#ThankYouThursday…read more Seriously! Thank you to all the teachers who are dedicated to the educational endeavours of the students. Special thanks to 4th grade teachers Ms. DeSa and Mr. Manuel. We all know how difficult these past 8(?!) months have been but, these teachers show no sign of falter. EVERY.SINGLE.MORNING they are promptly online and actively engaging with students who have had to readjust to the new form of schooling. Some mornings when I am out walking, I even see their cars on campus. Knowing they probably have their own children to attend too and still manage the learning of multiple students is impressive and worth recognition! Even their communication with parents is consistent. Every time I have had to contact them, they respond promptly and in a timely manner. If something is going on at the school that requires parents' attention, they will send out a flyer or email with the details. Thank you, teachers! Your efforts don't go unnoticed!!

Over the past year, I have observed what I believe to be a significant decline in the school's…read moreleadership, culture, and overall educational environment. My family has become increasingly concerned about what appears to be unequal treatment of students. In our experience, children of faculty members seem to receive preferential treatment in certain areas, including participation in sports, access to elective opportunities, and disciplinary matters. Additionally, the school's Board of Trustees appears to include several faculty members whose children attend the school, raising concerns about potential conflicts of interest and the lack of independent oversight. Information regarding board membership is not readily available on the school's website, making it difficult for families to understand the school's governance structure. As tuition-paying families, we expect a system that is fair, transparent, and accountable to all students equally. When faculty members report to administrators, administrators report to a board that includes faculty members, and many decision-makers have children enrolled at the school, it raises legitimate concerns regarding checks and balances. We have also witnessed significant turnover among experienced teachers. Many highly qualified educators have left and have been replaced by individuals with limited or no formal teaching experience. In our opinion, this has negatively affected classroom management and student learning. There have been reports from students that, at times, they were discouraged from using the restroom or drinking water during class. Students have also received demerits for accidental incidents, such as knocking over a water bottle, with such accidents being treated as intentional disruptions. My own child has experienced disciplinary actions that I believe were unfair. On one occasion, I received an email stating that my child was removed from class because he was "smirking," resulting in lost instructional time and an inability to complete class assignments. On another occasion, he was required to handwrite a study guide that had originally been distributed while he was absent. I have also received several emails from school administration accusing my child of serious misconduct and stating that he showed no remorse for his actions. In at least one instance, after reviewing the school's surveillance footage, I found that the circumstances described to me were inconsistent with what was shown on the video. Every parent deserves confidence that their child will be treated fairly, that disciplinary decisions will be based on facts, and that school leadership will operate with transparency, professionalism, and accountability. Unfortunately, our experience has led us to question whether those standards are currently being met.

Today is the first day of school, so I thought it would be an appropriate day to review the school…read more My son attended this school last year, and I have just dropped him off for the beginning of his second year. He was nervous about new teachers and classmates (as all kids should be) but happy to go back. This is a big deal because he has never attended any school for two years in a row. We have managed to move every year of his school life (Thank you, Army!) so he was worried that he would not want to go back. I give the school 3 stars because it is just A-OK. The school honestly tries, just not quite hard enough. My biggest concern with the school is not the academics, but the lack of community. As a parent I do not feel particularly welcomed, and as a neighbor I feel absolutely shut out. The best way to improve the school would be to have better involvement with the neighborhoods around it. Open houses, movie nights, gatherings to show off the talents of the children. These things do happen, but are not readily advertised and are not open to the true public. The best way to build a better school is through parental involvement. Bring the parents in and everyone wins.

Which should be normal for school drop offs, but as you get closer you realize it's because the Staff allows people to park in the drop off lane and walk their kids to class!! Need I remind you it literally has one drop off lane cause they have their school buses in the other empty lane.. Which wouldn't be too bad if there wasn't a drop off line a mile along and I'm not exaggerating! And then you look around and they have like 5 public parking which are filled with the staff parking in them!! Majority I take that back most of their teachers are just normal people who walked in and applied who are NOT CERTIFIED teachers, and got the job!! Or they friend works their so that's how they got in!! And half of which are all on social media doing drugs for the world to see!!! They have zero staff presence when you walk on property!! From the time school started up to the Xmas break there have already been about 5 fundraisers. Ya, they got a new playground, that did take the first half of the school year to complete (half of it anyways) and sure the school looks in top shape condition, aside the fact that my sons class room a/c was broken for a month or more... As for the good things about this school, education and teachers. My sons teacher, Ms Pascual is Great! So patient, understanding, holds the classroom attention very Well and she is so kind and generous =) I have gone to this school the later part of my elementary years and I enjoyed it. The vice principal and counselor are from Campbell (where I went to high school) and they are also great, so I am glad my son is in this school. To my information she calls boys puppydogs because of their energy, she has obvious favoritism, and she is very sexist towards males for no reason she has the mental compacity of a child and locks her students out her room when they slightly do something wrong. She doesn't even teach but makes her students read a book and watch a video to write Cornell notes, and when the wind is strong and the door blows open when someone opens it cause its stronger than a 300 ton truck coming at you, another teacher in specifics outs you in-front of the whole period shaming you and excluding you from activities because they never finish their work. One of the few male teachers at highlands makes their clubs students do improv. work last minute and gets mad at them when they do it last minute, another teacher had blatant favoritism, saying that an assignment was easy and shaming that they didn't finish it in a time period she thought was enough, she growls at the students time to time as-well. Never sending another child here again !!

We were attracted to this school for these reasons: *100% of the high school graduates received scholarships to colleges. Mostly for academics and swim. *Smaller classroom sizes - to give each child the attention they may need *Longer school hours - we're both working parents and don't need to deal with the stress of after school care * No homework- this is what the longer school days are for and because quality family time is so important after a long day at school/work *Performing arts - starts from kindergarten to work on their confidence, self esteem and public speaking skills *Dedicated and passionate teachers and staff- positive teachers makes for positive early imprinting *Amazing swim program and it just goes on and on! All three of our children are thriving academically and socially. They are all very active on the competitive swim team, hula, ballet, martial arts and voice lessons, all offered at school! I grew up attending a school with about 25-30 students in a classroom so I know what it's like, and I didn't like it. The smaller class sizes is the perfect fit for what we're looking for. A more customizable education tailored for each child's potential. Seeing how much talent has been produced from this small school makes me hold ARA up on a pedestal. We want to give our kids the best opportunity and ARA offers all we can ask for. If you are considering this school for your child, I recommend giving them a call. We're so happy we did!
