First time visiting Himley House restaurant, and I loved it. Superb gluten free menu and disabled friendly building/parking/flooring/seating/facilities made going out for a meal relaxing and enjoyable.
The gluten free menu offered many meals and desserts; and it was hard to pick which meal I wanted as they all seemed so appealing! They offer gluten alternatives/replacements rather than just removing food from the dish. You feel you can safely order food from the nicely printed gluten free menu, and you have lots of options rather than seeing which item from the dish you have to remove or ask to leave off. It was refreshing to not have to ask for the" allergy menu in a binder" or ask the servers lots of questions. I felt like a welcome diner and not a hindrance, as I do with most places. It was "no big deal". I liked not stressing about it and felt happy to be catered for.
I had the gluten free battered cod and chips and it was delicious! The portion of fish was large and had good taste. The batter was light and very crisp, it wasn't soggy or greasy. The chips were hot, fluffy, and crispy. I had not had proper fish and chips in a very long time, and this dish was a complete delicious treat! I will definitely order the gluten free fish and chips again!
For dessert I had the gluten free chocolate brownie and cheesecake salted caramel sundae. Yes, I went for it! It was rich, delicious, and there was plenty to share. The brownie bites were soft chocolatey, and chewy; the cheesecake bits were yummy, and the ice cream was smooth and creamy. Definitely a treat!
My husband enjoyed his meal of rump steak and his dessert of Millionaires cheesecake. He loved every bite! We really enjoyed our meals. The prices are reasonable and the set menu has a large offering of delicious options.
Himley House is a lovely building, the décor is modern, elegant, and yet very comfortable. There are a variety of seating groupings, so can accommodate a single diner to a large group/party. I think it would be a lovely place for a birthday or anniversary meal. While we were there, the outdoor seating was buzzing with many customers, and looked like a lovely place to have an afternoon meal in the late summer sun.
Disabled parking is available, and there are no steps into the building or to the toilets. There is a wheelchair accessible disabled toilet. The hardwood floors make it easy for wheelchairs, and there are tables at varying heights, and chairs can be moved to accommodate any size wheelchair. There is enough space to manoeuvre in the pub and dining area in a wheelchair as well as a ramp to the garden area.
The servers were friendly and came to the table regularly to clear dishes or ask if we needed more drinks. Nothing seemed a bother.
We were very pleased with our evening out at Himley House and see ourselves returning many more times. I'm so pleased about the gluten free menu and disabled facilities, it makes going out for a meal less stressful and I'm able to enjoy myself instead of stressing about things. read more
