The library is great. Tons of books . . . More than Barnes and Noble! Awesome staff who are super helpful. If you don't have a phone with google, you can call the research desk and they will look things up for you like weather, state dept country risks, or author home addresses. Library also has quite a few computers; probably like 100 but maybe only like 80. If you like to read books or do computer games or just need someone to talk to just come to the library. Don't talk to me though, I am busy working on important stuff. Try the blonde hair lady as a lot of fellows seem to talk to her. I once experienced an odd thing at the library but I don't want to get into it. Go to the library, check your property tax bill as that is the only reason you need. read more

I love this library! They helped us organize a scavenger hunt field trip here one evening and it was fantastic. The librarians here are all extremely helpful and eager to help! I love the setup of this library. The downstairs is child and preteen friendly with group tables and even study rooms you can reserve for up to two hours for four people. It was also pretty exciting that they stock new release DVDs, blurays and video games that you can rent for free! I plan on returning since I discovered that you can use an Illinois library card at any location. I really like how this library has a fireplace that you can read a good book around while enjoying a hot coffee (yes beverages are allowed). I hope this does not change when they remodel! read more

Deerfield Public Library - Libraries Near Me - Deerfield, Illinois

I came here last week as part of an after-school field trip. The staff gave our students a tour and arranged a quick scavenger hunt of the library. The students seemed to really enjoy it, as did I! The library is still in an old building, but it holds a lot of charm with its big windows and brick walls. Mirrors and art adorn the walls and hallways, the lighting is perfect (not too dim and not too bright), the children's area was so colorful and inviting, many people were working in all areas of the library, and there was even a cute little fireplace in one of the reading rooms! To top it off, the DVD, BluRay, and video game selection was great! I saw many good film titles on display (I'm a film snob). The designated teenager section is nice too, complete with study tables and brightly colored chairs. I think I might find myself reading a book in the attractive children's section, though. The only downside? The library needs a bigger selection of adult non-fiction books. However, one of the employees told us the library will be remodeled soon, so I assume there will be more in the future. For such a small library, I was pretty impressed. read more

I feel so fortunate to have such a great library in our community! Obviously there are books (lots of them - you can reserve online - also access to ebooks), but this library has so much more!! The Deerfield Library recently completed the addition of a large makerspace on the main level, complete with 3D printers, a laser engraver, sewing machine and more. What a neat resource. The kids' area is also great, with lots of toys (blocks, trains, dress up, etc) for smaller kids. I don't love the way that the little kid books are organized, only because I never know authors, but the libarians are so helpful that it's not really an issue. This library also has a lot of great programming. The drop-in story times are great - books, songs, activities and bubbles. I look forward to getting to experience other library programs as my child gets older (and when I maybe someday have more free time for myself). read more

The books here are very clean and well organized. However, people working here near the kid area are neither friendly nor welcoming. My daughter asked the librarian a question about finding a book she really liked, and she seemed bothered by it because she was in the middle of doing something. read more

To the librarian that chooses to be rude to patrons instead of being helpful, this review is for you. Being in Deerfield and paying the amount of taxes we pay I would expect the librarian at Deerfield public library to be more helpful and understanding of children and parents when they are needing help finding books or movies. It is not your place to scold nor make derisive gestures to my family. I hope whoever runs the library reads this review and remembers the library is there for everyone to use. Very disappointed, a lot of other things that Deerfield runs are great. (Water parks, the park district etc..) Just not the personnel at the library. The director of the Library contacted me and apologized for the experience I had. I appreciate the follow up on her side. That is why am changing my review to four stars. I was here this past Saturday and received help from Maddy and Trish. Both of them were extremely nice and helpful. I had previously called during the week and talked to two men one whose name was Tyler, I don't know the other ones name. Both of them were rather rude and didn't seem to know what was going on in the library. They gave me different answers to the same question and Tyler told me the library was closed this past Sunday, when it was actually open. I did enjoy being back in the building after so long and look forward to coming here more often. read more

This is a nice library with a helpful staff. Big and clean and with some comfortable chairs and some quiet places. The printing on the public computers is slightly confusing but as I wrote they have a helpful staff. Parking can be wretched sometimes though/ May be the best library in the northern suburbs I might say. Libraries are still important institutions folks! read more

