The children's area is spacious and has fun features like a LEGO table that encourages creativity and learning. While some other libraries may offer more toys, I actually like that this space isn't overcrowded--it helps children stay focused and use their imagination. The staff were all very polite, friendly, and helpful. Overall, it's a wonderful place to relax, read, study, or spend quality time with your kids. I'll definitely be coming back.

It has evolved from a quiet spot to grab a book into a true hub for creativity and connection. I like that Kate Hall, the director, is always looking for input from the patrons on how to make the library even better. One of the many things I love about NPL is their 'Library of Things.' Over the summer, I used their recording technology to digitize a bunch of old VHS tapes from the comfort of my home. Last night, I participated in a virtual glass fusion workshop. The materials pickup and drop off, and the class itself was all well-coordinated and user-friendly. I thoroughly enjoyed that class as well as others I have taken in the past, such as book-making. Additionally, I love the fact that I can put books on hold, and that either the NPL staff will pull the books for me, or other libraries will send them over to NPL. It's super convenient to then be able to just walk in the door and grab my books off the shelf. I seriously could go on and on about all the things I love here. The Northbrook Public Library is easily the best resource in Northbrook!

These days they aren't interested in the library programming, but I find myself stopping here often to pick up books for them. I typically reserve the book ahead of time and then they have it waiting for me by the front desk to check out. It's beyond easy and never takes more than a few minutes to check out the latest novel on their wish list. And the best part- it's free! Returning the book is even easier since they have a drop attached to the outside of the library so i don't even have to go inside. While I"m a big reader myself I prefer to ready on my kindle so I borrow all my books thru the libby app, but love having this amazing library nearby for my kids!

Let not the stately, historical exterior fool you; this facility is all sorts of state-of-the-art from the materials they carry (e.g., current DVDs) to the technologies they employ (downloadable e-books). I can't help but always be impressed and pleased at having access to this library as a local resource through the parental units. Walking through the doors here inevitably leads to happy feelings!

Besides the wonderful children's section that continues to be a highlight of our week, I've been borrowing books on CD. They have a decent selection and the front librarians can point you to the ones worthwhile to check out. I spend a lot of time in the car and these have been a lifesaver. I've also gotten addicted to checking out books online. Yes! This library lets you borrow E-books from the comfort of your own home. Perfect for us parents who are on the go and don't have the ability to pursue the stacks on our own time. The library offers multiple study areas and free wi-fi. Yeah baby! So you can set up for the day if you need to get some work done ... But quiet library etiquette is still the rule so put away that annoying cell phone! Also, if you need a book and the library doesn't carry it, the reference desk is extremely helpful in getting an inter library loan for you. I can't tell you how many crabby librarians I've had to work with at other libraries. But not here! They're all helpful and approachable. Oh. And they're on Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter. However you need to reach them, they're there. One minor thing -- I do think it's time for them to update the adult media stacks from a decor standpoint. But really, I'm so please to call the Lake Forest library my home library.

When transferring from my local community college to a 4 year school, I was very picky about where…read moreI wanted to attend. I needed an in-state, small, private, non-affiliated school that was in both a good area and known for excellence in education. Turns out the only school that fit that criteria was Lake Forest College. At Lake Forest College, you are able to develop very close relationships with your Professors and fellow classmates. As someone who has graduate school on their radar, this is essential as letters of recommendation are not easily obtained at larger and more impersonal universities that many people are familiar with. The college has excellent internship programs for most all majors in particular, the psychology program. The practical experience acquired during these internships truly put you ahead the rest of the pack post-graduation. I highly recommend taking advantage of the internships as getting these experiences outside of Lake Forest College are very hard and not to mention rare to obtain. The best part about this place however, is the quality of education. You will learn so much here it's really unbelievable. With that said, you will also work soooo hard it's unbelieveable, making this place more of a grad-prep school than anything else. To attend here, it is a little pricey however, this school was ranked #11 for awarding financial aid in the nation. Most everyone gets some form of grant money or scholarship, which makes going here much more affordabale than what you may initially believe. Some other exciting things happening here will be the new Johnson Science Center which is expected to be completed around 2017. Johnson is being rebuilt to meet the growing demand of the ever popular Life Science majors such as Biology and Neuroscience. Speaking of which, the Neuroscience major here is truly outstanding with high placement into the field of medicine post-grad. Also, this school has an awesome Forester for Life alumni service that helps graduates find jobs, network, and revise resumes which is something a graduate like myself is very thankful for. In summation, if you are like me and would like to attend a small school offering such a huge package, Lake Forest College is for you! I stopped a young man who was a student and he explained exactly turn by turn how to get to the Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse which houses the rink. He was a shining example of the type of friendly, respectful and well spoken student one would hope to find here. The ice rink was state of the art and spectator seats were comfortable chairs and not the usual bleacher style seating. It was a comfortable temperature inside as well.
