Highline Lodge, Killington Room # 14 bedroom
    Dan S.

Had a great stay for 1 night last weekend. Very quant inn. Definitely nicer than some of the other access road lodging choices, not 5 star but a very solid 4... (of course thats my experience). Plenty of parking, very relaxing lobby area to relax, fire going and comfy chairs & a sofa to watch the fire and unwind. I stayed in room # 14, a small 1 bedroom suite. Would be fine for 3 people, 4 may be a little tight(ish). Dorm size refridge was a nice touch. No clock anywhere so be aware to keep your cell near the bed. Only 1 bathroom and its in the bedroom so if you're more than 2 you'll have foot traffic (just so you know), room decorated very nicely... great heat & cable tv choices. They have an outdoor hot swim spa, alot larger than a hot tub, smaller than an inground pool and about 4 to 4 1/2 feet deep... guessing its one where you swim against the current for excersize. Don't know as the current wasn't on and I was just relaxing with my cooler & thoughts in -18 degree cold. Their morning breakfast was a nice touch, no eggs/waffles but it was perfect for my needs. Fresh cut fruit, toast, assorted muffins and cereal choices along with coffee/tea and juices... I'd definitely stay here again!!!

How do we rate our experience? It was so great that after having lunch we decided to come back for…read moredinner. And to make sure this is at the top of my review. Part of our reason for a return visit was the outstanding service provided to us by Molly. We felt double spoiled by having her be our server for dinner. The setting was delightful. Both times we got a great table by the window with fabulous views of the harbor and Lake Champlain. The vibe is relaxed, warm, and charming. No frills. The focus is on the food and the view. The food was really good. For lunch we shared a lobster roll. Now I know that there is a lot of controversy on what makes an "authentic" lobster roll. My take on having them in just about every state from Maine to Florida and and few tasty ones in my inland location. This one tasted good to me - lots of lobster, not too much mayo, fresh soft bun and some nice romaine for some crunch. They made me a lovely Cranberry Mule mocktail to sip on during the meal. For dinner my husband had the Crab Cake and I had the Shrimp Scampi. Both were quite good and the fish tasted fresh. We finished off with a decadent Key Lime Pie. Next time we are in the Burlington area, this will definitely be worth a return visit.

I'll start by saying that the view was amazing. The food was probably just average at best, but…read moreservice was also very good.

The lifties are nice, but they're stuck managing equipment that should've been replaced years ago. Reddit skiers have been saying the same thing for years: "lifts constantly down," "painfully slow," and "not worth the ticket price." Many warn you'll spend more time waiting than skiing. Alta has zero incentive to invest with Killington right up the road doing everything better. Calling this a "ski resort" is generous. If you value your time or money, drive by and keep going.

Pico is a separate part of Killington Resort with a primarily local clientele and devoid of the road raging attitudes of some of the visitors. It has a genuinely New England vibe from the parking lot all the way to the top of the mountain. The parking lots have plenty of space. The main lodge has a New England functional vibe, a bit rough and that's how people like it. Once on the slopes, the trails tend to be very New England, with narrow trails, plenty of tight tree glades, and one high speed with the rest of the lifts being fixed quads. Sking Pico is a pleasure. It may not have the vertical of Killington, with just under 2,000 at Pico and 3,000 at Killington. But what it lacks in vertical it more than makes up in customer experience. Killington's ethos is "The Beast", loud, boisterous, gargantuan.... Pico is the exact opposite. Quiet, friendly, local, sedate. Ambassadors and Ski Patrol will assist you anywhere. The food at the cafeteria doesn't have a French name but it's wholesome, hearty, tasty. Loooooong ago, there was a move to connect Killington and Pico with cross trails to each. Massive local opposition and ecological issues put a kabash on the idea. As a result, Pico is next to Killington but it's another world in ski experience.

Mountain Green is a cut above these places as the condos and the public spaces may not be luxury, however MG is definitely not a dump. The place is clean and fairly well maintained. Also, all of the condos are on one electronic key system, like a hotel. There is also a front desk. This is useful as during our stay, our keys stopped working and we had to get them replaced. No big deal, we popped into the office and got new keys. The best part of Mountain Green, whole reason you go to Killington, is that it is about a 10 minute walk to the lifts.
