I recently stayed at Hinton Highway Inn and had a pretty mixed experience overall.
Pros:The biggest upside is definitely the price -- it's very affordable and conveniently located close to gas stations, Starbucks, and even cannabis shops, which made quick stops really easy. The view of the mountains is beautiful and honestly one of the highlights of the stay. Despite temperatures dropping to around -40°C, the room stayed surprisingly warm, which I really appreciated. The kitchenette was well stocked with dishes and included a stovetop, and both the fridge and microwave were very clean. Free WiFi was also a nice bonus and worked well during our stay.
Cons:Unfortunately, there were quite a few maintenance and cleanliness issues. The walls had noticeable black streaks that looked like they'd been hit with something, and the floor near the washroom door was so uneven it actually caused skid marks on the ground. The room was extremely drafty -- there were large cracks in the shower area where you could literally feel cold wind coming through. Almost every pillow and blanket had visible stains, which made things feel less hygienic. The upstairs deck also became extremely slippery when it snowed, which felt unsafe.
Check-in was a bit uncomfortable as well -- the front desk staff asked me to write out my driver's license number so they could keep it "in case they needed to call the RCMP," which felt unusual and a little off-putting.
Overall: If you're looking for a cheap place with a great mountain view and basic amenities, this place works in a pinch. However, the maintenance issues and cleanliness concerns make it hard to fully recommend without improvements. They also had a smoke detector missing in the bed room, and all the TV remotes were taped together... read more
