And of course this was all free and and fun; who cares whether people at the Lagoon hotel called the cops????? Just shut everything off when the cop cars came along! YEAH!!!!! Then they SHUT OFF the outlets..... WHAT???? NO CAN JAM!!!!! BUT they forgot the lights! ahahahaha Connect to the lights and JAM!!!! hahahahaha Cops still came.... but the cops were really cool! They like music too!!!!!! ............ uhhhhh wait.... Ok, now Wailoa state park is much nicer. I see BBQ areas, they painted the rails on the bridges. Kids are swimming???? Wait, you can swim there? I thought it had barracuda????? Anyway I know they have a turtle! I saw the turtle and it was a nice one! This is a nice place to walk and remember the jam sessions that used to happen and fun everyone used to have! I'm sure people are enjoying it now. Looks like a good place to have a reception after a wedding! And I don't think people at the old Lagoon would mind....

Like many other people who come to the big island on holiday, one of the things you do is go in…read moresearch of at least a few of the area waterfalls. Even if the area you come from has some, chances are they/the surroundings don't look like this. We were here a few days before Lala and it was already raining buckets. The upside to that was getting to see the Wailuku River already bringing some serious current and water flow. First things first. If you try to come here, ignore all GPS listings. If you follow them, you will show up at someone's house & driveway. While I'm sure the actual falls are by/next to/close to their property, I'm also sure they get enough idiot tourists trying to enter their property and go past the large private property sign they have on their fence. There is no parking lot. There are no amenities, etc. Your choices for parking are along the side of the road which currently is somewhat dicey as the north west corner of the bridge area is under construction. You cannot park on the bridge (at least you really, really shouldn't) and a small parking lot attached to the school which is there. None are good and all are questionably legal depending on how you do it. With that said, we came briefly, took our pictures and left. Probably not the best idea to camp out & hike where it's not designed for it - piss off the locals, etc.

The falls are worth the walk, the only issue being is getting to see the very bottom, where the water hits the lagoon. It takes a bit of stretching to see that bit. It certainly helps if you're tall-ish. I highly recommend making the effort to see the falls.

Once you drive into area, you go to security area and state you are there for the beach. They will let you know if parking lot/beach is full. If not, you are given a pass to enter. You make a u-turn and it will be the first right. You just press button for security and I'm sure they are watching and recognize you, they buzz you in. There will be signs to follow. This is a clean beach. Bathrooms are so very clean, showers are warm. White sands and beautiful water. You have a choice to walk down further. It's really nice. The water is just gorgeous and such a calm place. We come here often. It's easy to get to and like I said, very clean. Security is so very friendly and very welcoming!

It was our first time on the Big Island, so our kids were excited about the black sand. Minus one star because we saw a little one toddle off to go potty in the grass - with a bathroom not a hundred yards away. Parents were still in the car, and she had TP, so it was an intentional potty stop, definitely not an accident or an "oops, my kid peed in the park situation." We tend to like to trust that liquid on the ground at a beach is water, but this definitely made me second-guess.

Its water is murky due to the heavy industrial boom in the mid-1990's. We always pass this every time we drive to Volcano Park. This is mainly located on Kamehameha Avenue into downtown Hilo. You'll see people picnicking or simply walk your dog in here. But I am not sure if this is a good spot for fishing as the water impose threat on its physical texture and condition. One time we decided to check this place and there were homeless putting up their tent and there's a stench that you can't explain where it came from. If you are downtown driving on Ali'i Drive, you may be lucky and find an open street parking spot…read more(heading south) right next to this pocket park. There is a small retaining wall to keep cars out, but with an opening wide enough to walk through to gain access to the shaded grassy part of the park. There are palm trees adding to the appeal of the park which has a paved sidewalk winding through it. There are also benches for staying awhile and a few poorly maintained portolets if you have to use them. The grassy part of the park is behind a low lava rock barrier that we had no difficulty stepping over to walk on the wet lava rock formations that created numerous tide pools and acted like a reef to break the waves before they reached to small wall. The rock was fairly level, but was wet, so use cautiion when wandering out. The park isn't intended for swimming so there aren't sandy beaches to stretch out on. But the park does offer beautiful views of the ocean and was generally in good condition. Review #2356

Also, please don't litter and don't use soaps and shampoo at the shower. The water goes straight into the ocean and pollutes the environment. Use only reef-safe sunscreen. A rash guard is an easier option to protect yourself from the sun without harming coral. No spray sunscreen. Whenever someone sprays sunscreen all over the place, other people inhale it and feel sick from it.

The water is clear and very little waves in May so it was perfect for floating around, snorkeling or swimming. We saw a few turtles swim by as we were floating around enjoying the water. No lifeguards, no bathrooms, no parking lot, no nothing.... just a trail down to a nice beach. More locals than tourists usually. Leave your resort wear and screaming kids at the resort. This is a mellow beach......... don't ruin it for the rest of us.

If you swim a little deeper you can see the pretty fishes. It started raining a little bit but it was still nice to swim in the blue ocean. The volcanic black rocks surrounding the area is very cool too. There is a resort right on the beach and the beautiful green grass is gorgeous with tropical views. You can also rent out scuba gear and paddle boards by the Kona Beach Boys rental stand on the beach. There are bathrooms and rinse off stations on the pier that's next to the beach. I had a good time swimming here and taking pictures.
