My first stay here was okay, but I definitely had criticisms. I'm just wrapping my second stay now - and I feel it's worse. The room felt like a motel 6 quality - it felt dirty and dated. The front desk staff seems snobby, outside waitstaff was awful, and bar staff was not friendly. Worst part was check-in. I am an honors member and love the pre-check on the app with the electronic key, to avoid lines at the front desk. I travel many times a month ... this is the only Hilton that still requires me to check in at the desk. Every time they blame it on the app, or on me. All other hilton stays have been seamless with the app. Yet again, I had to wait in a line to check in... I have bi-weekly work trips planned for Del Mar / San Diego - I'll NEVER stay here again. read more

This is an older Hilton property that has been refreshed and is located right off I-5 next to the Fairgrounds/race track. We had connecting rooms overlooking the parking lot. The highway noise is lightly audible, but is more like white noise. The rooms were updated and clean. The bathrooms are kind of small, but not a big deal. The fan is super loud, though. Both for the bathroom and the AC unit. We ended up turning off the AC at night so we could sleep. Amenities: only saw the bar area open July 2021 for food and drinks. Website says Coastal Kitchen open w/e only. We did order some food to hang out at the pool - basic food like wings and flatbread with hotel pricing as usual. The pool was a good size and hot tub too. We stayed during the weekdays so it wasn't super crowded in July after the fair was done. Lobby and public spaces were nice and newish. Staff was super nice and helpful. I had an issue with my bill and they fixed it right there at the counter. Regarding location, the beach is a far walk ... I wouldn't walk, but you can walk 2-3 miles. Lot of busy streets not a nice walkway there. We drove to the Dog beach and Solano area beaches (you have to try Parlour Donuts!) It was busy, but not too hard to find street parking during weekdays. If you're into beach vacations, the Hilton San Diego/Del Mar isn't a bad option. It's about a 25 Lyft ride from the airport just north of San Diego several blocks from the ocean. It's a large property with a bar, restaurant, breakfast area, gym, etc. Once you check-in at the lobby, you'll be guided outside to your room. The rooms are all flanking the outdoor pool and hot tub. The rooms themselves are large. The bathrooms are spacious with a separate room for the toilet within the bathrooms. If you're traveling with a baby, there's more than enough space for a crib (that the hotel will provide). If you want a room with a view, ask for it to face the pool and not the parking lot. Two things to note: 1) The hotel is clearly old and it has that musky, beach hotel smell throughout, including your room. 2) The cleaning staff are friendly, but not attentive. Every day I was there, I had to ask for them to clean my room and my room was never fully cleaned afterwards. read more

The front desk team was super friendly. I was with a friend and my friends Airbnb wasn't ready yet when he came in early in the morning. I figured it would be a nice surprise for him to just relax take a nice hot shower and enjoy the coastal town. I used the app DayUse to book a room from 10am to 6pm that day only. When I arrive the front desk found my reservation and got us all set up with a room. Parking was simple and the room was nice and cozy. Checkout was simple and quick too. read more

First stay, had moments to find a place and being a Diamond member without knowledge, booked a night here. Huge rooms, clean, windows need to be updated to double pain as the noise from the pool area, annoying. The carpets, outdated, show their years. The shower curtains, way too short, water gets everywhere, not exactly safe, Wound us using most towels to keep from slipping and falling getting out of the shower. I will say Paulina's service when I checked in, outstanding. Parking, $27 for Diamond members, when I to go Hilton 5 Diamonds, my parking is comped, disappointed. The outdoor bar at night, very nice - great service. The staff served me last minute as when I returned from a meeting they were in process of closing. Best cheeseburger, fries, drink and desert! I am shocked why they have 3 stars, this hotel is beautiful, the location is just gorgeous. I stayed here for the weekend a few weekends ago and it was amazing, from the easy check in process to the secures parking lot which made me feel safe about leaving my car. The pool area is huge, this is by far the best Hilton in San Diego. I went to the bar in the lobby and I wish I can remember his name but he made everything so fresh. He wasn't just a bartender he was a mixologist, he was so kind and made our night even better with his amazing attitude. Can't wait to spend another weekend here! read more

