He is old school- Marcus Welby meets Daniel Hiser- he just seems like a truly caring Dr to his patients- he explains things and can unscramble difficult topics to make sense- His front office staff are great! His nurse/ assistant Aidan is beyond on top of things- if you leave a message it's returned- if you write on the portal, the turnaround time is so fast- I really appreciate the personal touches- I can't speak to any other Drs in this practice as I've only seen Dr Hiser- but Being new to the area from CT I'm feeling fortunate to be in patient partnership with this office! read more

Dr. Hiser is an excellent doctor but since he sold his practice it's gone down hill fast! I called today and the number I had was disconnected so I'll looked it up and it was the same number so I called it a few more times finally got through I was put on hold then hung up on! So I showed up ONLY WANTING my prescriptions not to see him I've been waiting for an hour and 25 min and now they tell me that everyone went to lunch and he won't be back till one!!! I'm switching doctors! Hiser staff is complete idiots and don't have the necessary skills to be employed! read more

I love Dr. Hiser. He's wonderful. Encompass, on the other hand, is the worst. They only answer the phone on occasion, and when they do, they ask you to hold and never come back on the line. Prescriptions are never written out the right way. I had to call Express Scripts the last time I ordered refills and cancel half the medications because the dosages were wrong. One day my mother had an appointment, and I sat out in the waiting room and watched as front desk staff sat in their chairs and gossiped, turning away elderly people who needed to see the doctor immediately. Unprofessional, frustrating, and really sad....Dr. Hiser deserves a better staff! read more

Need a good MD? On Blue Cross Anthem? Near San Diego State? Go get poked & prodded by Dr.Hiser. He's been my doctor for as long as I can remember and I've followed him from insurance carrier to insurance carrier. He's not on your plan? Ask him to add it. You know how sometimes you leave the doctor's office and you never got your questions answered because you were treated like HMO trash and shuttled through the office like a head of cattle? That won't happen here. Dr.H asks questions, answers questions and even remembers small details about you. Maybe he writes the details on your chart so he can ask you about them, maybe not. The point is, he generally cares about his patients. Don't have an appointment? Don't worry, I just show up and they squeeze me in if it's important. Day 3! Trying to get an appt is like pulling teeth! Monday I called at 9:45am got the answering service and they gave me another number to call. I called that number and they said I nee to the main number. I told them I got the answering service and they told me to call this number. Called back the main number - got answering machine! WTH So i left a message and after 48 hours NO RETURNED CALLED! Called back on Monday around 9;15am, left another message! It's SUNDAY I am very upset, no returned called for an appt! I have HMO and choose this doc as my primary care! I guess next month, I will be switching to another doctor who actually cares about their patients! Dr. Hiser has been a wonderful, caring doctor to our entire family. He is always prompt and takes the time to understand the full picture of any health issue. I feel like he really investigates the cause of an issue, doesn't just write you off or go with the most simplistic, obvious, (but inaccurate!) diagnosis. I wish I could give this place no stars. The staff is completely incompetent and you will never get a hold of the doctor. Every time I call it's either a hold of at least 10 minutes or goes directly to voicemail when they transfer you to that Dr's staff. One time I was on hold for 15 minutes and a staff finally picked up and answered as if I had just called in. It's ridiculous how they run their operations I don't know how they get anything done. Even when you have an appointment, you wait in the lobby, then they take you in to an exam room where you wait some more. The doctor will spend a whole 5 minutes with you, then he makes you wait for the nurse again. To reiterate their incompetence they messed up requesting insurance authorization for a routine PAP smear (requesting with the wrong code). The resubmit the right authorization, but all this delayed me even being able to make an appointment. It took 3 weeks for their staff to resolve this and submit the right code. Hello?!!! It's your job people don't you do this everyday?!! Ok I gave them another chance maybe they'll do better this time... I came I because a bad case of sciatica and major pain in my right foot. I was seen by the PA since I didn't have an appointment. So I get an x-ray done immediately downstairs, how convenient. Of course we all know soft tissue damage won't show up in an x-ray. But what do you know they need to request insurance authorization for an MRI. They let me wait in the lobby knowing it's going to take a couple days. Finally after an hour of waiting I ask the staff when will we know about the authorization. The lady tells me I should go home and they will call because it can take up to 10 days... 10 days later I call in to check if they got the authorization, what do you know the insurance company never got the request!!! Wtf! So the expedite the request and call back 3 days later saying it's been approved. So I finally can book an appointment for the MRI, and they have nothing for another week out. So now it's been 3 weeks of excruciating back and foot pain. The day I'm supposed to get the MRI they notice that the authorization was wrong. It was for the back and ankle (not the foot) and it's a Saturday so my doctors office is closed. Awesome I'm at the image center and they say they can image my back but not my foot until they get the right authorization code. Thanks Dr. Hiser's staff, you guys are real idiots. So the weekday rolls around they request the insurance authorization for the foot and it takes another week. Image center says they got the authorization but the doctors request doesn't specify which foot, they left a voicemail for doctor's staff, so they need the doctor to call back and give the confirmation. They don't call back until I call them the next day and complain. Wow it's now been a month, and "oh yeah what are the results from my back MRI?" I even have to ask them, are they that inconsiderate to get results back and never tell the patient what the results are?! The answer is yes they are inconsiderate and incompetent more than any medical staff I've ever dealt with. So finally they call the image center to confirm which foot to image and this is 6 weeks out from when I came in to get the pain diagnosis. I got my foot imaged a bit over a week ago and I call in for the results. What do you know? I get pushed to voicemail. 7 weeks out now and this issue still isn't resolved. If you want an efficient and thorough diagnosis don't come here. They will send you for a loop and a half, make you bend over backwards and then go to hell and back before they help you with anything. read more