This is almost the true heart of Deerfield , a real nice place & I hear the next remodel might have a new escalator ! From Books , to Media, nice fireplace , nice space.. Every modern service is offered, my book was out , yet I just downloaded it to read at home. Bright & Inviting, you want to go back ! Great Visual UpGrades ! One of the things I love most about living in this area, is that we have some quality libraries. Deerfield Public Library has a very vast selection of books, periodicals, and media. It's not the largest library in the area, but I've always managed to find what I need. Their staff is very knowledgeable, and all of their equipment is well maintained. I can run in and out in just a matter of minutes, thanks to their excellent automated search and checkouts. It's also a very comfortable location, with plenty of seating and the upper level gets nice sunlight during the day. While I don't generally take advantage of all of their special events, they have a great variety of offerings. This is a great area for libraries, and Deerfield's is among my favorite. read more

So the first thing that you notice in the library is the books. You don't have to pay to use the books here. Well, you do but you actually pay even if you don't want to on your property tax bill. You don't have a choice, you must pay. It's kind of like a country club that you are forced to join but they don't have tennis or golf but books about tennis and golf. I actually don't know for sure if they have books about tennis and golf but it's a fair assumption. Anyway, the library also has a great assortment of DVDs and something called a bluerayer which is like a DVD but a smaller one. They no longer have VHS. You can't even order a VHS. I asked this one guy that works there and he told me so. He was a librarian but not like Noah Wiley, a regular librarian. Anyway, the books are in really good shape. If you break up with your girlfriend and leave a book at her house, you have to buy it. They are firm on this. It sucks pretty bad. This actually happened to me and I didn't really want to pay but I'm the long run, I'm glad the girl is gone. She was a non reader . . . and chubby. I am sure she has good qualities but I just lacked the ability to find them. I guess you can check out telescopes and ukuleles which is awesome . . . I guess if you are into that. I am into checking out books and VHS. read more

I took a introductory computer class on HTML Coding taught by Anne Jamieson and she did a great job. Now you should not expect to hang out your shingle and start raking in a windfall of $$ as a website designer on the internet highway without a little more education, but it you would like to stick your nose under the tent and get a sense of the what the heck HTML/CSS is all about . . . do this class. Very basic, suitable for everyone, Anne keeps you engaged, makes sure you are understanding the hands on classwork. AND it is FREE! read more

This is a review for the TEMPORARY library spot which I, surprisingly, really like! Natural lighting, not crowded, quiet, outlets available, and big tables. In my search for a good study spot this may be my top spot for now. Plenty of parking too. This place rivals Lake Forest College's Library for local north suburb libraries. This is a place that not many would think to hang out at. If you really don't have anything to do, bring a laptop, a pair of headphones, and get ready to chill out. Nobody has bothered me. The hours can be funky, but they are open till 9 during the weekdays, and on the weekend till 5. They are very friendly and can be very helpful. You name it, you can pretty much find it. There is something to satisfy many variaties of people. From movies (which are current, not old, new releases and popular movies they do stock), CDs, and books of all flavors, along with a wide variaty of magazines, all availible for free (if you live in a library district or have a library card within Illinois). You will find all sorts of popular music to listen to while you read a book you might find interesting. And you can also just throw on a movie and pop your headphones in and youre set for a good evening. Regardless, they have a beautiful fireplace that is good to gather 'round on a cold winter night, so try it out, see how you like it. I think you will enjoy it too. read more

I am very disappointed and concerned. I went to the library today with a group of young adults with special needs to play quiet board games. These adults try to get out into community spaces that should be supportive of them, such as the library--so I thought. A librarian came up to us and told us that we could not sit in the area we sat in, because it was reserved for children and they were expecting to be busy (there was virtually no one there). She did not offer an alternative space for us to occupy and was not particularly friendly about it. On our way out, I spoke with someone from another group of young adults with special needs who had come for the same reason. This librarian had said the same thing to them, except that they had to leave because they were in the "teenager" area. Excuse me if I am off-base, but aren't public libraries supposed to be for the public... meaning all of it. Clearly Deerfield's library has some problem with allowing their special needs population to use their space. Upon further inquiry, I was told that this was not the first time it has happened. Well it will certainly be the last for me. I plan on never returning to this library and encouraging other to do the same. If there is no space for this population, then you need to make one DEERFIELD PUBLIC LIBRARY. GET WITH IT!!! WAKE UP. read more

