## Review for Highland Canine Training - Carlos **Rating: ** If you have a challenging dog that you want to love more than anything but simply don't know what to do, I cannot recommend **Carlos** and the team at Highland Canine strongly enough. We adopted our dog, Reggie, just before Christmas. We've rescued many dogs over the years--including very tough cases--but we had never encountered a dog as aggressive as Reggie. Within two weeks, he had drawn blood multiple times. He struggled with severe resource guarding and an inability to settle. Despite trying in-home training, we weren't seeing any promise. Reggie was truly on his last stop when we reached out to Highland Canine for intensive residential therapy. While we want to thank **Jason, Erin, and Magda** for their incredible support, **Carlos** served as Reggie's primary trainer during his eight-week stay. Throughout the process, the communication was fantastic, and Carlos even provided a detailed video for us to reference so we could continue the progress at home. When Reggie finally came back to us, we realized immediately that we had brought home a different dog. It wasn't just that the biting had stopped; he had become a fun-loving, affectionate companion. He now handles stress with ease, is a pleasure on walks, and has even become best friends with our cat. Most people would have given up on Reggie, but because of the expertise and dedication shown by Carlos and the Highland team, he has finally found his forever home. There hasn't been a day since he's been back that I haven't thought about the profound difference Carlos made in all of our lives. We are forever grateful. Carlos was absolutely amazing with our dog Aspen. He came back after three weeks of training a completely different dog. He is a year old, male alpha English Doodle who is athletic, fast and strong. He used to pull so bad on the leash that only my husband could walk him. Carlos trained Aspen to leash walk, sit, stay in a place . . . all in three weeks. I would just like to say Dog training is an art.. Emma Caraballo in Ohio is a true artist. I signed up for group classes with Emma in North Royalton, Ohio and I have to say it was the best thing I ever did. Emma is Knowledgeable, skilled in her craft and KNOWS dogs and their temperments. I have a 1 year old Weimaraner and they are the best, but they are smart, very strong and stubborn. Emma was able to help me with the issues I was having with Ash and recommend things that actually worked. I would recommend Emma for group or individual training. She is compassionate -- and determined to help you succeed with your dog. I will be signing up for the next level class as soon as she offers it. Our family reluctantly sent our 1 year old Australian Shepherd to Matt at Highlands for 6 very long weeks, due to what our Vet determined was aggression. Long story. Result, Matt is a miracle worker, a dog whisperer; and just awesome at his job. I can not thank he and Anna enough for the way they turned Jaxx into such an integrated part of our family, instead of something we were constantly trying to figure out how to deal with. We have our lives back and have learned so much from Matt. he truly cares to get it right, not just the simple things, but the things that make life with dogs such a joy on a daily basis. I attended Highland's six month, school for dog trainers this last year and I don't regret a single moment of it. I have been training for almost 7 years and I was still able to learn so many new things that I never knew, or thought that I knew well. I'm a firm believer in the saying "the day you stop learning is the day you die" and I'm proud to say that I learned a lot here. The staff was professional and personable and were always open and willing to teach you more or work with you, even after hours or on weekends. Do Not waste your money. I attended the school in January, 2022 only to withdraw after 4 weeks because it was unprofessional, unstructured and woefully unprepared for Covid. School was shutdown for multiple days on two separate occasions because of student and staff omicron outbreaks. Classroom lectures are conducted by instructors without education degrees who rely on power point slides and outdated videos to fill the state mandated classroom time for community colleges. The training facility is a few muddy acres of farmland without an indoor training area. Much of the time you spend working with a dog is independent and unstructured, making it frustrating for the novice student. During my 4 weeks of class the only dog training I was taught was lure and bait. You will learn more from reading The Dog's Mind than attending this institute. Do Not waste your money. read more

