We are very lucky to have a home mail delivery service in the UK - for the price of a stamp, they will deliver to any address in the UK, which I think is an important principle. Quite a few countries don't have this and you have to go and collect your mail from a PO Box somewhere. I think we do take this for granted in the UK and it's not til you have to go and collect your mail that it strikes you what a hassle that would be if you have to do it for every single bit of mail you received. However, this delivery office is trying to make it easier and have recently extended their opening hours. I was very pleased to be able to collect a parcel up to 8pm on a Wednesday. Bravo, Post Office. Who says public services are stuck in the mud and unable to change?

There are usually two clerks available and of course there is usually a substantial queue on a Monday or during weekday lunchtimes, but that's true of all Post offices isn't it? The Post Office itself is located in a newsagents, so it can feel quite cramped when you are queuing there. He then questioned whether I had confirmation that the package had been received. I handed him the card and also told him I had been to the parcelforce depot an hour earlier and they had directed me here. He then went to look for the parcel and couldn't find it. He then told me to call customer services. I told him I was at the depot an hour ago and it was only then that he offered to help. I'm still standing here and I still don't have my parcel... Story to be continued :/ They finally came through with the goods! Apparently this has never happened to him in all the years he's worked there! And I'm happy because I have my Halloween costume

I've got so fed up with the long queues at the main post office on Stoke Newington High Street, that it's great to have found an alternative option. There were still queues here at Christmas, but it's a busy time of year, so it's to be expected. Nonetheless, there were two counters open and they were far more efficient and faster working than the slowcoaches who work at the speed of snails at the main post office. So the queue went quickly and I managed to catch the last post at the post box outside. Hooray! A welcome discovery.
