The Hilton Garden Inn is ok. My room is clean. Basically, it is like other Hiltons - Hampton Inn. The building is huge, with lots of space for receptions an conferences, etc. Breakfast is an extra - about $20. And it's not much better than the breakfast at a Hampton. It just takes longer because it is made to order and there is slightly bigger selection. The sink in my room is very slow to drain. There is no clock in the room, but there is a fridge, microwave, and keureg. The front desk staff are delightful. read more

Overall room was nice. My door lock jammed once. Bathroom sink hot water handle not secured well to the counter top same in shower. Neither didn't allow washing up but gave appearance that needed updating. Glad to have refrig, microwave and coffeemaker. However coffee maker was in need of cleaning. Kind of gross. Got stuck in the elevator. Hit call button and engineer got me out pretty quickly. Seemed like no one was surprised that lead me to believe this happens occasionally. Went to bar at night for a cocktail. One bartender who also was serving all the tables. She was very nice but I felt sorry for her cause the restaurant must be short staffed. We had dinner at the bar on our first night and it was busy, lively, friendly waiters, relaxed atmosphere. Very convenient after a long flight into town. The hotel: Probably the most non-accessible Hilton I've ever been to. The entrance to the hotel is not on the lobby floor; it's like in between floors. You have to take a short staircase up (or the handicap lift) to get to the front desk. The front desk agent was really pleasant, and she told me the room key cards get wiped if they're too close to credit cards or cell phones. This was the first time I learned of this, so that was nice to know. The free coffee in the morning was good; pretty standard. I was going to order off the menu for breakfast, but the breakfast area was unattended so I just left. This seems like an older hotel, so if you're a Hilton Honors member, honestly, I'd stay at another Hilton or another hotel chain. It's almost not worth the points. The room: This hotel had probably one of the worst smells I've ever experienced at a hotel. The second I stepped into the room, it smelled like old man and skin cells. I don't know if it was in the carpet, in the pillows, or in the mattress, but it smelled like a retirement home. I was self conscious about smelling like old man all week. I also don't feel like my clothes or towels ever got completely dry the entire time I was there. The front desk was unable to switch my room. Two positives: the bed was comfortable and the AC worked temperature-wise. Bathroom: The bathroom was clean, but the door wouldn't stay propped open which was weird, so I had to use one of the towels as a door stop. The sink area was clean, but the bathtub seemed worn with some of the paint looking a little scraped up. One positive: bathroom night light. The gym: The got a room on the 3rd floor, which is where the gym is, so that was the best part of my stay. The gym was clean and no one was in there around 6:30pm, so I got to do my cardio in peace. The AC kept the gym well ventilated, so I had some really pleasant work outs there. read more

A decent hotel in the area - but I prefer the Marriott across the street. The Oaklander by Cathy is even nicer (but of course is more stars than these hotels, so not a fair comparison to make). Breakfast is included at the Marriott hotel, it is not included at this one. It's $15 for the "buffet" - but they really don't have much to eat, just some bagels, yogurt, potatoes, fruit... Wish they had an omelette bar or a menu you could order off of instead for breakfast items as opposed to the standard hotel breakfasts. That said, the breakfast was decent I guess - it filled me up and that's all that really mattered - was just here for a quick work trip. The gym in this hotel has no windows and not that much equipment/very old equipment. The elevator also was super finnicky and you had to press the buttons multiple times in order to get it to move - super annoying. The heat/ac in the rooms were really loud too which was annoying and they didn't have any room slippers. When I called and asked for shower caps, I had to go down to get them - usually they bring them up to you. I have Hilton silver status through my AmEx card - but when I got to the hotel they claimed that I don't have status - and thus refused to give me the free water bottles. Very strange... The one nice thing, despite all these annoyances, is that when I asked to be moved to another room (my original room STANK of smoke!!), EJ moved me into a suite (an accessible room). read more

