I saw kids, and college students getting haircuts from the two barbers, both of whom were very nice. I was happy with my haircut, and the barber used a razor to finish fixing it, which to me is the difference between a good cut, and some rando haircut place. She also asked me whether I wanted to trim or blend my hair, which is exactly the right kind of question, because I never know what I want and I have to be nudged in the right direction. I like the I could use a credit card to pay, and to leave a tip. My only suggestion would be for the barbers to use warm foam. Also New Brunswick is a pain to park in, so give yourself time to get there.

The place looked like a barber shop in the middle of a nice game room. The barber (sorry couldn't recall his name) asked the requirements and quickly jumped to work. He did a pretty clean job but I had a complete turn off when he assumed that I wouldn't need long sideburns and decided to chop it off short. I immediately told him that I usually sport long sideburns and he must have checked with me before proceeding. I was equally surprised that it cost $35 for a simple haircut. Anyway the place had good aesthetics and ambience and it would definitely cost that much if you are also making use of their pool table or the PlayStation. I also found the music little too loud as both of us found it difficult to hear each other.

I've followed Ryan from Bridgewater to Scotch Plains to Edison, and finally over to his own shop when it was opened a few years ago. Why do I drive from Branchburg to Metuchen and pass a zillion barbershops on the way? Because the quality of the cut and attention to detail from Ryan, and from all of the World of Beards barbers for that matter, is second to none. They take their time with their clients and ensure that each client is satisfied beyond their expectations. (I even trusted Ryan's recommendation on a new hair style that he felt would suit me better and, not only was he right, but I've never got back to my old style.) World of Beards = A great cut, great shave, great barbershop conversation, a beautiful shop, not to mention that they're phenomenal and caring human beings... I knew I found the right place when I could simply tell them to do to my hair and beard the way they would if they woke up one morning and looked like me, lol! (She always did quality work). I figured I'd give this new guy Quan a chance. He was friendly but this is about the service provided. He absolutely butchered my neck and I don't have sensitive skin. He didn't even put on any spray or lotion for the burn. Picture is 5 hours later and my neck is still red and burning. I'd be surprised if he cleans his clippers. You don't like that they don't use foil razors, or do hard parts, or engage in other tonsorial arts that make people aware through your haircut that you are mercifully free of the ravages of intelligence? There's a reason haircuts that your grandpa had (and your grandpa could have rocked a sweet pompadour, they're not just for Morrissey---, or a nice undercut, or even a simple "short on the sides, trim on top" sorta thing) are just as relevant today as ever- they look good and can be worn in every situation. There are plenty of dudes out there who will be more than happy to carve a flying baseball with the Mets logo in your head, and more than enough dudes out there chopping people's scalps up with tools that are not quality. Just not here. Here- they actually know what they are doing. So when the barber explains to you why getting a 1 to skin fade on one side and a 7 to 3 on the other, and why the top of your head being cut only with thinning shears at your specified angle of choice is a bad idea- you should listen. Generally- people who have done a thing and are quite good at it (like, barbering for example) are better at understanding how stuff works than you are. You should listen to them. Unless you want a sick blow-out and chin-strap beard. Then don't go here. This isn't a salon, this isn't a unisex-beauty-all-in-one-that-also-sells-phonecards. This isn't some place with an in-house barista/DJ that only plays Brian Eno atmospheric albums (but not the ones you like) and charges you $80 for the luxury of bestowing your eyes upon a pair of scissors hand forged by a master of Damascus steel but charges you $45 for the plebeian experience of having some dude with three months experience cutting the back of your head up with a buzzer. This is a barbershop. One that has a fun, welcoming atmosphere. One that consistently gives great haircuts, and I've had my hair cut by all the employees there and they always do a good job every time. This is a place that smells like Layrite and bay-rum, uses hot towels, and has one of those hot foam machines. This is a great haircut, for a great price, in a great little shop.