Scout and her family had a great experience with Highland Canine in NC! Our daughter trained her pup 9 years ago, and after trying to find a trainer we felt good about, we decided to make the call. It was an easy decision. In fact, we drove from Sarasota to Charlotte after our intro phone call with Kress, her trainer. We knew in an instant - he had us all pegged! At 6yo, Scout was overweight and aggressive. She was a car chaser, bike chaser, and kid chaser among many other bad behaviors. She was scared of so many things!! After her training, she is so much more manageable, confident, so much happier, and in much better physical shape - she lost all the excess nightly chewy weight! She walks fab on a leash with confidence, knows basic commands, climbs her favorite tree daily, fun things to do together. Playing ball is fun again. If only I had a one-wheel, Sully her bestie, Pete the Pony, and Mattress for daily refresher courses! And don't forget the hay rolls!! Haha! Thank you Kress, it was worth every penny. And all my "next dogs" will meet Kress first to build their confidence and happiness. Besides retraining Scout, check out all the good stuff they do within their community and with the misfit pups! My girlfriend and I decided a while ago that we would send our White GSD Koda to training. However, it took us a while to decide where. We landed in highland canine after much research online. From the day I called to make an appointment, Kress, Koda's trainer was phenomenal. We were skeptical at first, the price being a factor as well as Koda being trained on an E-collar. Kress educated us and helped us understand the training process. We went with Highland's "Boot Camp" training course. Six weeks, on and off leash training. Koda is one, he is a giant puppy, yet stubborn and listened on his terms. We got him back on Sunday after six long weeks and I cannot believe it is the same dog. He listens, he is calm and he understands his commands. Kress did a great job with him, he came home happy, healthy and obedient! Upon pickup Kress had a video ready showing his commands, how he responds, and a little e-collar tutorial. Then he did a one on one training with my girlfriend and I. I can't say anything negative about our experience with Highland Canine nor Kress. I would recommend this facility to any friend or family member 100 out of 100 times! I cannot express enough just how much I love Highland Canine Training, LLC. I attended the School for Dog Trainers 18 week service dog trainer course. I received the best and most thorough instruction in a family like environment. All the staff were brilliant and helpful. They were always there to answer questions; day, night, weekday, weekend, and even after I graduated. I hope to return one day to finish out the master dog trainer course and get certified as a master dog trainer! The facility was large, clean, orderly, and very functional. With attention to detail given to give the dogs the best care, socialization, and training possible. So much work, love, and dedication is put into the dogs trained there. We brought our two huskies to Highland Canine Training in hopes of just being able to walk then while actually enjoying it. What we received was much more than that. Kress was so great to work with and we couldn't recommend him more. We also loved receiving pictures and videos during their time at training. When we picked them up Kress worked with us patiently to ensure we understood how to continue training at home and assured us he was always available to help us in the future if needed. Highland Canine has a great school for dog trainers website and a beautiful facility which gave me the idea that I was going to learn everything to learn about dogs. Unfortunately that was not the case. I was in the first class to earn the Master Canine Training certification, which was a huge accomplishment for me until I was interning and saw how much we really didn't do when the next class started. My class had 3 students and the next one had 13 students. After paying out over $20,000 to attend the school you would think we would do everything listed in the curriculum , but these are the things we never covered. Behavior clinic, dog first aide, dog tricks and therapy dogs, training signal dogs, mobility dog tasks (turning off and on the lights, open the refrigerator, opening cabinets,) training dogs for seizure, traumatic brain injury, PTSD, tactical building searches, swat k9 concepts, training wilderness search and rescue dogs, training the human remains dog, and training the disaster search dog. Most of the other things listed on their curriculum we either covered in the classroom lecture or the lab hours and only a few was where we did both as advertised. As stated in the explanation of the Master Trainer Program it falsely says that we would "learn from some of the top trainers in the industry." We only learned from the owners. It also states that we would be given "an enormous amount of valuable hands-on experience that is required to be successful in the dog training industry." Which was partially true. Our class seemed to only focus on detection, bite-work, trailing and obedience. The school catalog stated under the curriculum development says that the curriculum is regularly reviewed and updated, which isn't true. read more

I was a student at Highland and can honestly say that I had a wonderful time there and learned tons. Nothing that this gentlemen claims is factual. What speaks louder is my positive experience, my happily trained dog, and the fact that with their support I have now proudly just opened my own dog service business in the Boston area. I have personally seen Jason and Erin as wonderful people who have brought much happiness to both humans and canines... (and cats too! hehe) Definitely recommend this school for trainers, dogs and dog owners. read more

We were referred to Highland Canine Training to help us train our golden retriever. His main behavioral issues were always pulling on walks and controlling his emotions when meeting others. We were given solid tips by Rachelle and now clearly understand how to change our dog's behavior. I tried to schedule a tour with this organization as I was only flying in for a short time. Dawn was very unaccommodating and inflexible and refused to even show us around during the dates we were in the state. I'm not sure if she was the owner or just the secretary, but she changed our minds about wanting to attend the school. Customer Service is important. read more