I stayed here for three nights recently. I checked in during the outage. My room was being paid for by someone else, This situation occurs often, where my room is paid for, and I leave a card for incidentals. I was told upon check-in this was the situation, that my card would only be used for incidentals and the room charge would go on the other card. The next day the whole thing was placed on my debit card. This left me in a dire situation, as I barely had enough funds available to cover the room and it caused another payment of mine to bounce. I talked to the manager and he didn't care about the situation. He refused to call the member who made the reservation, nor did he care what his front desk associates told me. He basically just said "every Hilton is different" and stonewalled until I left, instead of working with the member who hooked up the room. He was right about one thing. Cute hotel near UPMC. I stayed recently for a quick work trip, and I have no complaints. Rate was about $150/night. The hotel has a gym, bar, and restaurant. There are also meeting rooms for small conferences. I enjoyed lunch at the restaurant which had delicious fall salads and roasted salmon. The bar also has full service late into the evening where a few guests hung out. I enjoyed a glass of wine $11. The room itself was clean with your standard amenities. Nothing fancy but the bed was comfortable. I have to say hands down the staff were amazing. Every corner I turned someone was checking on my comfort or needs. Update: EJ at the desk at checkout was super nice. After the room aggravation, they comped us a night. So an additional star for very appreciated customer service. Thanks EJ! Only upside was proximity to things to see and places to go. The stay was horrible! They put us in a room on the third floor, right next to the gym. From 6-7am until 11pm at night, the weights hit so hard our room was SHAKING (and we're from California, so trust me when I say it was like a small earthquake). They need to NOT book these two or three rooms right outside the gym. So much for trying to sleep a bit late in a Sunday. No way to enjoy a vacation. Horrible!! read more

This HGI cannot decide if it's a hotel or poor university dorm. Upon arrival we found the restaurant closed to hotel guests but conducting a private dining event. Strange. There is no security at this establishment as far as we could see. The card key elevator access did not work. Anyone off the street can access guest room floors at anytime. BED BUGS! Don't stay here! We made our 5 day reservation about a month in advance, my sister was having a brain tumor removed at upmc 3 blocks away and we needed to be close. I found a bug in the bed the following afternoon and captured it in a water bottle. They did change our room and called out their entomologist to come look at what I caught. He confirmed it was a bedbug and even found a couple more in the bed. They did treat that room, comped us our stay, had our laundry dry cleaned, bought us a dinner, and sent us a nice gift basket. However we were never compensated for our suitcases that had to be thrown out. In all our years of traveling, I've never seen bugs anywhere! The stress, trauma, and sleepless nights aren't worth staying here!!!! read more

The best thing about this hotel, compared to others in the area, is it's location right next to UPitt's campus where my daughter goes. Other than location, it really can't compare with the Hyatt Southside, which feels newer, sleeker, fresher, and has a river view plus free breakfast and cheaper parking: $18 instead of $20. The bed was comfortable and what you would expect from a Hilton Garden Inn or comparable. In our room (511) we had some minor upkeep issues- broken closet door and broken towel bar. Another issue that also was somewhat inconvenient was the more-than-arms-length distance between the toilet and the tp holder - not a good design, and hopefully all the bathrooms weren't this poorly laid out! It was easily fixed by taking the toilet paper roll off the holder and placing it on the tank... But still. I would stay here again if I got a great rate. read more

I have been bringing groups of twenty to thirty people to the Hilton Garden Inn for at least ten years. The staff goes above and beyond to make me and my guests feel at home. The food has always been at least very good and has recently really turned it up a notch or two. Even short staffed (it's been a pandemic, after all) they are quick to respond to any issue. Yesterday I learned at the last minute that two travelers didn't eat beef. Beef was on the menu. Within ten minutes two fresh and (I'm told) delicious veggie meals appeared. Seems like an older project smack in the middle of the college campus. The hotel features everything you'd expect from a Hilton Garden Inn but could use an update. How does this place maintain standards to be called a Hilton? To begin with, you Must valet park, an additional $18/n fee. Plus, you are warned it will take 20 lead time to retrieve the vehicle. Crap, now with every other thing on my mind, I need to remember this!? Then you enter the lobby, which appears to have been designed by Salvador Dali. Do you go upstairs? Downstairs to check in? Incredibly you learn either could work, depending on how you want to drag your baggage. How anyone thought this obstacle course would be appreciated is beyond comprehension, but whoever it was left glass windows looking out on the beautiful Marathon Gas Station. Nice. I'm not sure why this place gets such a bad rep.. I came here for the 6$ Pittsburgh restaurant week lunch deal, and found the food pretty good. The restaurant is definitely better than most middle tier hotels, and the service is very friendly and professional. For the food, the salad bar is pretty average, but the ravioli came out great. The cheese is decently tasty, and the pasts is al dente. I will admit that the ravioli was a bit oily--too much olive oil seems to be the culprit. The portions are also a bit small, but for $6 at a hotel like the Hilton, you should not be expecting to get a full meal. Overall good experience and definitely a great job cooperating with the Pittsburgh restaurant week. read more

