The menu is appealing, diverse, and vegetarian-friendly (even marked for vegan items). The setting was also quite pleasant and well-decorated. What I tried was the somar tofu curry, which virtually every person who has reviewed any iteration of this restaurant anywhere online seems to recommend. The crowd isn't wrong either; the flavor starts with lemon, but takes a journey to a spicy, sweet, and sour place that isn't quite like anything else I've tried. How a restaurant purporting to be from a mountain region near the equator ends up with a lemon-flavored coconut curry I have no idea, but if they're making it, I'll eat it. That being said, it was hard to sway me off of ordering chickpeas and fried bread, and I may find myself at this or the other location to try some more things soon.

Thank God for Tibetan Kitchen in Toowong, that's all I can say…read more I've been a big fan of TK for, oh, fifteen years now, since I first discovered their incredible prawn dish, Jhinge Maccha al Raduwa (I'm SURE I spelled that wrong...). Which is still my favourite prawn dish anywhere, and actually until recently the only thing I'd ever ordered here. (Although have heard amazing things about the somar tofu curry and really want to try that next.) But yesterday I was craving Vietnamese pho. Like, CRAVING it. So I got on deliveroo thinking it wouldn't be an issue but... apparently there are hardly any Vietnamese places in Toowong?? And the ones that were delivering were charging $18-$20 for a bowl of noodle soup... WTF?? But then I noticed, luckily, that TK does a dish I'd never tried--thukpa noodle soup, for only $13. They also had calamari, which is what my kid had requested. So we went for it. I was so glad we did. The noodle soup was absolutely delicious. It was fresh, citrusy (lemongrass I think?), and delicious. It seemed very healthy too - kind of a tomato-ey broth with some chicken and rice noodles and herbs. Yum. The calamari was ok. I wouldn't have ordered it if it was me--I never order deepfried dishes for delivery because they always go soggy--but my son enjoyed it. This should really only be a 4.5 star review though. A few things could improve. First, the "raita" that was supposed to come with the calamari was just straight-up mayonnaise. Who would confuse raita with mayo?? Not cool! Second: the soup was packed in the same container as the noodles, which meant that the noodles were getting soggy and overcooked. I would have packed the noodles and fresh herbs separately from the soup broth, so that everything stays perfect: piping hot soup, and perfectly chewy noodles. The soup itself was great, but I found it really, really benefited from the addition of more fresh herbs. Luckily I had some coriander and mint in the fridge, and when I tore these over the bowl and spritzed over some fresh lime, it made the dish about a million times better. I also added the shredded cabbage and carrots that came with the calamari, and that really elevated the whole thing too. The whole dish could really be improved by packing some herbs, shredded cabbage, maybe finely sliced red onion and a lime quarter in a container with the noodles and then packing the broth separately. I reckon if they did that I'd be ordering that soup on a weekly basis. Maybe it could even replace my pho obsession....

Karma, which pleasantly surprised me, is an Indian and Nepalese-style restaurant on Brunswick Street. For some reason (possibly related to the name) I had never made it there until recently. The location of the restaurant is convenient, in a cluster of eateries and bars near the intersection of Brunswick and Annie Streets. Inside, the lighting is pleasant and the fit-out looks great. I ordered takeaway, but am looking forward to dining in some time soon. My butter chicken was paler than I'm used to, and didn't look quite as appetising as I hoped, but the flavour was good. I didn't like the look of some of the meat and it was quite mild for a medium curry. The saag paneer naan I ordered was great: big and stuffed full of spinach and cheese. All in all a meal I enjoyed, though I'd be more inclined to try a vegetarian dish next time.

"Hey, wait a minute" I hear you say, "mild is not how it's done!". This for sure is hard to argue with, but based on my experience with Indian cuisine (not the widest in the world, I admit) a good curry will be tasty and flavourful no matter the spice level. (Been here one time previously and on that occasion I ordered medium, which I found a bit on the spicy side.) Service was friendly; prices were ah-ok. Have been to better places, but the setting is convenient and the interior design is cute. You could do worse as well.

