Sure this school has a history with footballs wins, but it doesn't mean neglecting your other clubs and activities. Sometimes they set aside class time to attend an awarding ceremony in the gym to congratulate football players that are graduating or getting money, and it always last for about an hour. This year they started using AI to make posters instead of just consulting the art teacher to request assignments associated with school spirit, they're already neglecting their art program anyways, which I'lll get to later. I told a teacher that I didn't like the use of AI for a yellow bear in a football shirt with muscles in the classic big top build and short legs next to a hip hop studio station looking things, and said teacher told me "Why don't you just go to a different school?". Look, I didn't even want to go to this school and it's not like I can leave, but you shouldn't tell a student, especially a P-TECH student to leave this school because they don't like the staff using AI to make school posters when school spirit has and should always be human-made and expressed. On top of back, back to the neglected art topic, if I'm not mistaken SOC is paired up with Mountain View which I believe is a college very passionate with art. I had a tour of which I hope was the same school, and they had a whole hallway to show case art, a pottery room, there was even an Alice In Wonderland theater going on that friday. It's ironic that SOC is using AI imaging, one of the top things fighting artists, while being allegedly paired with an art college, not to mention this college is the reason the P-TECH program is relatively there and functioning in SOC. On top of that, the P-TECH majors there at the time I'm writing this is Personal Computering, Electrical Technology, Kinesiology(for some reason, no shame to it it's just a little absurd to me), and one related to piloting. Notice how there isn't an Art related major? I initially figured majors were a difficult process to have when being a P-TECH high school so I asked a P-TECH counselors why despite being paired with a college that has a passionate art reputation, we have no art majors, she gave me an explanation I understood, but ove explained it a lot that I didn't understand anymore. I told why I didn't understand, and she just told me she overexplained to make sure the ones she's talking to understands, which also didn't make sense to me because she didn't really try to undermine her overexplaining, and the conversation was going on much longer than I expected it to, mostly due to the overexplaining. This school also caused me a lot of stress socially wise. The work there is fine, it's just the classmates and other students I had along with a good chunk of the teachers that made me want to rebel my reputation of a being the obedient, gifted, over-achieving kid. I feel it now despite it only being a month in this school year as a Sophomore. Also, same teacher that told me to go to a different school, she does this thing where she has podiums for different class periods and she has growth goals. I understand that the growth goals aren't of her control, which is why I'm more commenting on the district right now but she's still in relevance. Nevertheless, I don't think a competitive circumstance will help kids do better performance wise. Sure, some poeple get that overzealous thrill, but many other people would feel pressured and may not do their best as a result, or others might shut down entirely. Just saying, people experience expectations very differently, and I find that her classroom system, which is common but she mentions the podium stuff more often than any teacher I had, isn't a 100% guaranteed boost one-size-fits-all. In addition to growth goals, I don't find them very helpful either. Sure, they just be there to help students know what grades are considered an improvement, but the same teacher tells us that we should always be performing above our growth goal. Take, for example, my growth goal, which is a 94. If you think about it, that menas I can only miss one or no questions on every assignment, maybe two questions if I'm lucky, and that isn't healthy. No kid should be expected to perform almost perfect grades on every classwork given to them just because of a score. No human, especially teenagers and children, are robots. We can't ingrave mistakes in our memories and smoothly answer questions and meet high standards. Humans are flawed creatures and realistically make mistakes, but that doesn't make you stupid or intelligent, let alone unfit for a progam like P-TECH, it just makes you imperfect, and the concept of perfect is already an impossible standard, so don't make someone obsess over it because its only gonna cause burn-out and low self-esteem. I'd recommend going to ANY other Dallas College Campus. The people here (resgistration at least) do not seem to ACTUALLY care about you. Classes that should be there are left off and instructors that left years ago and will not be teaching are still listed. Opt-out does not work after a year of trying to get help through every avenue possible. Emeritus students get dumped 4 times a semester for non-payment when their classes are supposed to be free. The employees are wonderful, but they are not trained and nothing ever gets fixed. Implementing Workday has been a complete disaster and has done nothing but cause problems for everyone. Students will spend hours on the online queue only to get dumped without being helped. Going on campus for services takes hours and one will be shuffled endlessly from one department to another as no one knows how to do anything. Communication is absolutely terrible across the board. Dirty professors like Dr. Andrew Evangelista will put students into dozens of hours that will not transfer, but will exhaust financial aid and may land students in out of state tuition upon transfer. Despite numerous complaints nothing is done to stop rogue professors like him. He was a temporary Music Department Chair and now has been named a permanent one. He added junior level classes that can never transfer and has expanded the music program into complete collapse. Who wants to sing in a choir of 7? Dallas College is a disorganized and chaotic mess. When will the administration and the board start listening to students, paying parents, taxpayers and graduates of the program and making the desperately needed changes?

An admissions team member came out and basically gave us the tour on a map while outlining our walk. Seriously. She spent a solid 30-45 minutes with us and gave us food for thought (comparing TCU and SMU). Campus folks were friendly too as we were wandering. Very impressed by libraries, museums, and construction on the business school.

I had missed turning into the parking lot across from the museum and went around the block. I'm so glad that I did. After my visit to the museum, I did a quick tour of the campus before heading out for lunch. I love the wide pathways as you move from one building to the next. The architecture is beautiful and stunning. I loved the status of horses and Blanton Student Services Building. I am always inspired when I set foot on any campus. I will always be a student at heart, but I need to put my money towards my food love for now instead of a PhD! (23)

I have had many people question why I would send my kids to GHS due to the perception many people have of it being a "rough" school. It is like any other city school- if you are looking for trouble you can surely find it. Do not let that perception keep you from exploring GHS as an option. It is the only GISD HS to offer the IB program and if your child is eligible for the IB program it is a great opportunity. As far as athletics and the arts, GHS traditionally has great programs. The athletes form strong bonds and stick together and that really does help steer the kids clear from any trouble that your child will find at any school. Keep your child connected to some sort of group-academics, sports or arts-and they will excel at GHS. Being an Owl has created many memories for my kids and I feel very blessed. Gig 'em Owls!!

The neighborhood in which the facility is located is nice, there is a recreational center right across the street that is sometimes used by the school for science projects and what not. The environment of the school is very clique-y and it is quite visibly noted during lunch where mostly white students (with some exceptions) eat at the student center while black and Hispanics tend to drift in the cafeteria, why this is I will never understand. Staff doesn't really mind the cliques and in some cases it seems they promote it. Hm... My biggest issue with this institution is the staff. Most of the staff here is very prissy, rude and unprofessional. If you need something from them I advice you to send them a notice 2 years prior because unless someone is dying or it benefits them, they really don't care. It's been brought to my attention from many of the students that are currently attending in school…read moreclasses that there is a black flag with a blue stripe right as you enter the school. If the school officer likes it so much it should be put in his office. This flag is offensive to many and has no place in the school halls. Many students are unhappy with it being put in the halls, not cool at all and very inappropriate with what's going on right now.