Stayed at the Hilton Garden in for two nights for work. Location is great - very close to the University of Pittsburgh. Lots of places to eat, shop, and enjoy. Lot of common areas to sit in to have small group or one-on-one conversations. The wait staff in the restaurant is awesome. Very engaging, very welcoming! The made to order omelettes were very good. Breakfast buffet was OK with rolls, English muffins, toast and much more. The rooms had plenty of space and were very clean. Overall, the staff is excellent. 1) Tried to downgrade my room to single bed with rollaway despite specifically booking two beds. 2) Explained three separate times that two bookings were made for a total of two nights. You would think that after staying there in the summer for 6 weeks and again in the late fall early winter for 4 weeks that the staff would recognize you. Nope My new car was stolen. Yup!! Actually it was given to a juvenile who claimed it was hers and they just handed it over to her, no valet ticket, no ID, no proof of staying there. It was run over 600 miles, a drug party in it. Then left abandoned. I went to get my car on check out, gave my valet ticket and the girl at the desk tried to give me someone else's key fob. We looked all through the garage and parking lot and discovered it was gone. Police called. Investigation. Best part was the manager said to me and I quote "you better not say anything to any of the guests here about this matter" and then had the nerve to tell the desk people to watch me. They did comp my room, but I had to find a way home. My wonderful man left work to get me. The Hilton offered me an UBER to drive me 2.5 hours home. REALLY?? Then told me I had to put an insurance claim on my insurance for the damages and stolen items. What a way to be treated. I missed major overtime at work, plus another day for having to drive round trip 7 hours to pick it up at the impound lot, at my own expense. There were damages to my new car, drugs all through it and a ton of things stolen from my trunk and car. So thank you Hilton for treating me like garbage and costing me close to 2 grand that I don't really have right now. I still have to get new key fobs and the console fixed too. I stayed here last month for two nights, as I was in town for a wedding. As a CMU grad, I was happy to stay in a hotel that I've walked past many times, but never went inside :) It sounds crazy, but I was traveling a week after giving birth. For this reason, I needed to get in early so that I could have time to recuperate from the flight before the rehearsal dinner. I called the hotel the day before and they gave me no issues with checking in 4 hours early. I really appreciated it. I arrived and the hotel was nice. The setup of the lobby is weird, but that's not a huge issue. The front desk personnel were amazingly friendly and accommodating - that was a theme of the weekend. Absolutely great! I had lunch at the hotel restaurant, which was not so great. Skip the restaurant and go to one of the nearby restaurants (Jimmy Johns is right there). The room was perfectly fine. Clean and comfortable. I did run in to an issue - my neighbors were extremely loud for several hours and I had to call security. This is my reason for 4 stars- I found it frustrating that I had to call in the first place, rather than security doing occasional rounds of the floors. It took them a while to come upstairs (it was 3 am when I finally called), and then the issue was resolved. They have a nice little snack selection (great for a very hungry post partum mama LOL) right next to the front desk. I decided on this hotel because it was less expensive than the Wyndham - and I'm so glad that I did, as my friends mentioned that early check-in cost money, and the front desk personnel were rude over there. This two star review is only for the dining area and has nothing to do with service or the food. The service has always been amazing. It has to do with their buffet. Now, I work next door so I have frequented the Hilton Garden Inn restaurant many a times. I am utterly disappointed in their changes. See the picture I loaded... If you cannot it states, "Get excited about our new buffet". A better sign would have been, "We took out dessert, our hot food bar, made the salad bar smaller, and then added a dollar to the price". Seriously?!!? You are telling me that you are going to add a dollar to the total price of the buffet but take away a lot of choices? That is not ok in my book. This place was convenient, had great service, had great food, and was good for most of my work friends to go to. Now, we are all disappointed and we need to find a new close go to place! Slept pretty good! Enjoyed the Keurig Coffee Maker in the morning! Room was clean, comfortable, and roomy. Internet worked great once I got my computer cranking! Nice shower! Room also had refrigerator & small microwave. The truck I was driving didn't fit in the valet parking, but I was able to find a close space on the street. Saved $20. Only problem was checking into the hotel - had to wait while a group of 4 checked in and they ran the guy's credit card four times. Only thing was since I didn't have a reservation I was stuck with a double queen at $134. The clerk asked if floor, or near elevator made a difference. After I checked into the hotel, walked to Primanti Bros. for one of those famous sandwiches. One last complaint. Their van is parked right outside the door blocking the fire hydrant. read more