The staff are welcoming and friendly. For Entrée, I selected from a mix of dish styles, an apparent Favourite, Momo Pork Dumplings (I had them fried) came out potsticker style with an ajvar sauce. They were indeed pleasant morsels For main course, after deliberation, I picked the Jhinge Tihun - Prawn & Eggplant curry with capsicum and onion. This is a sweeter style Curry, less heat but rich flavours (Very typical of Nepalese currites) served with rice. I also had a side of Aloo (something) a season blend of potatoes and peas and that was very nice. (to be fair, I didn't eat all the rice or potatoes :) The one disappointment is the tiny wine list (only a few varieties on the list) and they had sold out of the only white wine they had., hopefully this will settle as they get known.

My ordeal for a quick nice dinner follows: Firstly, I really can't stand dirty dishes/ glasswear on a freshly made table.. how difficult is it to clean and check these items before setting the table? Friendly wait staff, always smiling but unaware as to their complete incompetencies! Entree arrived suitably timed, however we were not the only table looking around for mains... seems one chef and three incompetent waitresses can't do it all on a relatively busy Friday evening. One larger group close by was overheard reminding the waitress that she hadn't even asked for their mains order... My main was served after my guest's and a much smaller portion - the small bowl did not resemble my order and I had to question/ insist the waitress that it was not my order 3 times!.However, the very nice and polite chef came out to apologize and my actual main was served free of charge (the incorrect one was meant to be but inadvertently was charged instead of the actual one!). However it did take more time for the actual main to be made and served, by which time I had picked at the other "main" and was no longer interested/ hungry for my very large portion. I say pick as we also had to ask for cutlery 3 times as they were taken away after entrees and not replaced (I understand this is a Nepalese restaurant and am happy eating with my hands, however a salad can be difficult to do in this manner) After some more time waiting for staff, we decided to attack the next walkby and ask for doggy bags (twice) and then they left after handing us the packed containers.. so do I just walk away or would you care for me to pay at all? Decided to do the "right" thing and wait at the front cash register nook and eventually a waitress appeared, ah but EFTPOS is not working.. ok we have cash.. ah, but they have no Change!! Well at least they sorted that out by wondering down the street and eventually returning with a few dollars for us.. Thanks, I guess I won't tell you, our drink was free and you charged the cheaper incorrect "main" instead of the correct one, as you didn't get the bill correct either! Good luck to them, if they can invest in some training/ experienced wait staff they may do well, but I doubt they will get my custom again.

They've got a bit of a Korean slant to the menu, and most dishes smell strongly of sesame oil, which is delicious but gets a little same-y after a while. At their worst, Vegeme can deliver something simplistic and lacking in protein; some of their dishes are rice or noodles with sauce and one or two vegetables and without a whole lot else. However, those are good as a light meal, and regardless, you can eat well for your money. At its best, however, this place offers some pretty nice things. Bibimbap should probably be considered their signature dish, and while I waited a while to try it, it was quite good and had plenty of variety with kimchi and bok choy, soybeans and tofu, and carrots and corn with plenty of sauce on the side and rice underneath, and served in a legit hot stone bowl. Other winners include their dumplings, carbonized bamboo rice cakes, corn fritters, their gigantic noodle soups, and the intriguing basil paste inari. And while one might expect a vegetarian restaurant that caters to dietary restrictions to be a small, dingy space hidden in some distant suburban strip mall, this one is a decent location between West End and the cultural center, and gets a lot of foot traffic. It fills at peak hours, but it's also open mid-afternoon when many other restaurants are not. The crowd ranges from Asian tourists to local hippies and quite a few random passers-by. For me, it's generally the place I eat when I don't know where I want to eat, and the real challenge is trying to order just the right amount to get stamps on my frequent buyer card.
