While it's a beautiful looking facility we had numerous issues. First, there were multiple instances where our father fell and was left lying on the ground for several hours. We had a camera in our room so we could see the time he was left there. Even though the staff said they would do hourly checks after the first incident we kept having this issue come up. We moved to having a caregiver at night, but found that we needed someone there 24/7 due to the lack of care (at one point he lost part of his finger when it got caught in a door). We weren't the only ones with additional staff. We also found ourselves having to take our dad to the hospital for random medical issues and having to actively manage his day to day care - this despite the fact that they have caregivers, nursing and doctors on staff. Finally, the costs became extremely expensive. Not only were we paying more out of pocket for the additional care, but there was no cap on what they can charge. We heard some people ended up being charged thousands of dollars extra a month because their points kept going up (they have a point system which is the basis of how they charge). Ultimately we felt our father was neither safe nor happy, and all this while our costs kept going up. It was extremely difficult to move him as anyone can imagine, but it is night and day with our new set up. The new facility really understands how to manage their residents, works as a cohesive unit with the family, the doctor, their nurses and staff to give him truly quality care. We are now visiting family members as opposed to active managers of our dad's care and we have never had to take him to the ER/hospital. Finally, we pay the same monthly rate no matter what happens for the duration.

There don't seem to be standards, quality control or care in the kitchen. This is very concerning because they are serving the elderly, a vulnerable population. When we returned to lease the apartment we were told everything Shelle told us we misunderstood. The new manager Susie said Shelle would not have said what we were told (I think she called us liars). She took ME to see the apartment that isn't the one mom is renting but exactly the same amenities different building. OK. So I confirmed to not have miscommunication again. Tub/tubs with wall in feature, yes. Fireplace yes. I told Susie that Shelle said one tub woulkd have cutout, Susie said NO both bathrooms do. Perfect. Dropped off money, and secured apartment. Shelle approved move in on the 7th of February. I asked if we could extend it further because mom is stuck in current lease until March 26th. I was told NO, but I will get approval for the 10th. Best she can do. Than office calls mom Renee to tell her she has to come sign lease for the 1st of Febraury, Shelle didn't approve the 10th move in. Again, we MISUNDERSTOOD. (We are liars again). Than mom goes over paperwork with Renee and the discount is not applied. I called spent 30 minutes with the other lady who saud the 10th was lease signing, and 509 off 1st month rent. So I guess we aren't liars? So mom signs lease yesterday gets keys, and guess what.... NO fireplace, NO tub cutouts at ALL. Now Susie says she can pay 500-600 for cutouts if she wants them. Um no! Susie also said she didn't know 2 bedrooms didn't come with fireplaces thats new to her? Really. Than why do you call us liars and misrepresent what you are leasing? Now what was supposed to be a good move is awful. We are waiting to see what else we lied about or misunderstood.

Last May, my mother in law moved into the independent living at the Wellington. There was still some of the same staff from 9 years ago. (That says a lot in itself). Everyone welcomed her and made sure she was included in activities. She received encouragement and support that helped her with the transition of downsizing and being recently widowed. She adapted quickly and was extremely happy to have found friends. After only being there for 4 months she became ill and hospitalized, during that time the staff at the Wellington continued to care for her cat. My mother in law was admitted into hospice and the Director of the Wellington made sure that her final days were at her home with familiar surroundings. He guaranteed an hourly well check on her and making sure they would turn her every 2 hrs. We are glad she didn't suffer long and that she was comfortable in her last days. The Director & staff checked with us regularly to offer help and support during her last days, they even found her cat a home. I would have given a 5 star rating except that the facility needs some updating, but floor plans and the windows make up for that. Can't say enough good things about both independent and assisted living at the Wellington!

The facilities are great. The residents rooms and bathrooms are private and spacious with high quality buildouts. The food is good. I've noticed generally high quality, tasty food getting served. The staff means well. I don't doubt the sincerity of the staff wanting to help improve the quality of life of the residents whether that mean providing activities in the common areas, get them medical care when needed, speak to them encouragingly when they need to be re-guided. The issues I ran into require a little bit of context. My father is averse to getting help on showers. The PVN nurse suggested we look into getting some meds to help on shower days and get some external extra help to provide showers for him. While I wasn't happy to pay for extra help, given the high cost of PVN I thought the request was presented in a professional manner. The issues come in with a lack of professional approach to medical management and follow-up. I consider these issues significant enough to ding PVN down to 2 stars. My father's doctor agreed that some medicines could help make shower days a little easier and that it was important for him to stay clean on a regular basis. The problem is that now, despite this being the PVN staff's idea, they are unable to get the medicines to my dad on the morning's of the shower days. They have missed this 3 out of the last 4 shower days, which then makes the task of giving showers a monumental task. It would seem that this would be easy to address given that they claim to give him his other medicines, but the one medicine that was introduced - effectively at their request - is something they seem unable or unwilling to give him. I have called numerous times and can get an answer about 50% of the time. I have sent 4 emails on this topic to the Head Nurse & her assistant and have a 0% response rate thus far. In my mind this boils down to poor leadership. I have no way of communicating with the senior leaders of PVN to get these issues addressed. The nurses ignore my emails, and worse, deny my father the access to medicines that will improve his and his fellow residents quality of life. it is my belief that PVN needs to fundamentally transform the culture and leadership of their organization. They are currently falling far short of their mission.