I woke up this morning intending to give this place three stars but as I checked out with Tony at the front desk it went down to two stars. I checked in last night with a pleasant fellow. Ordered room service, got caught up on work and went to bed in a pleasantly firm bed. The hotel was getting three starts because I could here so much going on in the hallway and in other rooms. I travel for work and as April ends I can tel you I've spent over 20 nights this year sleeping in a hotel. I point that out to advise you I'm aware a hotel is not as quiet as home - and this place was SO NOT QUIET. I like to fall asleep with Cartoon Network on, so happy that Channel was available (not happy NBCSN was not an option during the NHL playoffs) and the sleep timer worked on the TV. But I decided and needed to sleep with he television on ... I could completely hear he TV in the room next door and the footsteps overhead. In the AM I heard neighboring showers and alarms. Even though I needs to get up at 5 am it was all just too much - or enough to note I wouldn't stay here again despite the decent food from room service and the pleasant staff. Then morning came and I checked out with grumpy Tony. List, I could have just left but since it was 6:30 am I thought I'd give then the head's up I was leaving so put my room at the top of the list for housekeeping so you can get ready for incoming folks today. I barely got a response. As I headed out I turned around to ask if I could get a ride with the shuttle driver. Tony's answer was to nod and indicate the shuttle driver was heading out if I wanted to get him. He left it to me to shout after this unknown man. I'm sure Tony knew his name and could have just as easily hailed him instead of leaving me to shout downstairs and how the right sir answers my cry at "excuse me sir." Even still I was willing to chalk this up to despite having signed on to the job maybe it was just too early for Tony. However the shuttle drive stopped and advised he's meet me outside by to take the side door so I could wheel my luggage down a ramp rather than carry it downstairs. I went for the wrong door, turned around and Tony stood there and advised "he was talking about this door" which at that point having known he heard the shuttle driver and neglected to clarify it for me and let me head down the wrong way, I knew I'm absolutely have to write a review and that sadly it was going down to two stars. At my meeting later in the day I mentioned where I stayed without this story and other folks said they stayed there in the past but just couldn't do it again. So - in summary, firm beds, food location if you have an appointment with Pitt, decent room service but terribly thin walls and ceilings: and an occasional grumpy staff member. When things are at their worst, you see people for who they truly are...and the staff here can handle stress. I'm writing this review on my phone during the 5th? hour of a blackout due to a transformer exploding around the corner Up until today, my stay has been uneventful. I had a decent room, in a fairly convenient location, with a comfortable bed and a nice breakfast. That pretty much summed up my first days stay here...and if that had been all I experienced, I'd be torn between 3 and 4 stars. When the power went out, however, it was the staffs time to shine ... They were incredibly patient with the repeated questions of "when will the power go back on"...they provided glow sticks to everyone to make them as comfortable as possible in the rooms... When it was obvious the frozen food was going to melt, they were handing out free ice cream ... Throughout all of this, they kept a calm, friendly demeanor. Good job guys! read more