Just one for the front desk assistant that provide some help. Lobby lack of water dispenser for hot or cold water. The wife worthless not able to see my Netflix. The rooms are not clean daily so if you used your courtesy coffe or tea are not clean or replenished.you have to ask the front desk and they just leave the items on the floor!!! If asked again are placed in a bag and handed to you so you have to clean it yourself no paper towels or dish soap what an inconvenience. As consequence you won't use it again. the glasses if you used them good luck if you get clean none as housekeeper service is limited. Stayed here this past weekend. Room was clean and front desk service was super friendly and helpful. However, the bar and restaurant leave something to be desired. We had lunch on the first day and my husband ordered the cheese and pepperoni flatbread. It came out with no pepperoni. They took it back and when it came back out they had clearly just thrown some heated up pepperoni on top of it. It fell off when he picked it up. That night we came back from dinner out and wanted a nightcap. The bartenders clearly had no clue what they were doing. Had that bar been busy it would have been a nightmare. It took 15 minutes to pour a beer and make a martini. And while I waited for my drinks, some man who clearly had been poured too much and irritating everyone, sat at the bar with no shoes on. Apparently he pretty much lives there from the loud conversation I overheard, but this wasn't his living room. The next night we came back from being at the far and wanted a quiet snack in the bar before heading to the room. Kitchen closed at 10pm. It was 9:57pm. Bartender with no personality wouldn't even check to see if we could get a quick sandwich or something. I've worked in restaurants and bars so I understand when things are closing. But, she wasn't going anywhere since the bar was open till midnight and it wouldn't have hurt her to check and see. We walked around the corner to Denny's. This is my third time staying here. Unfortunately there is not an option to stay anywhere else because it is being paid for by my employer. The rooms are absolutely disgusting and the staff are argumentative. The bathtub was clogged and full of debris from the drain. They let me move rooms but overall every room I have stayed in has smelled or been not quite up to par. I would not stay at this hotel. I have had the worst experience interacting with personnel at this hotel. I cancelled my reservation several days before , due to Covid. I was told that if I sent in proof that I would get my refund of $608.00-even though this originally was a non-refundable booking. I spent 2 months and approximately 3 hours talking to different personnel , at different levels and was promised that I would get the credit. One individual was obnoxiously rude and said that I wasn't eligible for the refund even though I was told differently). Finally, I filed a dispute with my credit card company (which in hindsight I should have done at the beginning). Only then was the credit applied. I will never do business with such a poorly run business again. With their attitude, it seems that they would rather have someone stay with Covid then issue a refund. read more

It's not great. Hilton hotels have taken a dive. This by far was the worst one that I've ever stayed in. It's too big not to have room service. We're still in a pandemic so it makes sense. The front desk was accommodating in moving me from room 1069 to the third floor after a tumultuous night. 1069 should have been a broom closet not a room. It's right next to the exterior door and people were slamming doors left and right as if a hotel room with a "privacy please" sign on it didn't exist. The parking situation from the back for rooms 3001 - 3020 and moving luggage is unfortunate. It's not accessible. I really enjoyed dragging my luggage up stairs where it should have been a ramp. I'm not a person who needs accessible necessities but I could see how it could be bad for someone who needs them. The bedding was comfortable. The towels were motel quality and not plush. Other than the convenience of location, this place is not worth staying. They charge you for parking but don't even tell you that they were until you're checking out. The pictures make the place look way better than it was. It was run down and the pool didn't even stay open past 9. There was literal mold on the sprinklers within my room and the difference between the ones in the hallway is disgusting. It is a health hazard and all they could do for me was remove the parking fee because I booked through a third party but one would think that if they could partner with them in the first place then why could they not arrange something more for me other than give me free parking I didn't even know I was going to have to be paying for in the first place. This is not a hotel for adults. I cut my long weekend short because I was so disappointed in this hotel. First of all it was noisy. Children were running through the halls every morning starting at seven am and every noise reverberated in the room. Second, it was dirty. People would use the pool and dump their towels in the hall. People also left their waste baskets filled to the brim in the hall. Once I even found popcorn strewn all over the hallway. But the worst offense was when I was taking a shower and I opened my "clean" towel to find black gunk on it. When I told the front desk I was leaving early, they didn't ask why. No one came either of the times, so then we just decided to ask for a fan and they said he would be up quickly but he waited 1hr and 30 minutes to come up. Don't be fooled by the lovely and vivid color, it is a serious salt attack. I mean, like, it is the You-can-call-ambulance type of bad. No kidding. Let me start by saying the hotel is clean and very well located, the restaurant bar is nice and the food is good. Security was also good. That being said, the hallways, although well lit and provide ample room for persons and luggage, are like echo chambers that amplify even the slightest noise straight into the rooms. All night and very early morning kids hollering, parents talking, every little noise bouncing off the walls into the room. We went to the hot tub for a little relaxation before bed, got down there shortly after 9:00 pm. The sign on the pool gate says 9:00 pm closing however the guest book in the room says 10:00 pm, which worked to our advantage, but they should support each other. Also, the sheets are ridiculously loud, don't roll over or you will wake not only yourself, but also your neighbors. I felt so horrible for my husband who had to get up for a meeting the next morning because between the yelling and loud sheets he got no sleep. Hotel needs TLC. Bathrooms were old and water stood in the tub while we showered. No coffee in the room and you need to pay for a plain cup of coffee at the restaurant if you want any in the morning. I stayed here with some friends last minute and am so glad we all stayed! We loved it. We had 4 rooms with 4 families who all were checking in at the same time. The front desk agents made sure that we were all near each other which was amazing. The hotel itself has a large pool in the middle and is surrounded by guest rooms. The rooms/property were very nice and updated. The rooms were very clean! The restaurant looked beautiful but wasn't open at this time due to COVID. I happened to notice my previous 3 star review the first time I stayed here. Since then, I've stayed many, many times and have had excellent experiences, so am updating my review. It may have helped that my Hilton status improved, but we always get a nice room now (facing courtyard) and are treated very well. Great bar and outside area (esp after remodel) and always enjoy the executive lounge. The shuttle pickup from the amtrak and to local places is a nice convenience too. This is our go to place to stay when in the area, especially when we're going to the racetrack. Haven't been there in a year due to covid, but we will be back! read more

