Aaron involved participants from the youngest to the eldest as he vividly painted a picture of Savannah's Colonial life and its impact on the Natives. Squares grew into life in the City of Savannah. One participant was crowned "King George" who then chose Parliament. The impact of the Sugar and Stamp Acts were made personal with humor and thought-provoking questions. Are you a Patriot, and what is it worth to you? Stories of people and events were illuminated at the sundial, and we sang the chorus of a rallying song as we marched to Reynolds Square. At the statue of John Wesley, we learned of the Great Awakening and how it led to the Declaration of Independence. As those precious words rang out, we were reminded that our freedom came with a price. We relived the Battle of the Rice Boats and the heroism of James Jackson. At Oglethorpe Square, we took part in successful battle formations and tactics. We paused at Colonial Park Cemetery and remembered those who sacrificed for our faith, virtue, and freedom. Madison Square was hallowed ground that witnessed fighting in Savannah during the American Revolution. A statue told the story of the gallant Sergeant Jasper, who risked his life saving a flag and perished. As 90 minutes flew by, we were immersed in adventures in history. This is a highly recommended, compelling tour for all ages.

It's definitely worth it to stop in on the Telfair Academy to get your money's worth! There are several floors of artwork, but each floor is relatively small. The architecture of the building is stunning! I think I breezed through the museum in about one hour. The Telfair Academy is the location of the statue from the cover of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil! Built in 1819 and is nationally significant as an early example of Greek Revival architecture, and is one of the few surviving American works of architect William Jay. The house was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1973. It is now home to the Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum, and it has largely been restored to an early 19th-century appearance. This is not the typical tourist destination. It's not downtown. It's off the beaten path. It's…read morenot that close to anything else, really. And it's not flashy or exciting. I walked here, about 6/10th of a mile from Forsythe Park, in a neighborhood. There are lots of informational plaques on the wall, but this is more of a story telling destination. Miss Imani does a wonderful job of setting the stage, telling you all about the accomplishments of prior generations of Black Americans and educating you on how people from the time period lived: their jobs, their obstacles, their triumphs. It's so much better hearing this from a story teller than just reading words on the wall. I paid 20 total dollars so I can visit the Beach Institute later (part of the same organization), but the cost of Tisdell alone is 10 dollars. The gift shop is very small and not fancy, but that's not why you're here. Miss Imani also told me about various maps and apps to use to learn more about the Black community in Savannah and surrounding areas. Her hospitality was amazing. This wasn't exciting or enthralling or high octane, but it was a down to earth, tranquil, low speed learning experience where you get to connect with a member of the local community and learn about Black ancestors who laid the path to today.

Kings Tisdell Cottage has been on my list for many yrs, so finally. They are located in a great area outside and have plenty of free parking. This is a rare gem in Savannah, there is normally no free paring anywhere in Savannah. I went at right when they opened up, so I didn't have to worry about the crowds. The cost is $7 for Military ID holders, I believe $10 for all others. The guide was very informative and welcoming during the tour. The house is packed with a lot of information, I stayed approx. 1hr to listen to oktour and browse a bit. The guide also gave me some useful information to do during my stay in Savannah. I travel yrly to Savannah but I appreciated all her tips since she has lived in the area for 20yrs. Savannah's King-Tisdell Cottage is dedicated to the preservation of African American history and culture. The cottage is named for Eugene and Sarah King, and Mrs. King's second husband, Robert Tisdell, former owners of the cottage. It contains many interesting artifacts and is furnished with period pieces typical of a coastal black residence of the 1890s. The works of African-American sculptor Ulysses Davis (1913-1990) are featured here and at the Beach Institute. Originally built on another site in 1896 by W. W Aimar, this handsomely restored Victorian center-hall cottage is significant for the intricate gingerbread ornamentation on the porch and dormer in the wheel and spindle pattern. The residence was scheduled for demolition in 1970, but a joint effort of the City of Savannah and the Historic Savannah Foundation saved the property, and it was moved to the current location. I liked that the carriage had…read morestairs to make it easier to get on the carriage and that we all were provided head sets so that we could hear the tour guide. This tour did not cover as much of Downtown Beaufort as the other tour I took or provide as much history but it was fun and I learned different tidbits. Angus was the horse that took us around. The horses are well cared for and if it gets too hot in the summer the tours are stopped. I'd recommend this tour while in Beaufort.