This place is awesome!! They have plenty of rooms to check out, programs for all ages of kids, computers, printers, iPads for the little kids & programs for adults too. Their selection is actually very very good for a smallish town & they have access to a fairly decent lending program. The people are great! read more

After a yearlong wait for the renovations to be completed, the overly verbose library board president made the large crowd wait even longer in the hot sun for an hour. The newly renovated Deerfield Library finally opened its doors shortly before 2 today. Even before entering, the first problem emerged - about half of the parking places on the north side of the library have been eliminated, and replaced with a book drop and larger handicapped spaces. The entryway is large and airy, with a new tile fireplace on the right, however most of the chairs are configured without a view of the fireplace. The current magazines are no longer adjacent to the fireplace seating area, and the area is too noisy to use as a reading area with all the traffic going by. The middle of the upper level is a series of chambers holding AV materials and periodicals, along with a teen cove. This area now has a chopped-up feel, unlike the two spacious rooms on either side of the former library's entrance. Finally at the east end of the upper level is the children's section, with the building's original high ceilings and lots of windows. The adult section, along with most of the book collection is in the basement, which is accessible by a new stairway in the entryway, and the old stairway. A meeting room, slightly larger than the previous one near the entry, is at the west end of the basement, devoid of any windows and has wall treatments that feel cheap. Following the architect's work in Glenview, The stacks clog up the middle of the basement while the windowless sides are a clutter of offices, study rooms and a variety of other cubicles. Some of the vestibules make little sense, five walls along the south side extend out about 6 feet, dividing up stacks and entrances to administrative offices without any clear purpose. Seating areas are few and far between and appear to have been placed wherever a few square feet were left over. Finally windows appear on the lower level in the "Quiet Room", and the view clearly reminds you that this is a basement - little sky is left in view while textured concrete and a long slope covered with some kind of textured soil stabilizing material dominates the view. Deerfield's collection still lags nearby libraries, and with virtually no new space created by the renovation, Deerfield will continue to offer less variety than the much larger surrounding libraries. Setting up all of the adult computers in a classroom type setting leaves the question, how will anybody be able to access online resources when a class is in session? 12 million dollars was spent replacing a cozy, comfortable library that needed a little updating with a modern, uninviting facility that adds little to the library experience, while taking away the best features of the old library. Deerfield would have been much better served with a small scale renovation of mechanical equipment, carpeting and furniture, similar to what Highland Park did last winter. read more

The Deerfield Library is a fantastic place that has many reasons for you to love it. The librarians that work there are the sweetest people you will ever meet. They are always ready to assist you or have a nice conversation. The library has just remodeled in the last couple years and it has some lively decorations and a great setup that makes me happy when compared to the old setup that had some problems. Over all it is just a great place to visit when you need a new book to read or studying for a big test. read more

We live in Deerfield and have gone to this library for many years. The new remodeled library will be opening soon, which I think has been sorely needed for many years. This is not a big library, nor is it fancy compared to other libraries like Northbrook. However, my kids love borrowing movies and video games here which has saved me a lot of money and time over the years. We go almost weekly to the library and during the school year we also borrow a lot of books (my kids have school reading requirements) to supplement their local school library. Staff is always friendly and it's a well run operation. read more

All looks and no manners. Don't bother going in there if you are not a card holder....there are only maybe 2 people in the entire place who will treat you with any amount of respect and you're likely not to find them. And if you have well behaved children silently reading and decide to stand 10 feet away to grab them books, well.... be prepared for a lesson in parenting as the librarians pounce to tell you that they can not be left unattended. Unattended?!? Excuse me, I can see every move they make and be at their side in a fraction of a second. Perhaps a better use of your time would be devising a new computer system in which I do not have to drag a four and six year old down to the adult section in the basement just to print out some math worksheets for them while our printer is down at home. Really? I can't just pop on to one of the seven unused computers in the children's section? This place is just the worst! read more