This was my first visit here, and it won't be the last.(in the past, I stayed at the old Holiday Inn in Oakland, now I think owned by Wyndham), This is now my favorite Oakland hotel. Everything was clean and "new". The staff was so friendly and helpful. I am not a coffee drinker (more of a foo-foo latte type of drinker), but I did love their coffee. Their shuttle service is great...used it to go to a restaurant on the North side and besides having to wait for folks that wanted to go to the greyhound bus station (not Hilton's fault), it all worked out perfectly. They dropped us off and picked us up when we called them. It was nice not having to drive and worry about parking, etc. I am not keen about valet service parking, but these folks were great...very friendly and courteous. All in all it is a great find. Location, service, coffee, cleanliness, good energy. Everything put together made this an excellent place for me to stay and return to. read more

The check-in process was easy. The location is great, close to plentiful options for food and drink. The bed was comfortable. The room was clean. My bathroom was clean and the shampoo replaced each day. The TV worked. There was no in-room safe, and no room service from what I could tell. The hotel is steps away from University of Pittsburgh and not far from Carnegie Mellon University. And therein lies the real problem. The hotel seems to be popular with students and college-age out-of-towners who come to see a game and party. As a result, the hotel gets loud late at night (that is, early in the morning as people return from the bars). The walls are very thin and my room had only a flimsy door that separated me from the room next door. As a result, I could hear EVERYTHING that was said or done in the next room. My recommendation is that if you are on a business trip or need to get some sleep in order to work the next day, stay somewhere else. This is a party hotel for college students who tend to be loud and inconsiderate. read more

Located about 30 minutes from the airport which about a $40 uber ride. Nice hotel with spacious and clean rooms. Great location. There were a lot of people staying at the hotel due to a wedding and the Steelers game, so it didn't help the hotel had a small lobby and small elevators. Hellllo traffic jam. There are only two elevators, so depending how busy it is, you might as well use the stairs. I also had a technical difficulty when I was trying to go to the 9th floor from the 6th floor. I went up alright, but it took me to the 7th floor (there were people waiting to go down from the 7th floor) and even though my 9 button was lit, the elevator started going down to the lobby. I just didn't understand. Staff was friendly and they even had a free shuttle that you can use within certain miles and ends at 9:45pm. There is also a restaurant/bar on site. I didn't get a chance to dine there, but because I was in the wedding party, the bride booked one of the event rooms where breakfast and lunch was catered for us. The food was delicious and fresh. We dined in the Carlow room. I had to turn the temperature up to 70 degrees because it was 60 degrees in the room. By the time we came back for lunch, it was still 60 degrees! All in all, it wasn't a bad stay. read more

I was disappointed by this property. After carrying my luggage up the stairs to check-in, I wasn't greeted by a any one of the two HGI reps at the check-in desk. They went about their own business for a while before acknowledging me. I had checked in online, but I was asked to provide my payment credit card. No big deal. I was never acknowledged as a Diamond honors member. I was handed keys. When I asked which direction I need to go, the rep silently pointed his finger at the elevator. Great to know I'm an inconvenience. I also have my diamond profile set up to receive complimentary breakfast at HGIs. I was not provided with a voucher or information about breakfast. I honestly didn't feel like being at this property any longer than I absolutely needed to- so I didn't even bother asking. Perhaps more hospitable staff could have made my stay better. read more

My daughter and I had to make two separate reservations on the spur of the moment, due to a family member being taken to UPMC Presbyterian on very short notice. My daughter flew on from LA and checked in. She made me a reservation so I could join her the next day. The front desk staff was incredibly helpful. Even out my room on the same floor as my daughter's! They gave her (and perhaps me) a discount due to a family member being in the hospital, which was very nice. On-site valet parking was a help! The hotel is within a short (but mostly UPHILL!) walk to Presby. When the family member was discharged sooner than we expected, they gave my daughter credit on her room and allowed us to store our bags at the hotel until mid-afternoon, as we awaited the discharge paperwork.