I had booked a room over the phone the day of for a last minute staycation and hung out in the area for the day and I missed a call but I didn't know who it was and they didn't leave a voicemail. Late in the evening we go to the hotel to check in and I am told that we don't have a room because something went wrong with the card on file. So apparently they called to let me know that and since I didn't answer there was no message asking to call back for another card or to let me know that I didn't have a room after all because they canceled my reservation!!! When I got to the hotel that night thinking we were finally going to relax I find this out and they have no rooms to accommodate me and pretty just shrugged their shoulders! We booked a non-refundable 2 day stay, and upon entering the hallway and whole place smelled like old smoke weed? It hurt my lungs. The worst part was our whole room was swarming with BUGS!!! Bed bugs, ants, pincher bugs and the worst part about it was the front desk knew about it!!! We canceled immediate after barely 5 minutes in the room and she said she knew there were bugs. So. Gross. Got this as a Priceline "Express" deal on a particularly packed travel weekend when less expensive options were all booked. Found that Hilton has clearly put most of its money in the lobby, pool, and dining areas---the actual rooms are very mediocre, pretty much on par with a La Quinta or Best Western type 2 to 3 star hotel. Ours had a very very soft mattress that I hated, and an overly loud bathroom fan. It did have a mini-fridge, which I was not expecting from a 4 star hotel, but was happy to have it. Not happy to find out that they gouge you $22 for the privilege of parking your own car ("self-parking" on the bill), which makes me wonder how much they gouge you for the valet parking out front. Also, their listing on Priceline listed "parking" and "breakfast buffet" along with a slew of other things that hotel has at no extra charge, but both of them are NOT included with the room---just sneaky, sneaky, sneaky! Only bright point of this hotel is that they have a pretty decent gym unlike most hotels: 2 dreadmills, 2 ellipticals, 1 rowing machine, 1 double pulley machine with pullup bars, 2 Swedish balls, 5 medicine balls, 5 to 50lbs of dumbbells and an adjustable bench. read more

Not sure why this hotel only has 3 stars on Yelp? I would definitely recommend this property. Just don't book during Fair season unless you are attending the fair as the traffic surrounding the hotel is horrible due to a one way in and out to the fair. Traffic is backed up to I5 freeway and is standstill around the hotel at all hours of the day and especially in the evening. Hubby and I checked in here on a Friday evening after a very long and tiring drive from Sacramento. We were booked here for attending a Wyndham presentation at one of their properties in Oceanside. Unfortunately there was some confusion on who cancelled our reservation. Both properties claimed the other one was responsible. After some haggling between Hilton and Wyndham we were finally given a room. The lobby, furniture, and hotel grounds are quite lovely here. The carpeting is very plush and appeared to be new. There is a lot of walking involved as there were only two small elevators for the entire property so if you have an elderly or an impaired person with you request to be close to elevator. The room was basic but bedding and pillows are very comfortable and clean, furniture is modern and new. Bathroom was clean and Peter Thomas Roth toiletries are used so of course I stocked up on them! I spent an afternoon at the pool which was clean and nicely landscaped with plenty of loungers and seating. They had Pool side waiter for food and drink service. The turkey club and fries from the restaurant were delicious. One of the best features of this property is a complimentary shuttle for use within 5 miles of the hotel. We utilized this service to get dropped off at local restaurants for dinner and even Starbucks in the morning. The young men who were driving were always friendly and professional. Would recommend this property if staying in DelMar or want to stay close to San Diego . read more

Very disappointed. The service at this Hilton was more than subpar. As a Hilton honors member, I expected to be treated with more respect than I received. Being under the impression that you are typically required to be 18 years old to check into a hotel, I drove from SF to San Diego to be turned down with no warning or help from the staff for referrals or what to do next. The staff was very judgement and rude. The woman at the front desk was seemed very annoyed and was rolling her eyes and huffing to herself as she thought this situation was comical. The manager was friendly, however I am disappointed that he was unable to help us other than letting us know that there was nothing he could do. I normally have great experiences with Hilton hotels and hope that this will be a one time thing. read more
