The Muni is getting to be dangerous. Trees & branches falling, golfers urinating on the fairways near trees, workers spraying to poison grass and the air becomes toxic to the worker & neighborhood & golfers, and the faster lawnmowers which they start mowing at 4:30am pollute the air and disturb the neighbors along the course! What's worse is that the new Mayor & his administration are hurrying to fence the golf course, without even doing an Environmental Impact Assessment to examine the dangers of fire and its impact on the nearby neighbors to escape in the event of a fire . There are no other fenced public golf courses in Hawaii... why ... Be careful & protect yourself from falling branches, poison, pollution, and other hazards on & around the Muni. #livealoha #malamapono read more

The food was good once we got it. It took a really long time that's all. They could use a little better customer service. The beginning of our night started like trash I was really upset but the night ending better and that was only because of the company. I been there many time but tonight was one of the worst nights I experienced. I hope the next time I go there or if I go back that, I can post a better review. read more

I'm a Hilo boy, now living in California. I make it back every year and this year met up with my old friends at the restaurant. I haven't been to the golf course in a very very long time. My dad golfed there a couple times a week when he was alive, it was like his second home to him. Anyway, the place has really shaped up, the clubhouse and restaurant looks great. Way better than I remember. I didn't golf so I can't comment of the course conditions but I really liked the restaurant. It was laid back (like everything in Hilo) and comfortable. The service was attentive, the food was good and the beer cold. What more can you ask for. Also its a legit restaurant open till 10pm, so doesn't close when the golf course does (at dark). read more

Ono Korean chicken wings (a recommendation of the house), with fresh salad and 2-scoops of rice! Saimin is a favorite when not too hungry. Chicken katsu is good too, doesn't taste oily, with katsu sauce. Prompt service and piping hot food! read more

I just had a small gathering of 30 people for my daughter's graduation celebration. The service was great. Food took awhile for 30 people ordering appetizer and regular food, but the wait was worth it. Our waitress was Pam and did a great job taking care of my group. What can I say about my home course? I've been playing this course regularly since moving back and have come to really enjoy it. Yes, it is a municipal course that probably gets some 60,000 rounds a year BUT is generally in great shape especially for the green fees. Any locals are eligible for the $40 flat fee monthly card, this gets you unlimited play with a $3.00 surcharge for weekend play! WHAT A DEAL! I recently joined one of the long established men's golf clubs (the Duffers). There are many groups who play here regularly, everyone's got set tee-times for all days of the week. If you're headed there for a round of vacation golf, call ahead to make sure tee times are available. Free play after 5pm. read more

Stopped by the course to have lunch at Kim's. Had to try the Chicken Katsu since it is on the must try list. I have to say it was absolutely amazing. Not oily, very juicy and the Katsu sauce was increcible. It's a must try. read more

Worst service for the second time! I ordered BLT with side of potato mac salad. Friend ordered Korean chicken. First the side of potato mac was delivered. Then a small plate of ketchup. Next my BLT. Much later, the Korean chicken. The BLT had bad bread, lettuce with brown edges, and a sliver of bacon. My friend had no comment in the chicken she waited forever for. DO NOT eat here-DRINK instead! As a 100% disabled veteran I did not appreciate the disabled parking space taken up by employees and players who are not disabled. I also did not appreciate being forced to walk way back to my car to get my clubs because they don't allow it, even if your an old senior disabled veteran and the disabled spaces are full. NO one offered to help me and no one cared I was disabled. They also don't take credit cards and have fun sending people to a cash machine that they already know don't work. I found the discussion of stupid haoleys by a large group of locals in front of the pro shop distasteful. I also found most everyone (employees) to be kinda burnt out and not very friendly. This is the same way I was treated 25 years ago when I played here and that's why I don't play golf at the muni. This is the most unfriendly golf course I have ever played on. read more
