an area for another Keurig and again, there are plenty of options for coffee, tea, etc. To the right of the dining area is the final bedroom suite which I don't recall if was a two bedroom or not, but she did show us a second room with one or two smaller beds and if I recall, a full bathroom. Beyond that, there is a full long kitchen which I think is available when you rent the entire house. The housekeeper (Bonnie) has room beyond that We didn't need a lot of things to do - just a few options nearby. So if wine is your thing, there are least two nearby. Saude Creek vineyards (which we went to) had an amazing musician and good wine (not sweet enough for our tastes except their Muscadine - unavailable though) along with a food truck. There was another winery and brewery in the other direction. If you like casinos, Colonial Downs (Rosie's) is not far at all, but if you've been there, hit I-64 east and you will see another Rosie's but if you want something else, go an hour to Rivers Casino (we went here - talk about packed!). There's also Williamsburg not far away any which has quite its own set of options, including history and restaurants (checkout St George's if you want seafood buffet) and a little stretch of antique shopping. We probably would have done that the following day if it didn't go all rainy :( Bonnie was charming and a joy to talk with towards the end of breakfast. She gave us a nice tour, talked about the house and the area. I didn't mention it before but when booking with Jess, she mentioned and recommended highly the Martha's Kitchen restaurant. I booked a reservation online just in case but that's another review (). Great little getaway spot!!!! Very recommended.

Will and Bill are like a warm glass of milk with their much welcomed Southern hospitality. Breakfast was a gastronomic treat with strata, homemade applesauce, sausage, berries and biscuits. Will even catered to the gluten-sensitive in our group. Now that's customer service!!! My favorite memories include sitting out on the bench looking up at the starry sky (never seen so many stars) chatting with my gals with wine in hand while black cows looked on. My friends and I shared a suite with 3 beds, which was perfect. It was clean, quiet and the hosts were kind, knowledgeable and welcoming. I'd recommend this for families, couples and groups. This is hands down the best B&B I've ever stayed.

So, if you're like me and you want a countryside get away, but still need the necessities of modern entertainment and conveniences, this place is for you. I admit that I love the idea of bed and breakfasts, but I loathe the prospect of being stuck in a house with other people. Strange, right? This place has two separate cottages right beside the main house.... I stayed in a cottage, and they will bring breakfast right to your door in the morning. Yummy eggs benedict when I was there. One cottage has a small kitchenette - microwave and sink. It was even stocked with cereal, milk and OJ. There were rocking chairs on the porch and I enjoyed just sitting there in the evening, having some drinks and watching the fireflies. It's very lovely and peaceful. I'm going again for a couple of days in September. Can't wait!