I love , love this Dr . I've been with him for years and he is wonderful to his patients. He sold his practice and it's horrible. They never answer their phones , they don't return calls, they moved offices and had no idea. I pay cash put of pocket to see him because he is this good. Only thing is they don't answer their phones ever!! Very very sad .... it's horrible now. Dr Hiser is amazing but a victim of what's wrong with the medical system. If you're a new patient with a current issue you should find another place. I just called to set an appointment and for a new patient to get in, they don't have openings for literally two weeks. Would have been helpful to know seeing as people really love this doctor; plus the receptionist didn't care to know if I was experiencing anything because the least she could do was refer me to another place to seek treatment. read more

I've been going to Dr. Hiser for over 3 years. He's a great physician. He's engaged, thorough and approachable. Now that he sold his practice, it's been a whole new, horrible experience. I called for a new prescription which requires a pre-auth and a referral back to a specialist. After 1+ month of calling and following up, the front desk said I needed an appointment. I took time off of work and went in for an appointment. Dr. Hiser had the office manager come in and take the details of what I needed. After I left the office, it took another 2 1/2+ weeks, with me calling every other day, to get the referral to the specialist. It's now been over TWO MONTHS, and I still don't have the prescription. They still haven't submitted the pre-auth for the prescription. The office manager said she couldn't find the details for the strength. She never thought to call me. Back to the referral - finally got it. Specialist recommends surgery. I called Dr. Hiser's office for a 2nd opinion referral. I stressed that I needed it submitted this week. I've called every day. When I do get a call back, the office manager says I'm on her priority list. Four days later, and it's still not done. My insurance, thank goodness, said that they will submit it for me. Unfortunately, patient care is not a priority for Dr. Hiser's new office staff. They are incompetent and unreliable. It's a shame. I really like Dr. Hiser. Although my calls were not related to life-threatening issues, it's my health. And, my health is important. read more

I have just started going here, but I can already tell he is a good Dr, to say the least. He is very easy to talk to and a good listener too. I feel like he really took the time to understand me and think about what to do. He is very nice and he spent quality time, which is the most important thing. I don't have any insurance and so an office visit is $75. read more

Great staff, very knowledgeable doctor with excellent bed side manners. Ive been a patient for over 2yrs and have always been treated properly and promptly. Ive seen them take a walk in that was not feeling well so that tells you that they have great service. Moving here from Chicago I was in the same boat and they made time for me to get in. Dr. Dan is up to date and well rounded in his practice. Happy to say I've found my family physician.:-) read more

I love Dr. Hiser. He is easy to talk to and every specialist he has sent me to talks about him as though I lucked out in getting him picked for me at random by my insurance company. After having switched to another insurance and being given someone else, I can't agree with them more. I actually changed insurance plans just to be able to see him again. Sadly, the front office isn't run very well and there is often a lot of confusion going on. I'm not sure if they are understaffed or wrongly staffed but it can be annoying if they aren't on their game. The back staff, however, are wonderfully helpful and funny when it's appropriate. I'm on a medication that has me having to see him once a month and everyone back there seems to be really engaged in what they are doing and willing to answer my "ooh! what's that?" sort of curious questions. Dr. Hiser could easily hand me my prescription and be on his way but he always makes an effort to check in and see how I was doing and ask if there were any problems that he might need to take a look at since he's in the room. I've never known the feeling of having a doctor who you feel completely cared for with until now and I can tell you that if I ever move or have to switch doctors for any reason I'll have a hard time leaving. Since I did "luck out" and get assigned to him before the new office it's hard for me to see the front desk antics as tied to him because I know he doesn't run that part of things. If you're a new patient just know that you might need to make an appointment at least 2 weeks in advance (a lot of people like this guy for good reason) and there might be a little more of a wait than you'd expect. I see it as a small inconvenience worth dealing with in order to see a doctor I trust and respect. The only reason for a 4 star is the unpredictability of the front office. They're always very nice and on top of it about 80% of the time but they tend to come off the rails a bit when something unexpected happens. My disappointment with them is probably enhanced a bit by how much of a contrast it is to Dr. Hiser being so great. It's not like complete chaos, just sort of weird sometimes. read more

This doctor doesn't care how badly you are in pain. All he does asks you to go back to his office and repeat everything you have already told him, so he can charge our insurance. I would never ever go back to him. He never returns your call. read more
