Hintergeissboden is a wonderful restaurant to choose should you find yourself wandering around Zugerberg! There are a couple other restaurants in the area, but Zugerberg restaurant was closed when we were visiting, so we took a relatively short wander over to Hintergeissboden.
To be quite honest with you, my expectations are generally quite low when it comes to eating at mountain restaurants in Switzerland. They are generally very meat heavy and usually my only option is spaghetti napoli or raclette because most things are already made with meat. But hey, those options are always yummy. Just saying, I like some variety in my life, you feel me?
But alas, I noticed that many of the meat options here came with roesti and veggies. So I thought, hey what can I lose? Let's ask our waitress if she'll let me order just a side of those and risk sounding like an idiot, because I already do that every day here anyway. And lo and behold... MY WISH WAS GRANTED! A large plate of roesti (hashbrouns basically) and veggies!!!! YAAAAS! And they were so yummy and perfectly seasoned! I didn't even feel the need to ask for ketchup!
They also had kuerbis (pumpkin) soup, which I ordered because I worried the sides wouldn't be enough (so silly of me), and that was delicious too! yay!
My husband ordered the mixed salad, which was also packed with a lot of delicious vegetables!
We sat on the balcony and admired the mooing cows. It was a great lunch. Our waitress was also incredibly friendly and understood my German, which makes her a wonderful human being. read more
